For me it would be an either-or proposition - either coffee table or sofa table, and I much prefer the coffee table. It's got just enough curve to be a nice change from all the hard angles in the room, but not so curvy that your eye goes "HUH??" if you know what I mean. I also like the addition of another material, the iron. The sofa table just doesn't do a whole lot for me. I also wonder if you really need a sofa table at all. If this were my room I would not want to be interrupting/distracting the eye as it slipped past the couch to focus on the dramatic fireplace and wall of built-ins, and the high contrast of the light sofa table and the dark couch would definitely stop the eye's movement. Also, because of the contents of those built-ins there is a lot of "stuff" in the room already, and I think a sofa table would just be another surface upon which to accumulate more "stuff" and thus contribute to a cluttery appearance to the room. One thing that just occurred to me, though... have you mapped out the size of the coffee table on the floor? I've got a little tiny twitch that a round table that works proportion-wise with the chaise side of the sectional might possibly be too small for the couch side, if that makes any sense - I would almost rather see an oval table rather than a round. Is it going to be easily returnable? If not, grab a blanket and lay it down on the floor, folding in the corners and edges to make a rough circle of the appropriate size. I'm glad you said you're planning on a colorful area rug, because that was the very first thing that came to my mind, that the room needed a big dose of color! The coffee table will be smashing sitting on a colorful rug; my mental picture is of a Navajo rug or a similar strong, not-too-busy geometric pattern, since you have lots of other strong geometric shapes with the very square couch, enormous windows, big squared-off fireplace and built-ins, with plenty of olive and deep red. Oh, and if I may be so very rude ;-) there's sort of an OD of olive-colored things on the shelves immediately to the left of the fireplace and the Buddha on the bottom shelf gets a little lost. Poor Buddha! I think maybe just moving that squat red pot from the top right down next to the olive Buddha instead of that little wooden box (?) would pull the eye down there and balance out the brightly-colored things on the right side of the fireplace. But that was unsolicited, so feel free to tell me to go soak my head. :-)

I think that the pair are too small individually to work as coffee tables in front of that sofa. I also think that if you want two as coffee tables, you need to have two that are exactly the same. I love those little tables though, maybe you have another place to use one?

I'd go with shades of beige that blend together the wall, carpet, and sofa colours. Let the room come to life with your beautiful green plants and hits of black in frames, lamps, etc. Look how beautiful your lioness looks against her leafy green background. That's a perfect palette to emulate I think :)

It looks like you have children in the space, so please, no glass. And the best coffee table choice with children would be an ottoman style.
