Wood floor--What do I do where the patterned entry meets planks?

Thanks in advance.

I am installing WFI quartersawn white oak 3" planks that come in 12", 36" and 84" lengths. I have this idea that I would like to cherry pick out the 12" pieces and do a herringbone pattern in my entry. My question is how to treat where the herringbone area meets the rest of the floor that will just be laid down in regular planks? In other words, there will be two cut edges side by side with no tongue and grove insert. I would rather not use a t molding for cosmetic reasons, but will if I have to. If my guys just glues down the plank next to the herringbone and it is not installed with tongue in grove conncection, is this going to give me problems down the road?

Many thanks!
