Dee - Thanks for getting us started. Hope your projects go well this week.

Preschool is keeping me busy, but in a good way. I really like the new director and we work well together. I don't feel stressed out like I did the last two years. I also feel like I can retire and the school will be in good hands next year. I won't officially give notice until January, but I feel good about my decision.

My DH is in Florida with DS and DD. They went to the Steeler game in Tampa yesterday and I really wish I could have been there! :~(
But it was a great game and DD took lots of pictures and shared them on FB, so I felt like I was there in spirit if not in body.

NHSuzanne - My first issue of Everyday Food arrived on Saturday. Now that the cold weather is coming, there are several soups recipes that I am going to try. They all use roasted veggies.

Maddie - WTG on making Honor Roll!

Tikanas - Was it you who asked about a combination class of kindergarten and first graders? Most class rooms use centers to teach now so the students can be broken up according to ability and age. At that age, kids are all over the place in their abilities anyway and breaking down into centers allows the teacher to give them more indiviual attention. Of course a lot depends on class size and whether she is trying to do this without an aide.

Patti - Congrats on the TX house!! I am happy for you, as I know you miss Texas and being near family. How is Dave?

Good Morning. Hugs & Prayers to all who need them.

Marci~Dave is still struggling day by day. The problem is that only the people closest to him "see" it. My BFF, Nita, is the only other one who has seen it on a regular basis & knows what it is & is also aware of what is going on. He is rated at 100% but it is for his heart instead of for the PTSD. Probably TMI. Sorry.

Jen~I need your help. My 35th class reunion is going to be in July & Dave & I want to SS again. Isn't that what you are doing? I gave all those books away. Can you refresh me on what we need to do? Hopefully we still have some of the recipes. TIA

Milkdud or Chocolate Ecstacy or whatever your name is now ;)~ E-mail me & let me know how things are going. I know you aren't getting much time on the comp & I don't catch you much on FB anymore so I need to catch up on you. We will be in TX part of Nov & Dec. Perhaps we can get together during that time???

I hope everyone has a good week. I have a scrapbook page to do & I'm supposed to get together with a friend for sewing today. We shall see. Love each & every one of you.

BJ - how nice I stop by and see you shouting for me. You make me feel loved. I am crossing my fingers for you and the inspection on Monday. Suzanne - thanks for the email, it is nice to be missed. We had rain yesterday and this morning. Boy do we need it. Marita - of course you are welcome to join us. Welcome! Trekaren - I hope all works out with your eye issue. Keep us updated. McPeg - good to see you posting too. I was just about to post asking where you have been. Jan - droopy drawers - you are making us look bad. Congrats on your loss - you are an inspiration to me. Milkdud - you sound as busy as ever. Silversword - It is nice to be able to walk to the store especially in your beautiful CA weather. I am involved in an Adirondack Chair auction and although it is a lot of fun it has been consuming all my "free" time. I just hung all my paintings in my friends barn gallery and I am organizing our July sidewalk art show. The Chamber of Commerce has had meetings every week since I became a director and I am gearing up at work for the summer season, so that is where I have been. Our friends from FL just arrived and we will be doing dinner tonight and hopefully get a boat ride in at some point over the weekend, although the temps aren't suppose to go past the 60's. I will try not to be a stranger.

Oh wow! SO much is going on here! I can hardly catch up! Bj, I am so happy to hear about your Dad, first off. I LOVE miracles : ) I didn"t get any pics (sniff) I feel left out : ( ; ) Maddie, have you gotten your "unknowns" in Micro yet? Did you get to pick them yourself? I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours Ha ha! MARCI!! Way to go! Did you have too much fun, or what?? Now, ladies... the plan is for us all to kayak TOGETHER next time! Maybe George would come along and bring FRIENDS if he knew Maddie would be coming along! Marci, you look wonderful. Raeanne, I haven't read that book either yet... me next! Had to have an xray of left knee to clear me for duty on a project. EVERYONE (but me) was surprised to see that all the former severe tissue damage seems to have resolved itself, as this is UNHEARD of . "You know that this is usually crippling, do you not?" I just shrugged. All forms stamped "no pre existing diagnosis noted. Error in original MD assessment most likely." I think not.... ; ) I have so much catching up to do that I don't know where to start... Overwhelmed with work this summer. Not so much patient care, but getting all of this HORRIBLE paperwork digitized and semi-automated during the "slow season" HA! This project has taken up so much of the summer, but the end results will free me up to spend more time with patients and have a lot more free time. I owe my son, the great DIGITIZER a big thank-you as he goes off to UCLA in 2 weeks. I owe my daughter, oh she of meticulous documentation, a debt of gratitude for refining the process this summer. And from it all, she started a new business doing documentation for home health nurses. I owe everyone emails! Dee Marie, Mea culpa! I did NOT forget you! Have not had much time to enjoy the new kayak, but I will be out on the water again this Saturday (maybe Friday even!) found some great places... venice beach canals, near by son's girlfriend's new apt. I will be in NYC for a few days starting Oct 1st. and would love to see you East Coasters if possible. Any takers? I know that the city is far for some of you, but if anyone wants to come out, I could put you up with me for a nite or two?? just a thought... Raeanne, I am already penciled in for the Girlfriend's Getaway. Just need final dates. I guess I should just go look that up! :) BJ, I will be up your way in early April. I hope I didn't jinx myself for posting it here since I have at least 10Lbs to go.... I have 4 5LB bags of sugar on my counter to remind me of how much I have lost.......... Marci, I had no idea this child was so bad that she needed intervention. Wow, sorry you have had to deal with that but I am glad it's you because she might not get the care she needs otherwise. I hope things go well and I hope you get some rest this weekend. Losing sleep over it is not good for you. Are you able to do some yoga to help you unwind in the evening? Just a few minutes of breathing exercises and a few relaxing postures may help you sleep better. Try these breathing exercises: 2-to-1 breathing This breathing pattern relaxes the body by subtly stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, thereby inducing a state of relaxation. As you lie in bed, gently slow down the rate of exhalation until you exhale for twice as long as you inhale. You can coax a longer exhalation by contracting the abdomen slightly. Dont try to fill or empty or empty the lungs completely you are simply changing the rhythm of your breath. In the beginning it may help to count to six on the exhalation and three on the inhalation, or four on the exhalation and two on the inhalation (or any other 2-to 1 ratio you find comfortable). Focus on the smoothness and evenness of your breath, gradually eliminating any jerks and pauses. Counting Breaths Using the effortless 2-to-1 pattern described above, lie in bed and pay close attention to you breath. It should flow smoothly, evenly, and continuously. When the pattern is well established, take: * 8 breaths lying on your back * 16 breaths lying on your right side * 32 breaths lying on your left side Very few people complete this exercise. Sweet dreams! Try the 8 poses in the link below. I do the child's pose each night and it helps immensely. Raeanne, I know I can't do anything about it. Ommmmmmmmm but I want to find a comfortable place with her. I know it will all work out just the way it's supposed to! Beside, alot can happen in 9 months!! Maddie, you should try those breathing exercises and yoga poses too Sister! Night sounds very like very painful reading to me. Let us know how it is. I am glad you are writing the note.......it will help you go through the grieving process. BJ, thanks for your words of support. You sisters are all great! Besh, I know, I AM such a loser! Have you watched the Biggest Loser? IT's a great show. Today I am leaving at noon to go to the ride/drive that I host in my town of Hancock, NH for my driving club. It's going to be a splendid weekend which is great. Unfortunately, due to drought, the foliage is mediocre at best right now. Plus we haven't had a hard frost yet which is an essential ingredient to fall color. Sweet Pea will be styling as her cart is back from repair and actually looks brand new! It's much lighter than the old cart which we've had to use so she will be very happy with the lighter load. Hi all, Not sure what all to say since I've been away so long. At least you still remember me. :D Re the way of eating question. I've changed my way of eating at least several times in my life, this most recent being lower carb. I try to keep it under 75, but don't always succeed. If I go very low, my heart gets more irregular, which makes me concerned. I don't eat desserts or junk snacks and deny myself things I want, like muffins, but don't feel like I'm getting the results now that I should given my diligence. I've kept my calories lower than what I'm theoretically supposed to be eating for most of my life. I wish the whole thing worked for me like it's supposed to. My relationship with that guy I've talked about for the last three years is difficult for me now. I don't think anything really bad is happening, but the closeness we had has pretty much ended over this last year, so I'm going through a grieving process, facing that some things I thought would last, didn't. Lots of my old issues have come up and it's been harder than I expected. I've been working on my art still so that part is good. Still not over the top, though. My younger son is going to be doing seminars on open source tools for .NET, and his first one is tomorrow on NUnit. Still haven't heard from the older one for three years now, though I've sent things, called, and left messages. Heather is still good, and I just ordered her some kitty food from the net that is supposed to be a healthy mix that is close to what kitties eat in the wild. I'll post this and then read more. I've planted another garden with lettuce, tomatoes, parsley, zucchini, broccoli, green onions, cauliflower, and different types of flowers, including a purple hibiscus bush and a yellow one. It's a good time of year here. Does anyone know what the story is with Happyto? Haven't heard about her in some time. She was here when I first started and had lost 80 lbs, but then ended up gaining it back when she started eating carbs again. And I remember when her husband passed and she got involved in her church, but I don't know what happened after that. Amy

Good afternoon, everyone.

Things didn't work out for me in Dallas, and h asked me to come back and try again. I returned Friday evening, but spent all of Saturday in bed because of pain in my hip and knee. Yesterday, my youngest grandson and I had a quick photo session on their way out of town. I have a 1:30 appointment with my chiropractor today to see if he can help me.

Patti, congratulations on the house. That's really planning ahead!

Jan, sending healing thoughts and prayers for your dh and peace for you.

Good thing that happened with this summer's "adventure" is that I lost 25 lbs. Not the best way to lose it, but still..

Special thoughts and prayers to everyone who is having problems.

On a happy note, I had a great week-end with my daughter and son-in-law at their cottage. So good to be together and it is so beautiful looking out on the lake. The cottage is within good view of a Marina so there is lots of activity which is vey interesting too., but far enough away so that you don't hear a lot of noise.

I will be chcking back in on Wednesday but know that I ate more than I should have. Oh well, I'll try hard to get it off, if I gained. I did make sure I went for walks.

Dee, Oktoberfest in Smithville is this weekend. It's supposed to be sunny and mid 60's perfect weather! Let me know if you plan to go and I will email you my cell again. Also, if you do plan to go let me know and you can park in front of my house and walk over....much closer than half way up Route 9!

Hi Guys...

Well, I'm sorry I missed everything. I'll have to print, read, and catch up.

My Dad is STILL in the hospital - 30 days today. he's supposed to get out on Friday. He was disgnosed with a bone infection and colon cancer - they missed it on his last coloscopy last year. He will have a home care nurse and will be on IV drugs for at least 40 days. Next month, he will go in to have some of his colon removed. He's 83. What can I say? I'm heading to Alaska to visit him and my mom at the end of October. My Mom is probably getting exhausted but she stays in a good mood. Can you say it's gonna be c-c-c-c-c-cold at that time of year up there? I've got a 7-8 hours drive after I land, so I hope it's not too snow-y. My sister said it started snowing LAST WEEK!

I have lost a LITTLE weight as of late. I'm really motivated to lose more before the trip. I started mild weight training this week - every day - so I can at least lose my "bat wing" arms before I go on the trip, though there's NO WAY I'll be wearing a short-sleeved shirt!

I posted on the weigh in thread. I did lose 1 pound. I'm back on track now. would like to do better but too many outings lately. Birthday supper out wih my 2 chldren, last night. Yummy!!

Marci, wishing you a fun trip to the pumpkin farm. Fall is my favorite season, even though it doesn't exist down in SE Texas. I'm envious of you probably seeing autumn leaves.

Ivamae: HAPPY BELATED B-DAY! LOVE having you here!

...Ivamae- Did you ever hear from Harold, the weight-loss guy? When someone disappears off the diet forum, it always makes me think of the movie Chocolat, when the mayor ends up wallowing in the window of the chocolate shop....haha...just sayin'...!

Well, I started weighing myself in kilograms about a couple of weeks ago, and I love it! :-) The numbers are so much more friendly!

I get to do the dump run today. One thing about living remotely is duty of the garbage runs. The guys at the dump are really nice though and help me unload my trash. I wish I had less of it! The packaging really counts for A LOT...

Next year, I hope I use less stuff and eat more things out of a garden I WANT TO BUILD. I made a deer-resistant enclosure and have been letting the chickens run in there all summer - so it's fertile now! This weekend, I will go to the horse farm and get straw bays to put in there for the winter. Next spring, I'll put dirt on top of those and have a straw bale garden. Has anyone done this before? My friend's straw bale garden was SO successful! She had TONS of tomatoes.

TFIG!

Just got back from my regular (8-10 weeks) appointment with my doctor. I gained weight and he is not happy. He says I am reaching a dangerous level where I am approaching other illnesses besides the high blood pressure. He also told me NOT to go on a diet, but to seriously eat sensibly...eat what I want but portion control. He said "you know what is right". He is correct; I do know what is right. Finally getting back to exercise, as the shots for the bursitis in my foot are doing their magic, so now is the time.

If I behave myself and come here for support, I think I can do this.

BJ, I wrote down the recipe for that cauliflower and I'm going to make it tonight with a veggie burger for me, and a full fat one for DH. He has recently lost his entire gut by cutting out half of what he eats after dinner. He looks and feels great. I, on the other hand, have trouble getting up off the floor after picking up something I dropped. This is so unlike me...I need a kick in the butt,, BIG TIME!

Marci, so glad to see you are excited about work again.

Ivamae, congrats on your successes.

Patti, please stop by more often. We miss you. Give Dave a soft hug from me.

Well, I'm off to put a list of groceries together for the upcoming week. I took a vacation day to watch old movies and hang out on this rainy day.

This is one of those Rabbit, Rabbit days I love b/c it was my Granddaddy's birthday & is my niece's birthday. And Ms. Maddy will be having her birthday & anniversary on Tuesday so just saying HEADS UP for the party next week. She shares the special day with my youngest son. :)

I haven't been weighing in but I'm thinking the clothes are fitting a little bit looser. What WOE are most people doing here now? Are you mostly still doing WW? I know that it was quite successful for most when I discappeared a few months ago.

Jen~I'm still looking for you to help me with the SS if you have a chance.

BJ~So sorry to hear about your Dad. Cold is 60 degrees here. LOL I think Milkdud can empathize with me.

Dee~I told Dave & he thought it was so sweet of you to send him huggles. :)
