Hello everyone!

We had a wonderful time in Tennessee. I got to see a completely different side of life in America. My friend is not taking very good care of herself but I think I managed to get her thinking about changing some things to improve her health. We will be staying in closer contact so maybe I can get those boots out to virtually kick some butt. Although I did not ride her (six) horses, I did look at them in her barn, and I actually "touched" one of her 6 dogs (that's a big deal for me - LMAO!). When I download DH's pictures, I'll send one along to Marci for our photo album.

Hi All! First off, Maddie, you have been in my thoughts and prayers since I heard about your Dad. How are you doing there, girlfriend? And the family? ((( HUGS))) Suzanne, You and Sweet Pea! I hope that she is soon well and STAYS well! I know how hard it is when a loved one (2 or 4 footed) is ailing. Patti, I want to hear about your painting class! Have you ever done anything like this before? I'm also waiting to hear what the doc says. Hi to Dave : ) Lynn, those instructions for Crazy Train were as clear as mud to me LOL! KY Susie, sending good thoughts your sister's way...Nice to "meet you"! I have been MIA most of the week. My Dear friend Gael's Dad passed away on Wednesday. We have been friends since we were kids and of course, this is a difficult time for her ( Maddie, it has to be very much the same for you). I have had a HORRIBLE dieting week. (don't ask). Thanks to everybody, Bj, Raeanne, for you heartwarming thoughts. We got through this week ok, the first anniversary of Bill's death. I thought it would be harder than it was. I guess it was a blessing to be so preoccupied with other peoples problems...hard to feel too sorry for me!! Raeanne, I am so glad that you still like your box of goodies! How does that little water fountain work? Have you listened to those cds yet? HA HA!! I have the match to your black "worry stone" out in my garden and I think of you whenever I see it. DeeMarie, my daughter wants to know if you could make HER a Sopranos ornament!! I used the Greek seasoning in an eggplant/onion with Evoo casserole last night. Yumm! I love my Nora Jones CD. Very relaxing. Thanks again My computer froze up completely at the first of the week and had to be COMPLETELY rebuilt!! Okay, Raeanne... help me keep track here... 1) 1 week before Christmas the fridge breaks down. 2) next day the washer goes out and I replace them both. 3) 4 days before Christmas NEW fridge goes on the blink. Repairman fixes problem. 4) Christmas eve. the toaster oven goes to the great oven home center in the sky. 5) Jan 4th the dryer breaks down ( had it fixed) 6) Jan 11th favorite crock pot catches on fire ( short at the cord) 7) Last Monday, computer goes bye-bye.. Is it just ME or do any of you see a pattern here??? LOL!! Tomorrow it is back on the diet wagon.I have the menu planned as well as the exercise penciled in. Here's to all of us going through difficult times, those who are hurting and those of us who are just plain tired. Everything is easier with friends. I am thankful for you all. Sweet Dreams.... Hi Guys! DeeMarie~ WOW! Great progress---that feels so good, doesn't it? Gretchen: Your DEX is a real prize! I'm happy you're able to keep your sense of humor with him! NHSuzanne~ Your lunch sounds fun. I'd love to go to lunch with a couple of friends. Think I'll pick up the phone and do some work on that! QOD: 1st choice: DisneyWorld in Florida 2nd choice: Kauai, HI. 3rd choice: Chicago I wanna go where it's WARM! Had my doc check up today. He said things are progressing normally, but I have to slow down my activities for up to a year. BAH! I really wasn't pleased to hear that-lol. My bady has to rebuild some lymph cells, build some 'cord' (don't ask!) scar tissue, and relearn how to process fluid and purge it without fluid retention in my abs. I haven't mentioned it, but after I do some strenuous exercise, lifting, or just run around a lot, my abs swell to a tight and uncomfortable size. I usually hang back a lot the next day, wear the body strangulator they gave me after surgery, and the pain goes away. But I wanted to know how long this would go on. I ain't used to sittin' in a chair, unless it's the driver's seat! I was planning on getting some good hiking in while in Alaska this summer, but I'll have to take it one hike at a time and see how it goes. Everything looks like it's on track though. Did I mention I am spending the summer in Alaska? I am. We're moving there and 'trying it out' for the summer. I'm searching for rental houses and a way to get my rig up there without haivng a financial meltdown---lol. I love the weather today---sunny, and a little chilly. I'm gonna go move some wood out of my driveway---had a tree removed and the guys stacked the cordwood in front of my garage. Not to worry, though, I bought a hand truck from Lowe's Hardware, so it shouldn't take too much energy to move it, one log at a time---S-L-O-W. The whole project will probably take me till the weekend though, as there is QUITE the stack out there. Here's another CUTE site! Check out the ex-boyfriend pj's. Looks like we're all having a busy weekend! I'm happy to report my weight is shifting down - I've recovered from last weekend's visit with my pal and all that food. I've moved from 145 to 143/142ish. Quite happy with that. Slow and steady is my goal. I will stop losing when my body tells me to. I'm focusing on proper portions and healthier food choices. I figure I will settle on a weight when my food balances with my body. Anything around 130-135 is my goal to maintain. Anything lower than 128 I have to be careful because that is a teenager weight and not healthy for me at this age. Too easy to get sick and have little to help me recover from. Besides, I don't do 'thin' - I'm a curvy build and thin looks awful on me. Got there once in the military and everyone told me I looked gaunt. If I were born to be tall fine, but I'm not. My goal is to be able to garden without back spasms and be able to jolt up a couple of flights of stairs without losing my breath. Maintaining a healthy weight is the biggest challenge, not the weight loss. So I plan to be here for some time to come. We're off to the in-laws this weekend. DH's brother is moving back out west after a year of unsuccessfully seeking work in mapping. He's been working 'online' from his original job out west but since nothing has happened in this area he's moving back. He's been living in his parents basement for all this time - not funny. Time to go. I'll miss him but glad we had the time to know him better. Also going to drive a wee bit down a county road tomorrow to practice my driving. Looking forward to that too. I don't do highways because I am not comfortable making turns at higher speeds yet. Take care, I will try to get online this weekend. Cheers, Peggy

PULLED PORK 1 Pork Butt Roast (I cut into large cubes and defat as much as I can before cooking.) Rub down with your favorite spices. I use: Â½ T salt, 1 T paprika, 1 t. dry mustard, Â¼ t. ginger, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder and pepper to taste. (I put the cubes in a zip-loc bag, add the spices and shake.) Cook overnight in crock-pot. In the morning when it is still warm, you can shred with a knife and fork. The meat is so tender, the fat and bones just fall away. Mix with BBQ sauce of your choice. Here is an alternate rub, that can be made in quantity and used several times. Barbecue Rub: 1 cup chili powder 3 tablespoons paprika 3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh thyme (or 1 teaspoon dried) 2 tablespoons sea salt 2 tablespoons garlic powder 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper 2 tablespoons ground cumin 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Place all ingredients in a large bowl, whisk to combine. Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Makes 2 cups. NHSuzanne - I make my own BBQ sauce, but when in a pinch, I will use store bought. Can't remember what kind I buy, since I usually just make it. I do usually use the Pork Butt, but last time I went to Costco and bought a rolled roast and used that. I didn't have time to fool with defatting the pork butt and I was making large quantities for company. Some fat is good for flavor, but the health conscious part of me, just can't leave all that fat on the meat. I am making zucchini brownies to take camping (they put me in charge of dessert) and a banana cake. The brownies are in the oven and I am off to mix up the cake. I figured I got a vegetable and a fruit covered in the desserts! LOL Hope everyone has a great weekend. Marci

Good Morning!!

Deemarie your trip sounds fabulous. Can't wait to see the pics. I love Tennessee. It is so pretty.

Well, DH won another trip to Hawaii. We have our choice, Hawaii or Cancun?? I am almost picking Cancun. Not sure yet.

I need a weight loss plan that is going to work for me. I have exercised with the Firm for 6 months now and I am still at the same weight I started. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Tikanis, Dee, Donna, Jen - what the heck is going on around here?

Dee - I have only been to Tennessee once but it was great - we were in Knoxville and rented a cabin in the woods - the cabin was actually bigger and more modern than the house we lived it at the time LOL. I'm glad you had a good time and will be keeping tabs on your friend.

Donna - Thanks for checking in but we need more info LOL.

Tikanis - I sent you an email last night.

Jen - I have been to Hawaii (Maui) once and Cancun 4 times and would take Maui over Cancun, however the trip to Cancun is so much quicker. I think it really depends on where you stay in Cancun. The people are wonderful and the beach is gorgeous. Let me know if you have a hotel name, I may be able to give you some input on it. I have been going to the trainer since February and didn't start losing weight until I started Carb Addicts in July. I have lost 13.5 lbs and find it very easy. I was careful with what I ate most of the time before I started the diet (mostly SS), but my weight never budged. I don't know why this one works for me, it just does and it is an easy diet for me to live with.

We are ready to hear from the rest of you MIA.

WOW, it's a party!

Come on people.....check in. If you bought Halloween candy early and ate half a bag, we need to hear from you. If you called for a pizza and downed 4 slices, come here for forgiveness. If you ordered wine with dinner (Raeanne? Suzanne?), that's OK!

We are meeting friends for dinner at The Macaroni Grill to celebrate a birthday. (I did not pick this place!) Trouble on the horizon unless I get myself an online menu and decide on low fat items before we go.

QOD: What are your plans for the weekend?

We hope to work on the house and then go to the Jets/New England game on Sunday afternoon.

Well why didn't you say there was a party going on here?? LOL

Seriously, I can't believe how long I have been MIA. I am okay just busy.

I had a wonderful camping trip; in fact, it was enchanting. The field was covered with second cut red clover and the Monarch and some other small yellow butterfly were just everywhere in the field. It was truly beautiful to watch them dance in the sun. The moon was full and rose in a big orange ball each evening and then gave way to soft light through the light. The kind of light I could look out of my trailer and see the girls sleeping in the grass...........wonderful. The true topper this year was the performance of bluebirds who visited our camp in masses of 12-20 at a time. No kidding, I have never seen anything like it. They would come and sit on the horse fencing and sing and flirt. It was truly amazing........if only I could have gotten a photograph. They must be gathering for migration as the butterflies are.

The horses were energetic as it was cool and we had some wonderful miles long cantors and trots! It was so nice and I had so much fun.

The weekend almost ended in disaster as we were walking the horses down to the sandy brook for a cooling off Sweet Pea fell down and landed on her side. She was really struggling and I did not know what had happened or how to help her. Suddenly, she laid still and righted herself and got herself up. When she was safe investigated and she had fallen into a bottomless hole which was no doubt a woodchuck's hole. These are the holes that snap horses legs in two. I was almost nauseaous when I looked down into that hole. She had some swelling her fetlock but she was fine the next day. I shudder to think of what had happened if I had been riding her when that happened. Ugh, perish the thought!

Anyway, she was fine and the weekend was wonderful.

You all are right, it's very quiet here!! SO, where is everyone????

Not much else new here - just work, work, work.

DeeMarie, I am SO DISAPPOINTED that you don't have a photo of you on or at least NEAR a horse. You didn't even touch one????? Glad you had fun.

No Suzanne, I did not touch a horse, but I DID watch them from a window about 100 yards away....does that count? LMAO!!!!!

Good Evening All,

I am back from wedding bliss! The wedding was just wonderful. The weather could not have been more perfect and everything ran pretty smoothly. Ofcourse there were a few glitches, but anyone attending would not have known. It is such a let down now that it is over, like the day after Christmas, only worse. I will post some pictures when we get them back from the photographer, but I will try to post a picture here that I took of my DH and two DS at the house getting ready. They all looked so handsome that day.

I will post again later, but I just wanted to say hello and I have missed you all.
