Best credit card for us

We would like a reliable credit card that pays us the most on our purchases- especially gas and groceries. We always pay our card off monthly and we both (we're married) have excellent credit. We would like a card that issues the highest % in redemtion points- Thanks, Paull

Clark Howard mentions a website that has you put in your typical expenses and then tells you the type of card that would give you the best profit. Sorry don't remember the site--ANYONE? I did ours and the card we have came up as a third choice...we love our Capital One card and get a lot back per year but know there may be better ones out there.

I googled "best credit cards"and got Bankrate.com, which is a reputable website.

Thank you for all the great inputs. Folks on the GW are the best! DH reminded me the experience I had with the Discover card. Years ago I had one. The last transaction before I terminated the card was I made a $10K purchase, as always paid in full for that billing cycle. I received financial charge of $250 the following month recorded as I had only made payment for $1K. It turned out the mistake was caused by Discover Card's clerical error, but I was the one had to run between my bank and Discover Card to provide payment proof. It took a couple of months to clear the issue. Discover Card customer service was very rude during the entire incidence. Discover card may have changed their business practice after all these years. I will look into Costco Amex since I already have a VISA card. For the Costco Amex cardholders, do you eve have problems with their service? As a side note, my Visa card is issued by Nordstorm. Their customer service is impacable. They give rebate in Nordstom notes, I will definately keep the card. Considering a new card is that I am looking for cash rebate option other than store specific rebate.

So the customer is actually paying that extra percentage, not the merchant. But ... the customer has to make more money in order to cover the cost of that extra percentage ... so the customer's employer is actually paying that extra percentage. But ... the employer will have to make more money in order to pay his employee more, so the employer will have to charge more for his company's services. And so on and so on. :) In other words, who is ultimately paying is irrelevant. The fact is, you pay the same at the store whether you are using cash, credit with no cash back, or credit with cash back. So the individual is better off using a card that has the max cash back. The person who pays cash is on the losing end of the deal. And all of this is irrelevant to the original question. :) destruct05, I think you've probably already found the best options. Go for the one that you feel best with.

Sears blue credit card, being replaced by a master card?

I had a Sears card many years ago, didn't use it. A year ago last Fall, I bought a freezer and to get an additional discount + sale price, signed up for and put the freezer on a new card that day (they said the old card no longer valid). I was surprised to find myself with another MasterCard, not a Sears card. Paid the bill in full when it arrived, and just before the holidays a few weeks ago I called and asked them to cancel the card, I kept getting mailings, offers, and there was very little chance I would ever use the card. I have one for business, one household, and one I keep in my desk for online orders, booking reservations, more than enough. They argued slightly, then agreed to cancel the card for me.

Using credit card to extend warranty on appliance?

GE Microwave Oven purchased with TDAmeritrade credit card for the extended warranty. Microwave stopped heating food/liquids after 1.75 years. Claimed since Warranty only covered 1 year. Warranty Manager denied claim stating that installing a microwave constitutes it becoming part of real estate which isnt covered. After sending in a reconsideration request, Warranty Manager never responded to our weekly calls/requests for update. Dont count on getting reimbursed. It's a BIG time gimmick, marketing scheme to entice you to use one credit card over another. After weekly calls to Warranty Manager, and after a month, they denied our request since it's "installed." It was a hellish month to go without the microwave and only to add to our frustration was the lack of customer service.

If you are able to Join Navy Fed C.U they have a cash rewards card that gives you 1% cash back on the first $1000, and 1.5% after that.

You can also get a paypal debit card. We get 1.5% cash back on all our purchase when we use it as a credit card. I like it because I don't have a credit card bill.

Are you near a Costco? I realize you are only 2 people (in your family), but honestly, I shop mainly costco for food and gas, and the rewards on the AmEx are Excellent (cash back--from Costco; and again from AmEx). Not to mention the savings on gas price alone because of their ability to bulk buy it (in my area, averages 15-24 cents lower per gallon than other local gas stations; even Safeway).

Right now we have the Blue Cash preferred card from American Express which pays us 6% at supermarkets 3% at gas stations and department stores and 1% everywhere else. Our 1st year was free but soon we will have to pay 75$ for membership. Just wondering if there was a better card. Thanks for all the replies. Paul

This site maybe help you find the right card for you.
I just used it to decide on the Chase Sapphire because it has no FTF, I'm living outside the USA now and would pay enormous fees for foreign transactions.
