Hooker Bedroom Furniture or the like

I am in the market for bedroom furniture, and really like the Albany Park line from hooker, solid construction and decent price. http://www.hookerfurniture.com/photos/large/HF54590220RS_11_03.jpg

My question for you guys:

DO you know of any other suites that have a similar look for a similar price? around 5k for king bed, 2 night stands, long dresser and tall dresser with mirror?

Look at the Mount Vernon collection from Durham. Solid wood, made in Canada, good upper medium quality. Hooker is veneer and particle board, made in China.

I echo the Durham suggestion. I recently ordered the same pieces you're talking about (except for the tall dresser) from Durham's Savile Row collection for about $3000 (plus $300 shipping) from lexfurniture.com and am very happy with them.

I think the Savile Row collection, in person more so than on the Durham website, looks like the Hooker collection you linked.

Find a Durham retailer in your area and compare.

Really nice pics lindybarts. I'm still thinking of the Mcclintock bedroom furniture because it goes with several pieces she has already. I've heard different things depending on the sales person you talk with. I asked one "What's a good "high-end" children's bedroom mfr. She replied there's really NO "high-end" when it comes to youth furniture. I might as well get adult furniture if I truly wanted pieces to last. Then a diff . salesperson told me that Jessica MCClintock was the high end of Lea collections. I asked another salesperson at a diff. store I was choosing between a set from Young America(Stanley) and McClintock (Lea) which was better quality. He said when it comes to the "bed" its about the same between the two. McClintock is priced much more than Young America so I just figured it was better. Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?

An old client of mine did just that...her floors are wide honey pine planks, and we did a mostly blue and white scheme with creamy yellow-ivory walls, and I had all her simple mismatched wooden furniture spray-painted (my painter has a booth and a commercial spray apparatus) semi-gloss black. Her things included a simple four-poster bed, two different night stands, a dresser, and a blanket chest, and we did everything except the blanket chest, which we had painted a worn barn red-brown. We replaced the hardware with aged (not "antiqued") brass, and added an old dark natural wicker rocking chair and a big old brass kindling bucket for magazines. I'm sorry I don't have photos to share, because it looks great (if I do say so!) I would caution against flat black. It looks dull, and because the finish is a bit "toothy," it grabs and holds not only the dust, but also the lint and fibers from everything you use to dust it with. I also don't usually like to use lacquer unless you are sure you will never chip it, or get anything like oil or alcohol on it. Too fragile for simple living.

I LOVE your room. The colors make my heart happy. Mine's a collection of stuff. We had, a long time ago, an entire set of waterbed stuff. I was certainly ready for a change. I bought the headboard and shelf after my mom died. It was a last present from her kinda thing...the pieces came from a craft fair. I drooled over them for afew months before I finally brought them home. The chair is my 'run away from home' chair. As a homeschool mom sometimes I had to get away without living home. I have flowers and a birdfeeder out the window. There are no frou-frou window treatments. I'm not a frou-frou girl. Everything in the room has been collected over time. I couldn't bring myself to buy a matched set either. I needed personality.

Thank you so much both furnone and crouch for telling me about Durham since I need solid wood due to my allergies and their furniture looks very nice. Now I will try to find a dealer near me to compare with Stanley, Ethan Allen and Basset that all also have Antique White Furniture. It looks like Durham may be the only one that has no veneers and is all solid?

seems like a good CO, but I didn't find anything I liked as much as the hooker line...anyone else got some suggestions?@?

Hooker is a "pig in a poke" as my 93 year old Grandmother says...they are a low quality manufacturer masquerading as a high quality product. It pains me to think that someone would be willing to lay down 5k on this stuff. The finishes are horrible and the materials really stink. Can you tell that I am not a Hooker fan? It is actually Ashley in disguise.

I agree with Bellamy on Hooker, i wouldn't purchase something for that kind of money that will only go sourly bad in months. There are some good manufacturers out there that could pull high quality and solid hardwood. The problem you will have is getting High quality at a low price. For what I have seen solid wood manufacturers pride themselves of building stuff that will last and for that same reason the prices go up. I would try to go to

Have you looked at Kincaid or Cochrane? Cochrane offers a solid wood group that you can choose between maple or oak and also what stain color. You can also choose from several different pulls.

Are any of these beds actually solid wood. I find that very difficult to believe. I like this curved bed though, but i suspect its also venear, but who cares, it looks cool.
