Holy Mole, Bernd, that is a gorgeous hosta. I hope your grandson comes off the video games long enough to see what he grew in the garden. I have a one eyed (at the start) which has one seedpod on it this year. It is in the ground, in the shade, and I love the way it is growing. It is bigger than my S&S which started in 2010. Wu may not be the most exciting colors and such, but it sure makes up for it in sheer size. And it looks good growing too. It will be bigger than some elephant ears I plant, you know? :)

Don't have a Sagae :) and have the others on hand. And if I order one then I need a couple more to justify shipping and... it never ends, so trying to make do with what I have. I have a Parhelion but need a super sized something- this corner has been a chore since day one in this house and I want it filled in once and for all. May just go with the three S&S and call it a day. And yes, there is space- it looks shortened in the photo but I measured a very clear 84"x84" in each of the three spots with room to spare, and the back spot is the largest one.

Here's a picture of mine three years old in 2015; for some reason I don't have a good picture from this year. This year she was about 36" tall and 50" across, but she's pretty tired and tattered now in October. Not picture-worthy. I have moved this hosta every year. Imagine how big she'd be if I leave her alone! I have to move it again next year as I installed a privacy fence on the property line and the Empress is too close to it. She will be moved toward more sun - she's in pretty heavy shade now.

i have no experience with this place.. but scroll down to the pic of what i might call a one ... 2 .. and three year old TC .... though if well grown .... the 3rd pic might be a late second year plant ... the starter plant on the left.. is probably a one year plug .... and what a grower might receive in a spring TC shipment from the lab ... and if they are lucky.. by end of that year ... the middle pic .... and so on ... and of course ... you must include what the cultivar is ... as to how fast it will grow to maturity.. and a giant like EW .... is going to be 5 to 7 years to such .... depending on what size root mass you buy ... if it were me.. i would bare root every plant.. for placement in mother earth ... but this time of year.. i would be very concerned about winter heave ... and would mulch heavily to avoid such .... so.. per your pic.. at least a second .... and more likely a third year plant .... as i said.. it was not a TC plug this spring ... imo ... ken https://www.hostasdirect.com/about-our-hostas/
