Tile Floor in Basement - Installer Question

We are finally finishing off our basement and have a question for you installers. We are putting porcelain tile in the bathroom. We heard the general rule is butting the tiles up next to the expansion joint in the concrete floor and laying them out from that point to prevent possible cracking. However in measuring our floor we found out that the expansion joint is not straight -- there is as much as a 2" difference running vertically right through the middle of the bathroom floor. The salesperson from the flooring store said she would check with her installers to find out what they could do.

I would like to be informed as to all possible installation possibilities. Is this a big problem or is there an easy fix to the situation?
