Hi everyone, I laid an area rug over a wall to wall carpet to break up the area in our long living room. I have it flush up against the entertainment center and on the opposite side it goes under the couch and the front legs are sitting on it. On the width side of the carpet I have a love seat with just one leg over the edge of the area rug. I have noticed some bunching in between the couch (side ways) and the love seat. I was assuming this was because the area rug came rolled up. I can't get it to lay flat - it has some ripples in it. I went ahead and moved the love seat leg off of the edge thinking that might be the problem. Can anyone give me some suggestions as to how I can get this section to lay flat? The other end is just fine. I was going to get some flat blocks to lay on it but wonder how long that would take - not sure I would want flat patio blocks laying around in my liv room too long. But, if anyone has experience with this, I would greatly appreciate some advice.

Running - I did get your point the first time. Yes, everything you listed is in the photo and has reasons I felt it belonged there. I won't address all of them, but the box holds books for our toddler. I'd rather see the box than a bunch of books since I have other toys in here. The decor items change regularly. Sometimes I keep it bare and other times not. That round end table and the buffet in my foyer are the only two places I create any type of vignettes. The rest of surface space in the house is pretty bare and practical. Yes, those are antlers on the wall. We're supposed to make a room reflect out lives and hunting is a part of ours. I wouldn't like my hockey sticks there. I can't just replace everything in the room. As for the main pieces, sometimes you have to work with what you have. I've already stated I don't plan to make any furniture purchases until we're going to redo the whole room and I have a plan. I wonder how the room would look if you just got rid of that chair (you said you don't use it I think) and all the other stuff barnacled around it and maybe some of the other furniture and decor items. I actually do sit in that chair to read and for conversation. For now, I will say at least it's really comfortable and fits my height well. Almost forgot the ottoman, but that gets used for feet and the shelf also neatly holds, and somewhat hides, certain toys. The decorative items are one thing, but I can't just take the furniture out of the room for the sake of it looking better. We actually are following Magnaverde's rule along with our rule of making things work until you can replace them. If I strip everything out of the room besides the main pieces it looks unfinished.

As someone that has two smaller dogs, I am going to tell you that wall to wall carpet will STINK over time with dogs - regardless of how well trained they are and then there is the cleaning issue. Mine have an auto door so there are never bathroom accidents, but sometimes they do get sick. One compromise that would work is to get a wool rug that is much larger for the space and have the edges bound. I will only put in wool rugs with dogs and I have wall to wall in my bedrooms. I never realized that asking for wool wall to wall carpet is almost like asking for a rotary landline phone, but it is still made - but I had to use a designer. We had wool carpet in the house I grew up in and it lasted 40 years. Do not go with cheap nylon synthetic fabrics, you will regret it with the dogs.

It may improve moving around on your chair, It's hard to tell how thick your carpet is; but I agree with RL Relocation LLC, it will have a "weird" effect on the over all look of the room. Just my opinion but if you are eventually going to have hardwood flooring, you will have an extra rug around unless you still plan to use it above the finished floor.
