I'm not an expert but you should be able to put stuff on floating vinyl floors... right? My parents did vinyl planks in their basement and they have all sorts of heavy furniture on it. Couches, beds, heavy dresser, etc. I have it in part of my basement too and also have a big sectional, heavy TV cabinet, etc. The vanity will just be contacting it in four small spots where the feet are. I wouldn't think that would prevent it from expanding too much as long as you leave the requisite gap by the walls. I would take a close look at the installation instructions for the specific product you will be using and see if it says anything like that. Or ask someone familiar with the product. But in any case you are right that if you don't extend the floor under the cabinet it will look weird / unfinished. If you are 100% locked on the vinyl floors and that vanity, personally I would risk the expansion issues vs. leave a big gap around the vanity.

I personally like the porcelain marble look tile floors for a bathroom. Very luxurious. And there are some very good look a likes. I have wood look tile in my whole downstairs and while I love it and it is beautiful, it is more rustic than I’d like in a bathroom.

Yes, I am extremely displeased and will never call him again. That is for sure! Back to original question -- you say not possible. My only choice is to spend a few more thousands to correct the first blunder and watch the installer like a hawk. You really have to be vigilant and watchful. Sigh. I have noticed the preference with LVP seems to be somewhat regional. In my area high end homes are built with wood look vinyl now. Personally I have teenagers and wouldn’t install tile on the floor in their bathroom, as much as I would love the opportunity to design a bathroom around some really great floor tile. There are really great vinyl options, and I want it to be as easy as possible for teenagers to clean themselves, no porous grout on the floor to worry about. If it was my own bathroom it would be different. Of course if YOU really want tile there are definitely options that are better than others as far maintenance, durability, and budget for kid bathrooms. If it’s a matter of stretching your budget, I wonder if the contractor is anticipating bringing in separate sub contractors instead of one tile person? I know the quote for my sister in a different part of the country to do LVP flooring was astronomical compared to the cost of labor where I am. The cost savings seem most significant when it comes to DIY vinyl floors.
