Mohawk Carpeting

Two years ago new Mohawk carpet was installed in my home. It has recently been inspected by a certified Mohawk inspector who agreed w/me that the carpet has faded losing it's red color causing a green color casting over the entire carpet - his reason indicated color loss due to UV light or possible ozone. Mohawk has refused to honor any assistance stating color loss is not a mgf defect. Carpet dealer is not offering any support on my behalf as far as Mohawk's decision. I disagree w/Mohawk since my furniture, draperies, area rugs, etc. do not reflect color loss and feel Mohawk should make some type of amends. Anyone have suggestions as to recourse?

I worked for Mohawk and have no idea what a 'certified Mohawk inspector" is but nevertheless I don't ever recall a fading warranty. Some of the new polyesters or Smartstrand do offer fade resistance warranties. It is possible to redye the carpet in place. Without knowing more, ie is this in a room that gets lots of sunlight thru the windows etc. its sort of hard to know what to advise. As a factory rep we were often sent to look at problems but lots of things affect the look or performance of carpet, but not all of them are mfctg related. The carpet could have faded or changed colors for several reasons, but if fading isn't part of the warranty it wouldn't be covered.

There is no specific "fading" warranty, however I would think carpet discoloration would be part of the "manufacture defect" warranty. Since my draperies, furniture, area rugs have no fade discoloration the Mohawk carpet is the only item I've had a fade discoloration with.

Just seems to me Mohawk does not want to replace the carpet or honor their mfg defect warranty.

Power Play is an Aladin name I believe. Each dealer does not use their own names. There is huge protection in this business. Go to a Mohawk dealer and ask them to cal their rep and you would like to see either powerplay or a crossover to it. Or get on the horn and call local stores that carry Mohawk. The 1st non lazy store will be able to show it to you. It is hugely popular with property management accounts. believe me, it is a name that is real and known.

We are in the early stages of our build process too but our builder wants me to make all the decisions in the next few weeks. I still love a carpet from the SS Stone Peak range. The Carpet Court sales person told me Signature Homes use it in their show homes so on Saturday I went to visit the showhome only to find it had been sold the week before. I love the look of the Stone Peak range and that it is mottled and shows less tracking then the other ranges so I will probably go for it. Perhaps it is the best of both worlds and it does still come with a 20 year warranty.

Janice349- I've had smartstrand in 2 different housrs, plus a client had WHITE smartstrand in their house with 3 toddlers, and they all looked brand new 3 yrs later. In spite of my elderly dog having accidents. Perhaps you were given something else, but we're told it was smartstrand. I always got the mid grade frieze. Client had a plush. I love smartstrand and wold tear out new carpet of a different brand so I can install it. It didn't even mat down on stairs. When I went to sell my house, I didn't even clean it...just vacuumed and it still looked new.

Good thought, so we have seen that one type of Mohawk at one flooring store that we are purchasing from but we don’t have the time to get back over during the few weekday hours they’re open to find the exact one we want. We want to go a click down from that one, same SmartStrand (Triexta) material, but slightly cheaper without going down to builder grade. There are multiple stores nearby that are open on weekends and carry Mohawk so we want to find it there, but they have all told us the names of the Mohawk carpets are changed by Mohawk depending on the store. So we don’t know if we are comparing like for like. We were hoping there is a document where we can find what equals what. Like Chic Character = ?? And from there we can find something with a similar / slightly lower density and the same width of strand and similar pile height.
