Covering a Fireplace with Faux Rock

I have a 60's vintage fireplace in our basement that is covered in brick (entire wall and hearth). We saw in Lowes and Home Depot, faux stones made by Stone Craft. Can these be installed around the fireplace opening? Was curious about heat damage. I called the manufacturer, but there were not very helpful. The lady "thought" they could and said, oh, our fireplace in our showroom has it. Big deal. My wife want everything covered up (the entire wall plus the hearth). The manufacturer said they are concrete based with some sort of faux painted finish. They looked real and I could not tell they were fake.
