I worked for Mohawk so may be able to help. Mohawk owns Horizon, galaxy, Aladdin, Karastan etc etc. Floorscapes is a division of Mohawk. Most lines are private labeled. Specs alone won't help decide. Mohawk doesn't normally publicize specs etc, but if your deciding between two grades the store should be able to help you get the info. Friends that put this in love Sorona as its soft, won't fade, and so far (2yrs) has been impervious to kitty throw ups. Seems like a good choice.

I have the two stores coming out this week to measure. I have missed the sale price on the Richmond, it was over today but I figure if they really want my business and the guy's question was to me,"What can I do to keep your business here?", he will still give me a good price on it. The second store where the Horizon New Sensation was, is the place that will give us the best deal on the tile we are also buying. Other guy has already told us he can't match that so even though I really liked the way Villa Way and Richmond felt (although the samples from both looked identical to the one from New Sensation), I may decide to go with the place we get the best overall deal for everything. We are even considering putting in wood looking vinyl in some of the rooms, again depending on the deal. Both places have that. I did ask for the upgraded pad from both. The one place has the Karastan gold padding, which I know will really jack up the price. On a side note, when I went to the Floorscapes store here, which is the place that has the Villa Way and Richmond, I said I was looking for the "3GT" on the label. He said, "I think you are mistaken, that's on Shaw Carpeting." I said, "I don't think so but as long as it says DuPont Sorona, we are okay. Then later when I turned the carpet over to look at the label, there was the "3GT". I asked him, "Is this a Shaw carpet here?" "No, that's Mowawk, we don't carry Shaw." Hmmm, well here's the "3GT" right on the label. The guy turned bright red and said he'd never noticed it. I told him, if he wanted to know anything more about his carpet, he should go to Carpetgirl on the Gardenweb Flooring Forum! HA! Thanks for your help. Now to make a decision!

I am so new here and am not sure where to post my question -- maybe you can help. Another question about Aladdin Silk at Home Depot-- I brought samples home and on the samples is written "Mohawk smartStrand BCF 3GT polyester with Dupont Sorona". I guess I am confused since I interpreted a prior post on another thread to mean that Aladdin was made with the Canadian PTT SmartStrand which wasn't Sorona. Does is make any difference in real life?? Also --Does anyone know the relative DENSITY between Aladdin Silk, Command I and II, and the Organic Luxury line? How would one judge quality between the lines? Thank you, Thank you soooooo much!

Carpetgirl, We have bought a 10 yr old house and are changing all of the flooring before we move in. Our first major challenge is selecting carpet and this thread has been sooo helpful in understanding the options! We are definitely going with SmartStrand and we want the saxony plush. We expect to be a "shoes off" house with no pets but several young grandchildren. Kind of wanting the more formal look of the pile cut but don't want to end up with a fuzzy mess in 5 years, so we are willing to spend a little more on the best quality Smart Strand. We have found the following examples of this style in SmartStrand and are looking for the most dense, highest twist. Each dealer provides different information and it has been really difficult to compare. We have narrowed it down to: Horizon New Sensations and Alexander Smith Kingsley Palace. They have the EXACT colors with different names but the Kingsley Palace carpet appears to have a longer fiber. I don't have the face weight or twist ## to compare. Can you tell me which product is considered to be higher quality..Horizon or Alexander Smith? Not much information about Alexander Smith out there, though lots of great history lessons about the company. (We also looked at Karastan's Enviable and to our untrained eyes and fingers, it did not seem as dense and cushy as these others.) We sure would appreciate any information you have on this..we have reached a brick wall in our research and we need to make a selection this week and move on to paint colors! Arghhhh. Thanks!
