Good Monday morning, Suzanne! It's coolish here today, but sunny. Nice winter weather for SE Teas.

We had a pretty nice Christmas. DH's DD and her BF were here, and we had a quiet Christmas breakfast, then opened gifts. Around 1, my youngest Dson and his family came over, and we all opened more presents, then had a lovely appetizers lunch, visited, some went to feed the ducks, then my son fixed a lovely spaghetti and meatball dinner. I got the idea from reading here last week, and we all agreed that it was a great change from the traditional ham or turkey dinner.

I got lots of books, CD's, a Tom-Tom, a Target GC, a Scentsy tart burner, and a yard flag with our initial on it. We watched lots of movies of all kinds, played on the 4 computers around here, and just relaxed.

The exciting news I have to share is that my oldest Dson and his Dwife are expecting! I've known for a couple of months, but was sworn to secrecy until DDIL got to announce it to her family in MD this past weekend. The baby is due in mid-July. If it's a boy, they're naming it for my dad.

Back to reality this week. Lots of leftovers to deal with, undecorating the house, and an eye doctor appointment tomorrow. Looking forward to hearing about everyone's celebrations!

Good afternoon and happy new year!

It's cold here, too, even getting below freezing tonight. BRRR.

We had a great Christmas. Christmas Eve at our mom's - got with sisters and in-laws. My crabmeat dish disappeared quickly! Lots of good food. After most left, those of us remaining put on our pajamas and went over to our nephew's new house and opened more presents. Christmas Day was brunch at his house (with his mom and sister doing the hostessing - he's 25 and single, does NOT cook yet!) Watched Christmas Story for the millionth time and laughed like it was the first time. Day after Christmas we shopped with all of the other crazy people, then had a nice dinner out with mom, and my sister's family. Great presents - jewelry, clothes, new lamp, a book, a Snuggie (don't laugh - I love it -ha!), money from in-laws. Got home late yesterday and have been slowly trying to get back to normal. Did not walk this morning because it was so cold, but really need to get back on track.

Received compliments on my weight loss (think the Levi Slimming 512 jeans helped!)

Really a nice time. I hope all of you enjoyed yours, too. Have a good night.

Hi again! Wodka - I'm no angel by a long shot. I am using my Weight Watchers to guide me. My winter tune-up has a lot to do with mentally taking better care of myself. It's too easy to beat ourselves up - which I can do when I'm not taking care. And for me it is a daily effort to pay attention to what I am eating that creates a balanced diet. I totally get the not being hungry at times - especially when stressed. You have a lot on your plate to deal with. Giving as much as you do to support your husband takes a lot of energy which is why paying attention to trying to eat on some sort of regular pattern is very important right now. You need to pay attention Wodka to yourself too. Keep your strength up. I trip and fall all over the place on my journey. My help with WW is facing the truth and keeping a journal of my foods. Some days are great, some not too good. It's the overall picture every week I strive for. We all need a piece of cake, cookie (sorry Simon) and some comfort. I'm just trying to pay more attention to portion sizes. And I use lunch plates for dinner because it's more what my Mom used to serve and she kept her weight all her life. Granted she loved and ate many vegetables in her meals. So Hang In There Wodka. Even if one meal a day you can incorporate something for Wodka from your daily goals, I think right now that would be great. You have come such a long, long way from your first post here. I was so happy to see you still here after my coming and going over the last couple of years. Don't ever beat yourself up and just keep putting one foot in front of the other. You have been amazing on your journey. I'm so pleased to hear Bob's care can come closer to home. It will be of more comfort for Bob not to travel so much as well as for you. I continue to send positive energy, prayers to you and Bob. Hang in there Wodka. I'm so glad you are here. Hi Raeanne. I have not done SS but many folk have had lots of success with her diet. Suzanne is a wonderful lady. She is inspirational in so many ways. I remember years ago she published a book of poems. Her tenderness and intimate thoughts came out. Her beauty comes from within more than what we see on covers. I believe you too will have success with her positive energy coaching you along the way. Dee you are wise to stay home. Too many folk go to work when a few days of rest would get them on the road to recovery so much better. Years ago while serving in the military we had to report on 'sick parade' - medical clinic - where the doctors would decide if you went to work or went home. I hated that. There were so many times I should have been home in bed. Forget the fact I had to bus halfway across town to get to the clinic with a fever, or flu, infecting everything I touched and people I sat next too. Not funny at all. You take good care of yourself Dee. I am glad you can stay home to recover. My goodness I yap alot, eh? Hugs to all, Peggy

Happy Saturday!!! Yes I'm seed planting now - but in different ways. I cannot plant until after the last frost day - normally in Ontario Canada it's the 3rd weekend in May. Right now I am starting some stuff to grow indoors - even a few tomato plants. I have ample south facing windows. Some of my veggies are to share with friends too. Things like some of my slow growing flowers - lavender - I like to start a huge tray indoors. Since the onion seeds are from big onions, I'd be lucking in spring to have small bulbs from the seeds. The herbs will eventually go outside. My next venture is using water jugs I saved from the summer to do 'Winter Sowing' - had lots of success with that over the years everywhere I lived. Trudi who started it all now has her own website and has moved on but left terrific FAQs at GW. My other focus for this week is challenging others to tackle a box a day to declutter (it's on the KT). Makes this unpacking a little more fun. Misery loves company! LOL. Last night we had friends over for dinner and cards. We had a riot. I had waaaaay too much fun. Let myself go too much but mentally it was all worth it. Haven't laughed like that in some time. Besides laughter burns energy. I'm carrying on today. Did not get my cook ahead done because DH and I spent the afternoon giving this place a good cleaning over (felt fantastic afterwards). My new friend Catherine last night mentioned a nearby town (she lives just outside) is starting a quilt club. She's interested and so am I. We're going to check that out. While we go quilting our boys will enjoy male bonding. I'm getting more social activity in the country than I had living in the city. You can take a bus in the city to a shopping venue or park but that's not socializing. This is better than prozac! Besides I have a ton of quilting magazines I might find good homes for. So lets really get out there an enjoy this weekend. My continued love and support to all of use - my arms are open for sharing hugs. Take care everyone - let's breath, find something beautiful in every day. Today we take another step forward, together. Whoooo Hoooooooo! Peggy

Sounds like everyone is in this together! -And doing very well! *************YOU GO, GIRLFRIENDS!******************* NWRoseLady: Where are you in Puget Sound? What part? I'm out in the islands off the Anacortes ferry. NHSuzanne: A little soulful, hopeful light for Belle coming at you from me! McPeg: How's the college app going????? Good luck! Wodka: I think eliminating alcohol makes losing easier. The alcohol calories + snacks calories = LIPS to HIPS! Jan, you will stay on track and not become a wuss(your words!) here. You see, I have these boots that are very pointy and have really high heels! Gretchen: Cool deal your daughter's doing. One word: DEET! I used a lot of it in Nicaragua, Alaska, and Aussie Land! Of course, in Alaska, the state bird is the mosquito! But, my gawd, woman, get out to Cali and see your son! Give yourself a reward! Your photo link is COOL! Thanks for sharing! Dee: I can't tell you if Biggest Loser is worth the time, but I can tell you that I haven't had TV since July, don't miss it, and I really like NetFlix and reading books! Lol! Hugs for your late aunt-hope you made all your travels okay. Great job multi-tasking, BTW! Raeanne: Lots of FLOODING in the NW--but none on the rock, except for the sheer volume on the roofs. Some roofs are failing--like ours--and water is currently pouring down the walls in our business office! The roofer is in there now, trying to fix it. BTW, we took our house off the market until spring. We're taking a mental vacation! Do you think you could send me the 3 foot tall version of the St. Joseph statue for when we put it back on the market???? LOL! I wish your hubby was here to sell it for us. I'd feel a LOT better! Let me know when you go to S.D. if you go in the summer. My in-laws live right by there; I'll fly down and we could rendezvous for a NON-FAT latte. Definately worth the air fare! DonnaSNJ: Most of the Biggest Losers DO NOT maintain their weight. I just read an article on them and it was very disappointing (and sad) to me to read about them and their weight creeping back on. It's a lifetime of a lifestyle---it's HARD! Milkdud- I'd go to the gym if there was a buncha guys there to help me work out!!! I tend to gravitate toward firefighters more than police officers though...(giggle) Okay, ummmm, things I'm doing for me: 1. My family bought me a light box for Christmas and I'm on my 3rd day of using it. It's so dark in the winter on the rock and I live in porched house with very tall trees all around. I cannot tell if the light box is working for a few more days, but it makes me SIT STILL for about 30-45 minutes a day! I actually look forward to it! The light is VERY bright and I like it. 2. I started using Slim Shots and it seems to help to curb my appetite. You can google them if you're interested but basically, it's a combination of oat oil and palm oil in a little cup the size of coffee creamer and you drink one with brekky and--if you want to--one with lunch. Anyway, it seems to help me a lot, so we'll see how it works when the psychological effect wears off in a week! 3. I am also keeping a food diary. I discovered I eat a lot crunchy food like rye toast w/ butter and veggie bootie when I'm stressed---and I am still snacking on the CRUNCHY FOODS when I'm bored, upset, or feel like I want to be a bad girl. I realized from the diary that I was drinking WAY too many lattes per week. I have stopped going to the latte drive thru---BUT when I have company--not very often--it's sort of a Northwest tradition to have a coffee with friends! I also have a late night eating habit that I need to curb. Soooooooooo, I've lost a pound since starting all this and hopefully, a downward trend on the scale will continue. I am making small changes and don't want to DIET because I just set myself up for failure. I will add in some exercise next week and continue to reinforce my 3 New Year's habits. I want to add water, but the water here is positively putrid to drink, and I hate buying bottled---ideas? I watched a great movie last night: PEACEFUL WARRIOR. A must see!

Happy April Fool's Day everyone. Hugs to everyone who needs them. We got here on Saturday & got everything unloaded Sunday. We got the truck taken back on Monday. I still have a few things to put up but for the most part, everything is in its place. It looks really nice. Here is the sad news. We took our furbabies to the vet yesterday. The oldest one, Lucy, has heartworms. We have to take her back on Monday to have them staged. We have had her a week today & have already had to pay out the wazoo for her. We love both the little ones. Just trying to figure out how we are going to afford the treatment. It is very, very sad & I wish I could say that this was an April Fool's joke but it isn't. Besh~I know how you feel. Dave tells everyone that it took us 10 years to even be able to consider having another dog after we had to give ours up when we moved to Florida. We were still crying every time we said their names. These 2 little ones have already brought us so much joy. If you or RAEANNE could let me know the best thing to pick up hair, I would appreciate it. Papillons are not supposed to shed but IDK if it is b/c of stress or b/c they weren't groomed properly or petted enough, they are shedding. Not as much now as they were a week ago!!! I cannot tell you how far they have come in a week. I'm so glad that Maddie got to do Rabbit, Rabbit. LOL I got Dave this morning. He has been winning a lot lately. I am thinking about all of you & I wish I had been able to write down what each of you said so I could comment but I have the computer on my bed right now & 2 dogs & a snoring husband in a pear tree! LOL I hope that all the MIAs will come out & play. Did we ever find out what happened with John? I miss him. He snagged himself a GF & doesn't have time for us anymore, right? It is supposed to be in the 90s here this weekend so our 4 year old granddaughter is playing 2 soccer games tomorrow & we are going to watch them. Hope everyone else enjoys their weekend. I will make the ultimate sacrifice & get a sunburn for everyone if you want me to. ;)

milkdud - I got a Slanket! so I won't laugh at your Snuggie if you won't laugh at my Slanket. There was an episode of 30 Rock where Liz is wearing her "Slanket" and doesn't want anyone to know how much she likes it. So I jokingly told my kids not to laugh, but I wanted a Slanket, thinking it was a made up name for that 30 Rock episode. But the Slanket actually exists and mine is warm, cozy and HUGE. I have already read two books snuggled up in its warmth.

My other gifts were contributions towards my new Kitchen Aid mixer and telephoto lens for my Nikon. I got lots of gift cards from my preschoolers and I am saving them for a the mid-winter doldrums that are sure to hit in February.

My DS is here until Wednesday and I think I will take down the tree once he leaves. DD was only here for 2 days and that went by too quickly, but I was grateful for 2 days as opposed to none. Now I will have to wait until May to see them again.

I am looking forward to cleaning out my holiday goodies and getting back to a healthy "diet" in the new year. I used to feel bad about throwing away food, but not any more.

Now I am off to find my Slanket and another good book!

Marcie, it was me who got the Snuggie, not milkdud, even though I'm sure she's "cool enough" to have one, too! ha. but I agree, I love how warm and BIG they are, even though when you "wear" it, you look like a member of some cult or something!!!

I just put a piece of fudge in my mouth that my sister-in-law made. Got to get rid of that, and soon!

milkdud, congratulations on your pending grandbaby! I thought I had included that in my earlier message, but didn't. You must be very happy and excited!

I'm leaving my tree and stuff up a few more days, too. Too pretty and I haven't had enough time to enjoy it.

Taco Soup on tap for dinner tonight - it's a great night for it.

Enough for now.

Good Tuesday all,

Sounds like you all had a lovely Christmas. Jan, I was especially happy to hear you had a great time. I knew you were not really looking forward to it all that much!

Milkdud and Marci I am glad you enjoyed your Christmas too.

Ours was good. I was happy to get home Christmas afternoon. I was exhausted from that 24 hour period! LOL It's always good to get home.

I need some scrapbooking ideas. Each year at Christmas we get a short not from DFIL who briefly outlines the high points and touches on the lows...it's a yearly tradition. We have saved ours for the last fifteen years when they started. Some of them have been folded and stuffed into a drawer. I retrieved them all and am trying to find a nice way to preserve them. Any ideas?

It's bitter cold here 14° and high, high winds. It's miserable to be out in. I am coming down with something, my ears and nose are blocked and my throat is sore. I wish I had a slanket, snuggie or both right now! to make it worse, I am covering my office this week so no chance of going home! Okay, I will quit whining. Brrrrr

Hi! MIA reporting in. I left in a hurry to go to TX from the 17th to the 24th. The 17th was my Dad's 75th birthday & the family gave him a birthday party on the 18th. All 3 kids, all 4 grandkids, & both greatgranddaughters wereable to be there. It was great. And of course as a bonus, I was able to be there for Morgan's 2nd through 3rd week of life! Woo Hoo!! She is SO precious. Only cries if she is hungry or has a soiled diaper. And Aubrey loves all over her.

Raeanne~I loved the beautiful angel ornament you sent. I haven't taken a picture yet. I took the camera to TX & thought that both cards were full so didn't get any pics. Then got home & Dave showed me that one wasn't full. Bummer. Dave loved his kisses. That was so sweet for you to remember him & the fact that he is a chocoholic! LOL Also, thanks for the cute slipper socks, the wonderful note cards (I will have to order more from you!), & the good smelling sachet.

Marci~I see that everyone else was getting very cute ornaments instead of the ugly ones as in previous years. LOL Oops on me. So sorry. She really is one of a kind though, don't you think?

Milkdud~Congrats on the new addition to the family! That is uber exciting. I can't wait for you to find out if it is a boy or a girl.

NH Suzanne~What kind of sbing help do you need? I'd love to see your pics.

Maddie~You really sound good. I hope that 2010 is going to be your year.

Tikanis~That menu sounded so good. You have always been the best cook. And I loved what you were putting together for the bean soup recipe. We helped our friend do that for her SIL for a chili thing.

NJ Donna~I'm so excited about your new house. You still owe me an e-mail & when I get it, include your new addy. OK? LOL That should be our new deal.

Amy~It was fantastic to hear from you & I'm glad that you had a good Christmas.

Dee~Your Christmas sounded good too. I'm glad that you all had some time off so you don't come back & have to try to catch up so much. And, listen, the horse can take it. I'm for the pomegranite martinis though. YUMMY! Love those things.

Wodka~I'm so proud of you losing the weight & having everyone notice. Doesn't that feel SO good? I got some fudge too & ate way too much. Now I'm hoping Dave or someone will want to eat the rest of it.

Well, I think my NY's resolution should be to try to get here more often. So I'll start the resolutions right now. Anyone else have one? Have a great one everyone. Patti :-)

Thanks for the birthday wishes, :) I actually forgot that today was my birthday, lol.

For Christmas, my son sent me some lovely soaps from The Soap Opera, and some people from my home helper's church sent me some raspberry-vanilla lotion and a lovely soft bath towel.

Nice to see you again, too, Patti, and Marci :) and others who have welcomed me again.

Rabbit! Rabbit! And a Happy New Year to all!

I must be the only one who didn't go out to celebrate last night since nobody else is here. I was in bed, with purple earplugs in my ears to block out the gunshots, by 10 pm last night. Today, we're attending a games party starting at 2 until? Hubby and I just finished our New Year's day meal of ham, blackeyed peas, cabbage, and cornbread with jalepeno jelly. YUM! Our hosts are having King Ranch chicken tonight for dinner, so we had to get in the traditional food now.

Amy, a belated Happy Birthday to you! It sounds like you had a lovely one.

My resolution for this year is to only make resolutions that I can keep, so I haven't made any YET! LOL Wishing everyone a great first day of the new year!

We went shopping yesterday. We didn't really do anything special for NYE but we did watch the ball drop & stayed up until 3 a.m. So I didn't get up until almost noon today. LOL I did have blackeyed peas yesterday & we plan to have some again today. It is raining & cooler here today. Wind is really blowing so may wait until tomorrow to get back out.

Milkdud~I was thinking that might be a resolution that I COULD keep. ;-)

I hope every one has a nice New Years & Rabbit Rabbit to you too. Patti :-)

Happy 2010!

Both DD's went home today and my house is very still and quiet :(

We went to a fantastic New Year's Eve party at a friends house, complete with a DJ and dancing. My plan was to leave around 10 and enjoy a quiet time at home, but we stayed well past midnight and had a lot of fun. I actually enjoyed going to work today and get back into a routine. I don't want to eat or drink anything besides water LOL.

Patti - glad you like the angel it reminded me of you for some reason - well obviously you are a real angel.

No resolution here either. I always strive to be a better person, so I will continue with that one LOL - easier to keep than the diet thing.

Tomorrow will be laundry and taking down the tree day. Since we just put the tree up on Christmas Eve I could keep it up longer, but I want my house back.

Enjoy your evening.
