^^^^ YES I did a google search to find a solution to melted polyester on a glass fireplace front and found this thread. I started with Weiman's Glass Cook Top cleaner, a paper towel and an old credit card for scraping. This took off a lot of it, but a thin, visible layer that I could feel with my hand remained. I took the advice of jk171400 and used a heat gun and razor blade paint scraper to get that last layer off, followed by a quick wipe with a paper towel. Towards the end, I was using the heat gun less and relying more on the scraper. Once you get the angle of the scraper right, it scrapes it right off. I went at it until I could run my hand across the glass and it was smooth. Success!

illinigirl - the very best thing in the world for drying out a shower is the Costco microfiber towels sold in the auto department. I keep one in my shower and the walls and door are bone dry after a wipe down. It's so much a habit now I don't even think about it. No water spots on the tile or glass or the shower head or handle. As for the fireplace, are you talking about the inside of the firebox? Unless you want it to look like it;s never been used, let it 'age' naturally with the fires. No guarantees, but for the soot stains try a strong solution of TSP. A paste made from TSP and something like Fuller's earth left on may also be worth a try, but test on a hidden place first. Iron stain: There's a product called Iron Out which is intended for water treatment equipment. I have seen it used (again in paste form) very successfully to remove rust stains from concrete. Details of how to use it are no doubt available online. Bluestone is highly porous; therefore stains are hard to remove so you may just have to live with them.

There are some special fireplace products designed to remove smoke and soot from stone masonry, as long as the stone isn't too porous. My favorite is called Paint-n-peel. It will take off years of accumulated smoke. As far as repairing the chips, that is a different matter. I've mixed up some patching for some very minor repairs in stone mantels, but it is a real trick to match texture and color. If you can post some photos here, I might be able to venture an opinion about the repairs.
