need advice about new dawn...
Comments (12)New Dawn, if it is New Dawn, should repeat. I have rooted many for my neighbors. However, they do like a steady diet and should they revert to Dr. Van Fleet, which many have done that I have rooted and mine has also done, it will only bloom once but might in some strange conditions of excess rain, change in temperatures, a little cool spell in summer, or warmer in fall, repeat bloom. I think there was a long conversation on Antique Rose forum about New Dawn once and the consensus was that if you rooted a piece of it (how are you to know) that has reverted to Dr. Van Fleet, it will be a once-bloomer. However, if that piece has not reverted and is still New Dawn, it will repeat bloom. I have several neighbors and friends whose repeat very well (that I rooted). Others, like mine, bloom but once. Mine blooms once. That's it. In the first few years, it repeated but now no repeat whatsoever. It's about 20 years old. I have rooted dozens for people from this one plant, some which repeat, some which do not....See MoreNew Rhododendron -- Need fast advice about planting...
Comments (6)Don't feed it! Rhododendrons have very low nutritional requirements compared to most shrubs - if your soil is even average fertility and an acidic ph, it may never need fertilizing. They do like a soil high in organic content (compost) that will retain some moisture without remaining soggy. Perfect conditions for rhododendron (see how close you can come) - loose aerated soil structure, ph of between 4.5-6.0, cool moist but well drained soil, shelter from wind and excessive sun. Be sure to loosen the rootball well when planting so the roots can establish into the surrounding soil, don't plant it any deeper than it was growing in the nursery container (if you've dug and amended the soil, allow for some settling by planting slightly high), and mulch after planting - the mulch can be the cornerstone to successful growing, it will conserve moisture and cool the root zone. Pay careful attention to watering, especially this first year. I can't give you an approximate mature size without knowing which rhododendron. Ground cover plants around it are not recommended; rhododendrons have a surface network of feeder roots that will eventually extend out at least as far as the widest branches and ground cover will interfere with root growth....See MoreProblem with New Microfiber Sofa, need advice
Comments (13)Saphire I bought a Precedent Microfiber sofa from Marshall Field's about 2 years ago. My sister has a Precedent sofa that I love and the fact that it's a divison of Sherrill I figured I could not go wrong. The sofa arrived on a Thursday, I had a party on Sunday. After the party the sofa felt like it was a few years old vs. a few days. It was very cushy. Not what I expected. Then I noticed it started to eat things; my hair, lint, you name it. I figured since it was my 3rd sofa I was stuck with it. About 8 months later I started looking at rugs and club chairs. I mentioned to my new sales associate that my sofa was eating things. She asked me to bring in a cushion, she spoke to her manager and they sent a technican to my house. He said it looked like I got a "bad" batch of furniture and they could replace the cushion. I said NO because then the cushion fabric would be different from the back. They offered me a replace or a refund. I opted for the refund. This time I bought bought velvet. I am not suprised that the store is being attentive, I am sure they have dealt with this before. I guess microfiber can be hit or miss. Good luck....See MoreNeed advice about installing new AC
Comments (1)"The first wanted $5,000! just to "patch" (did not specify what that meant) the system." It appears they are determined to sell her a new system, period; that is NOT Right! A ten year old system should be repairable at a reasonable cost, even if the evaporator would have to be replaced. You need to get a lot of bids before making any decisions. - udarrell Here is a link that might be useful: Proper HVAC Procedures...See MoreRelated Professionals
