Question on Credit Score Report

Last December, in the midst of my Christmas shopping,I couldn't find my Mastercard. I called the issuing bank and got a replacement in about a week. I recently got a free credit report and it shows "Stolen/lost card." Does anyone know if this impacts my crdit score in any way? It shows I'm a little forgetful, that happens when you're over 50,I guess.

I don't see why it should matter whether it affects your credit score. You can't go back in the past and unlose the card.

more importantly is does the NEW card number show the original open date or teh date that you got the new card?

for example, i had my wallet stolen several years ago. i reported all my cards stolen and got new ones. Discover and First USA both reported the old numbers as lost/stolen and teh new ones with a open date of when i got the cards. this decreased my FICO instatnly because i lost several YEARS of age on my TL.

if you wish to see you current score, the ONLY place to get the real score is to go to MYFICO.com and pay for it. remember, if it does not SPECIFICALLY say this is a FICO score, then it is an inhouse score for whatever service you are using and may differ greatly to teh good or to the bad from you rreal scores that lenders look at.

Start with a sheet of paper, or photo copy the report and using pencils correct each error and then send it back. Is it the same on all the credit agencies? You need to get copies from each agency, Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian and compare each. I would clarify the mistakes, but I don't know if you can remove addresses. One of the companies you can call, and this might help. If you never worked for a company, you can put in a disbute. On the credit report you received, it should tell you what to do to change/disbute the information. As to the married question, talk to your tax person or a lawyer about that. I too am in the process of clarifing some information on my reports. Good luck and you can get help by just typing in credit score information.

I have heard in the past that paying off a mortgage does cause your credit score to drop by a certain number of points after the fact- I can't remember the exact number offhand though. However, I can tell you from experience that you don't have to have large debt or a mortgage to have a high credit score. When we went to buy our first home, we hadn't carried more than $2500 in CC debt at any time and had never had a mortgage or car loan; our credit scores were 820 and 810 respectively (DH apparently got a bonus 10 points for having an old cancelled Pier 1 CC in his name- it was the only difference). FWIW, we do what myfask referenced and use a CC for all expenses and pay it in full each month. Since we put everything we can on the card, some months it can be quite high and current activity shows and affects your credit score- it may be one more thing we did right without knowing. Q

How frustrating! I'd continue to call them and pursue it. After sending them proof of Social Security once, I'd have stopped. But if they make you send it a 3rd time I'd do it by certified return receipt mail and ask them what happened to the other 2 submissions and who had access to it. I just requested my free annual credit report online from Transunion & Equifax. With Transunion I had a terrible time filling in the necessary information to verify who I was before getting the actual report. Good luck in your endeavor.

My Husband and I just applied for a loan with mortgage broker to get a pre-approval letter for an upcoming offer we want to make. She told me all of our credit scores (6 in total, his 3 and mine.) I was actually surprised how different some scores were! My Husbands I remember specifically. His lowest was 800 and his highest was 850. He has what I would deem perfect credit, ie I don't recall him EVER making a late payment on ANYTHING and we have virtually no debt. We use a credit card for the reward points, but pay in full every month. So, I don't understand the difference in scores. However, for the purpose of the loan & terms, She explained they would use the midddle score of each borrower and then the lowest of those 2.That is the score they use to determine the rate and programs we qualify for. For us this score was 796 and she said that would qualify us for any program out there with the best rates available. Since it's new construction and the loan is 4-6 months away, we didn't get to the nitty gritty so I can't say specifics. She did tell me any score about 720 (at least with them) got you the best of the best.

No... the lost/stolen card annotation has no effect to your scores.

Thanks for the info! I remember when we bought our house and applied for a mortgage, my credit report was good except for a couple of late payments. I had to write a letter "explaining" them for the bank. Don't remember what I said, but we DID get the loan approved.
