RE H&M sectional sofa (DCollie)
Comments (5)Kathie, No worries! I had the rules explained to me so I'm trying to adhere to them while at the same time helping out with the info. The "Town and Country" grouping is 140 items from H&M that are offered in specific frame configurations in specific leathers. Pricing is very aggressive in this promotion, so it pays to shop there first. The T&C pieces are the same ones in the regular catalog, and the likewise the hides come off the same group as the main sample swatches. This can get confusing, but I'll try to explain it as best I can. Within the T&C program, there will be a 'married cover' hide at the lowest price. This is a leather that is pre-sewn as a kit form, and on the shelf at H&M. When an order comes in for this category, they pull the kit, and cover the frame with it. When you do the married cover items, there are no pre-approval swatches. In the past, "married cover" almost always meant it was sewn in China, but H&M no longer does that and their kits are sewn in North Carolina. At the next level of T&C, you typically can choose another leather series (such as any Document colorway) for more than the Married Cover Price, but for less than working out of the main price book. Heres an example of how pricing would look for an Austin Sofa (they are not the real prices, I'm just making these up since I'm typing from home). Austin Sofa in Married Cover, choose from Document Chestnut, Cavilier Oxblood or Cavalier Dark Blue. $ 2,299 (these are Grade II hides in kit form) Austin Sofa in Any other Document colorway $ 2,699. Austin Sofa in Any other Cavalier colorway $ 2,899. Austin Sofa in any Grade II leather from the main book $ 3,299. So, as you can see, there are several price steps you can choose for the same frame. It really all depends on if you're shopping budget or shopping a specific hide or 'look'. By far, most people will buy in a T&C promo if the piece they like is offered in it, and many will give up the leather selection they really like to save some money by buying into the program. There are thousands of options with Hancock and Moore. I suspect your feeling limited in selection is more a function of your local dealer not offering (or not knowing!) all the various price structures and program items. Its confusing and as a dealer if you're not real careful you can wind up mis-quoting the line on pricing. Thats why many dealers only offer a few pieces at specific prices. The Town and Country program is ongoing, and changes with each April and October High Point Market. Some items come in and others go out, and there are price increases that come into the line as well. One day, when I have some time, I'll make a list of all the Town and Country items and the leathers they come in. Let me know if you have any more questions! Comments (4)Probably the best route to take in your circumstance is for your husband to sit in as many Hancock and Moore recliners as possible. My husband is also 5'9" tall, trim build, and he chose the Miller Bustle Back recliner, which he finds very comfortable. Arm width was one of the deciding factors. I got the Austin tilt-back chair and ottoman, which my husband enjoys as well. Recently on this board, a poster listed his two favorite H&M chairs for comfort: The Miller Bustle Back and the Austin Tilt Back. Our chairs are covered in Class III protected leather in Antelope Saddle, which is a rich brown/burgundy color. We had a swatch from H&M for dye lot approval. There are many colors available for order in each price point....See Moreh&m donovan sofa/kipling leather
Comments (8)Olive, I've never seen a leather upholstery piece that wears through, or a waxed hide that loses its finish. I asked my sales reps about that as well and they know of no instance where a wax finish deteriorated. Over time leather is more likely to become sun-faded, that's the # 1 cause of replacement. They last 4x longer than fabrics, so in say.... 20 years of use the color is gone just from the sunlight. Keep direct light off the piece and that's the key to most of it. The other is that you simply MUST clean the hides once in a while. Most people never do, but if you spend 10 minutes 2x a year on doing that, it will stay supple and the tanning processes won't be compromised. Failure to clean dirt and oils off of leather is the other major reason for failure of the piece. H&M recommends only mild soap and water for their hides, other makes recommend the Leathermaster kits. Either way, if pays in the long run to keep them clean. As for seeing it in person, made up the way you want it to be made up, a reasonable request is to order the sofa with the caveat that if you don't like it when it arrives, you can order something else (replacement order, not a refund). Better stores will generally allow you to do this. I'm sure when it arrives you'll be pleased with it, but if not you have the option to make a change. Duane Collie...See MoreMy3dogs ? Comments (3)Hi! It's not me who has the Tuxedo sofa. Mine is the Kent Chesterfield and I got it from Craigslist. This is the best pic I have of it, taken just after the eBay coffee table arrived. The two chairs that I have in there were bought for a sofa that is now in my basement; (shown in the second pic below) one is leather and the other is a Dan Carithers by Sherrill. What ties everything together IMO in the room is the rug, since the H&M sofa was an unplanned purchase that I just HAD to have. This is embarrassing, but the best pic I have of the leather chair. The pic will be 5 years old this Thursday! The other chair is impossible to photograph and have the colors come through but it's a tiny woven grayish blue and tan check which is perfect with the lighter blues in the rug. Many changes have been made since this pic was taken. Oops - just found this attempt of trying to capture the chair colors correctly. It didn't happen....See Moresnowcat
