Does anyone have any experience with this type of "credit cleaning"? Is it real, or is it another scam? They supposedly review your credit report and remove derogatory items, quicker than the 7 year usual. For example, I had a credit card balance that was paid off about 2 years ago, and it was still listed as having a balance in June of this year!!! Is it better to just write to the CBs yourself? I was told that they can ignore your letters if they feel they are meritless.

Hi jazi,

Check what Dave Donhof(?) told another person asking about credit, a thread right beside this one, initial message by someone name of Kathy something.

He provides some links to help you check out your credit yourself.

I'm not sure just what channel you use to get a report free, but I think that you can ask them for repair without charge (though how you know what may need repair, I'm not sure.

You can get a free report if you have been turned down for credit by some credit-granting agency.

Well...there are two ways to answer your question.

Are there agencies (some of which actually have an attorney that works there) that clean up your credit.

They CAN do it by trying to manipulate the credit laws...i.e. sending may validation requests, etc and then if the creditor doesn't respond in time, insisting that they will sue them if they don't remove the line altogether.

The other way is simply hiring someone to act as your agent...they essentially do all the same stuff you can do on your own. The advantage to this is they can negotiate on yoru behalf...and they have no emotional attachment to the problem. We did this route about 5 years ago....didn't pay all that much, but it completely took the weight off our shoulders.

That being said, we HAD the money to pay the accounts off...so the attorney simply negotiated that in exchange for full payment, the creditor would completely removed the account OR resubmit to the agencies as Paid As Agreed.

Now, the problem with this is that you need to have the money in lump sum to PAY them when the attorney negotiates the deal for you.

There ARE other things you can do, but to do so, you must become knowlegeable about the whole credit game...this usually takes someone about 2 months or so of study.

Yikes. I sympathise with you. I once managed an apartment house. Had a tennant move out (she didn't tell me she was moving out) and then 'gave' it to someone else - which I found out when I asked the guy who was living there who he was (always good for a landlord to ask who the strange face is). So, I didn't get the opportunity to interview him first, but he seemed okay. She didn't ask for the deposit back and I wouldn't have given it back anyway because she left without notice. I lived in the apartment house also (right next door). I left for a few days only to come home and find that my place had been broken into. Was it him? Don't know, but I think so, because then he left in the middle of the night, so to speak, never to be seen again, and also did not take most of his stuff with him. Then again, I had renters that were there and are still there (though I no longer manage the house) and were great tennants. Any chance of getting in touch with the 'friend' that referred her so maybe he/she can help pressure this woman to clean up her act a bit? I'm thinking it will be futile, but it might be worth a shot. And I'm sorry that I have no idea what kind of an attorney to hire (or maybe I'm actually lucky not to have that knowledge, as I have never needed an attorney). Good luck. soggy, Do you have a good connection with a credit union or bank? What'd be your possibility of getting a loan from them? If unsecured, probably somewhere around 10% - almost certainly a lower rate than you're paying now. If you own some mutual fund or stocks for which you are holding certificates, lodge them as collateral - or a (whole life) insurance policy with some cash values built up, you could probably get a loan at 5 - 6% approximately. Whole life insurance policies should do something to at least partially justify their high prices! If you own mutual funds or stock in companies with only documentation in the broker's computer - maybe have them issue certificates, if you plan to hold them for a while. The $35. - 50. or so fee would soon be made up by the difference in interest cost, if you have any sized balance owing on your "credit" (really "debt") card. Pay the darn "credit" card company off in full. Just one proviso - when you get the "credit" card balance paid off - don't succumb to the temptation to use it to go out and buy a lot more stuff! I recently noticed some payments charged on my debit card that I traced to a magazine subscription company. However, when I called the company and gave them my address they said that they didn't have anything for that address. I NEVER use my debit card for transactions like this, so I called my bank to get my debit card number cancelled. Then I remembered a magazine subscription that I have been paying for for my daughter, and looked on the company's website using my daughter's address, and sure enough, there were about 4 new subscriptions for magazines going to her address. And the prices were much higher than if you subscribed directly. I called my daughter, and she told me that she thought that she was getting free subscriptions - that was the come on. She didn't read the teeny tiny print that said that if she did not act that the subscriptions would automatically renew, and that the original card charged (which was apparently my debit card) would be charged. That's not even the card that I am currently using to pay for the magazine that I initially subscribed to for her. What really maddened me is that the mag. sub. company would not give me any information about the charges until I came up with the address that they were going to. Even though it was my card being charged!!

I do claim my son as a dependent, but the rules in effect at the time of the purchase (June, 2009) did not stipulate that condition. On the IRS Form (Rev December 2009) it says that rule applies for homes purchased after November 6, 2009. But I do see where it says he can just sign the settlement statement before he submits it. Thanks! I'm still a bit concerned about the $1 sale price listed on the deed since they have asked for that as well. Also the IRS is asking for a copy of his drivers license showing the home address as his legal residence. Not sure what we will do about that - he did not get a NY license since he is covered under our policy and we live in another state. Anyone know if they will accept utility bills or some other "proof" that you are actually living there? Also, the rules in effect when we purchased the house stated the house had to be a "primary residence", not necessarily the "legal residence".
