Adding a seal should be less if the old engine is in good shape related to cylinder wear, compression, crank bushing and etc.. I still feel the electronic kit should have solved your problem w/o an RPM problem. Other points: 1. If the installer was well at the time, did he get all installed/adjusted properly and you had good RPM? 2. Have you noticed oil on the points in the past? Have you had any kick-back or sheared flywheel keys? 3. I need help! Are the points still used as a switch/signal with the electronics (I did my last about 1990)? The last kit at this site http://www.jackssmallengines.com/ignition_b.cfm verifies the points and condenser serves no purpose with the electronic ignition (as I thought I remembered). Therefore, I would make sure the key-way is not damages (flywheel tight to specs) and the air gap is .010 (guessing w/o checking or an index card thickness from the flywheel. 4. There could be a fuel restriction or fuel adjustment issue if the engine had RPM initially. 5. Please let us know how the engine ran initially after the electronics was added. They make them in both natural gas and propane units. Just order the correct one. And they are for gas only, not any other fuel.

The only accurate method is to compare your fuel costs per Btu and do the conversions yourself. If you google btu I believe you'll learn all you need to do the calculations. You'll find how many Btu are in a cubic foot of gas, a gallon of propane, a gallon of fuel oil or kerosene, pound of wood pellets, etc. Many utility companies actually charge gas customers by the "therm" which is defined as 100,000 btu quantity. Here in the northeast they change the heat content of the natural gas and bill you accordingly by simply charging by the therm -- this lets them sell off the "hotter" parts of the gas to use in propane generation and make more money ..... Off the top of my head, I recall 3.41 Btu in a Kilowatt (a 1500 watt heater puts out around 5000 Btu -- that's how I remember it). Once you know your typical btu consumption you can then compare alternate fuel sources. Of course, in doing your comparisons you also have to adjust for the efficiencies of the various heating appliances. Electric heat isn't vented to the outside so, practically speaking, it has a 100% efficiency (all the heat it generates stays in your house).

I LOVE my gel fireplace, I bought it from QVC a few weeks ago, if you go to their site and type in Gel Fireplaces, quite a few styles will come up. Mine came with two gel cans. When lit, it does send out some heat (if needed, which I don't), I bought it for the very realisic look of a real fireplace, the gel, is the kind that puts out a "cackle" sound just like it would sound with real wood burning. I also do not notice any odor from the gel burning. I already had 2 tall bookcases that I put next to it to flank the fireplace, I am working towards a English country style libary den, so far it is looking pretty good. It was fairly easy to put together, and it came well wrapped with no damage, which is something that always concerns me when ordering on line, but even if it arrived damaged QVC is excellent about returning things. I think you will be very pleased with the gel fireplace.
