Our cat is clawing the corners of the furniture....
Comments (37)Justgaotabme, FYI and I quote below from the above article. It's too late for your cats, but maybe someone else will educate themselves before making the decision to declaw AKA elective surgery to cut off their toes. Why are you so offended? You did what you thought was right for your cats. My statement was not addressed to you specifically. "the last bone of your cat's claw has to be removed. Declawing is actually an amputation of the last joint of your cat's "toes". When you envision that, it becomes clear why declawing is not a humane act. It is a painful surgery, with a painful recovery period. And remember that during the time of recuperation from the surgery your cat would still have to use its feet to walk, jump, and scratch in its litter box regardless of the pain it is experiencing. Wheelchairs and bedpans are not an option for a cat."...See MoreCat people, I need your help, please.
Comments (25)outright fighting is not the only way they show hostility Funny you should say that, Breenthumb. I came downstairs this morning and discovered that one of the cats had peed on top of an antique table during the night. I have a tendency to blame Annie, but this time she was locked up, and so was Rocky. Pogo and Annie were so skittish this morning. Pogo usually spends some time in my bedroom after I get up, but he didn't stay this time. Peachy was afraid to come downstairs. They were nervous, and I was nervous. I played with Rocky a lot before Pogo and Peachy joined us downstairs, hoping to discharge some of his energy. He has an abundance of it. Then a few minutes ago Peachy (much smaller than Rocky) hissed at him, and he took a step toward her. That was all it took to make me want to put an end to this situation, at least for now. So I put Rocky outside. I know he'll want to come in. I have loved seeing him enjoying the comforts of home. But we'll try this for awhile, and continue to give the situation some thought. At least in the warm weather Rocky will have lots of human companionship outdoors, as we're a family of gardeners. I cancelled the vet appointment. Annie has never been easy to handle, and when I showed up she hid under the bed. The last thing I want is to risk another cat bite. I changed the dressing this morning, and my hand and wrist are swollen, red, and hot. I hope the Augmentin takes care of the infection. My thanks again to all....See MoreWhat quartzite works best with creamy White Dove cabinets? Please help
Comments (49)Yeah, same here, like it's a dolomite or marble. You get so tired of looking, you're like "I don't care any more!!" lol. Actually, it's not funny. It's a true investment that gets used daily...so it DOES need to hold up and endure. I too am a messy cook and am a person that doesn't mind if something sits on the countertop for a few hours esp when you're having a party -- what's on my countertop is my least concern!...See Morefabrics that are most cat claw resistant
Comments (48)I have two active cats who have destroyed every piece of upholstered furniture in the house--including the wood parts. My next attempt will be performance velvet on a swivel armchair draped on the seat and back, double-sided cat tape on the arms initially. Perhaps if the chair moves, it won't be so attractive--this has worked with my office chair. It's furry, but not destroyed. Bottom line, I love them more than I mourn my pristine furniture--but it is a problem. The kind of cat tape you can buy at pet stores is VERY sticky on the back, though it might not stick as well on fabric. I made the mistake of putting it directly on my kitchen counters, and there is still glue in places. Next time, vinyl placemats. But the cats have never once returned to the counters. And I agree, declawing is amputation. Cats walk on their toes. (One consideration with microsuede--it may not snag, but the claws can leave tiny holes in the fabric. The other down side to it and to velvet is that both are fur magnets, but of course that's more controllable.)...See Moreivanhv_2009
