Any railings & stairs to match cumaru (brazilian teak) floor?

I had my heart set on a cumaru floor for it's medium color, interesting color, and hardness, but just found out my KD can't find the railings, or my first stair step (which is curved on both ends) in cumaru. He said he can do maple or oak stained "to match". I'm really concerned the stained to match, won't. I did find one company online what sells the stair step I need as well as the railings in cumaru - they are $$$ and I'm not sure of their quality or that the wood would match the floor.

My head is spinning but my options as I see them are:

* change the floor to oak or maple

* stay with the cumaru floor and change the bottom step to a square step in cumaru. Use some other wood (oak, maple, popular) stained to match on all the railings

* stay with the cumaru floor and use oak or maple stained to match on all the stairs and railings

* stay with cumaru floor and use Brazilian cherry on the stairs and railings.

* stay with cumaru floor. Get all stair supplies from online company.

* stay with cumaru floor. Get stair treads from flooring company. Get remaining stair supplies from online company.

Am I missing any options? Are there any options here that are disastrous? What do you think is the best solution?

Tara, I am not a flooring person either but was given the same info by my flooring guy. I just put down a QS oak floor which included three stairs. I think the original treads were pine. My floor guy said not to mess with it that he would stain it to match floor. Well I'm not too crazy about how it turned out. My trim Carpenter said he could cover it with oak but the floor guy said it should have been done before floor was laid. I wish now I would have just replaced them.

Does anyone have photos of their cumaru floors? Gardenchick1, you posted photos way back in '07 of your cumaru floor. Unfortunately, the link to photobucket said that your photo had been deleted or could not be seen. Anyway, I couldn't open the photos, and I'm dying to see your floors, since I'm considering installing an engineered cumaru floor. The only sample I've seen is by Mullican, and it's lovely. But I'm worried that it will look too "stripey" and what I'm really looking for is gorgeous color floors that don't look too busy. I have lots of my art work on the walls, and I want that to be the star of the show, but I want the floors to be unique in themselves. Am I making sense? Can anyone help out there?

It is personal preference, but in general: 1) Floors that come into contact should be the same wood and stain. If your dining room is next to your kitchen, the same wood should carry though both of them. 2) Stairs and railings should match the floor. Dark floors and light stairs would just look odd - to me at least. 3) Anything on the walls - cabinets, mantles etc don't need to match the floors. In fact, it usually sets them apart better if they don't match. You should probably stay with the same undertones though. eg if the cabinets and the floor both have warm red/orange undertones, they will probably "go" even if one is light and one is dark. As you can see in the pic above, the red of the cherry and the red of the oak look nice together even if the cherry is much darker. I don't think a really yellow maple floor wouldn't look nearly as good. If you wanted maple floors, you would want a "cooler" color dark instead of the "warm" cherry.
