Help with stain color for red oak floors..want warm brown color?

I have an older condo (built 1968) that I inherited from family. I am renovating the kitchen where I installed new red oak floors. The kitchen is next to a dinning alcove, which is adjacent to a living area. There was red oak under the carpet in these adjacent areas...the kind with grooves between the planks. I have been told different things as to whether or not these were originally prefinished floors. I want to stain all the floors the same color. I want to stain it dark enough so I don't have stripes (because of the grooves). A decorator friend wants me to do dark walunt. But, there is not a ton of light so I don't want to go too dark. I am hoping for a rich warm brown...a little red ok. The walls are pale yellow (windham cream). I have been looking at special walnut, provincial, early american. Any thoughts or especially PICTURES would be a help?
