I'm FINALLY going to do it

I've been saying for the last 7 months (since my son was born) that I was going to lose the 25 extra pregnancy pounds. Well, I'm finally going to do it. I've had the WW kit for a while now. I stocked up on low points snacks and meals and am going to start being accountable. After last weekend, I'm ready. I'm not comfortable in a swimsuit anymore. My hubby and I have a deal...I work on losing weight and he works on gaining it! :) He's got a 28" waist...maybe. He's one of the thinnest guys I've seen around here...But it makes good of the AirForce Dress uniform ;) So he'll gain what I lose. I'm going to start meetings on Monday nights. I know a couple of other people who do/are going to do WW...One of which is very competitive. She had her son a month before I did and she works with my hubby. So a little competition will do me good. My hubby doesn't get paying someone to tell you to eat better...but I told him that if I pay for it I'll stick with it! :) Good Luck to everyone out there on their diets!

I was using a combination of the soaker hoses and 1/4" drip that had small holes. I had hoped that the vacuum on top would draw air bubbles up. When I tried to put holes in the bottles, they drained way too fast. It worked a little better with a rigid bottle. But there were still problems with controlling flow. I also tried having just a normal bottle with a couple pinholes in the bottom and trying to control flow by loosening the cap. I either got no flow once the bottle collapsed, or emptying a 2 liter bottle in a couple hours, when I was aiming for a couple days. If I tried this again, I would try using one large container, then find a better way to put a hose into it, and use a water timer. Then have all the individual containers fed by a single source. Probably a lot closer to Nancey's. But I'm thinking self-watering containers will be my plan for the future. I'll have to drag tons of water to the balcony anyways, but not having to figure out watering evenly will help.

Uh oh. I hope I haven't made a textbook newbie mistake for my climate. I don't know *why* I zeroed in on HPs but looking back on this list there are several in all the main focal points of my yard. Probably because I love the colors and the scents... but I REALLY want something to blooom blooom blooom and bloom some more from spring to fall. I *thought* HPs would do well in my climate (probably because I extrapolated the vigorous description of Grandmother's Hat) but then I just found a post where someone from Emeryville said that HPs are the worst rebloomers for the Bay Area. Yikes. Uh. Oh. I may need to go back to the drawing board in search of a (thornless) tea or china. Thanks for enduring my many questions. -k

Recommendation for landscape designer/contractor

I recently had a landscape design plan prepared by Tree House Studios. The owner is a landscape architect and the design was done professionally at a reasonable cost. I don't believe she actually does any install or hardscape work (we are doing the work ourselves) but I seem to recall that she can make those arrangements. Hello, been lurking a bit. Lots of good info here, thanks. FWIW, I agree that if the things you can't change are right and there is room in the price to do the rest ... thats a pretty good place to be. I knew the minute we walked into our current home, it would be ours, more than 20 yrs. ago. We had looked at a few dozen as I recall but the search was over when we got here. Since then we've added several investment props to the pile and since last fall have been looking for a new joint for us. Found an REO that is the only house of hundreds that can tick off every item on our list. Trying to convince the bank that they should stop holding on to it has been frustraiting, aggravating, stressfull etc. but now it is finally fun. They are offering counters in less than 24 hrs. and moving proposed closing dates up. Still not moving as much in price as they'll need to yet but it is vast improvement. Guess submitting the roofing bid and the well test did the trick :-) It kinda feels like I'm the lone bidder. Its got great bones and for us, a great loc. (acerage close to where we need to be). Its way more than we need but the lot, loc. and subdivision are pretty near perfect. Some minor damage from the eviction but I'm pricing that in and will order the full blown insp. once we have a deal. I was at the auction, I know the number ... they might get it but I'm thinkin not. There is a lot of inventory out there.

It does feel good to finally decide to do it! I've started off my morning with a WW blueberry muffin...pretty good, but not the best ever... and a bottle of water. I'll probably have another mini snack before lunch. I've never had to eat low fat or diet anything. Plus I've got to learn portion sizes and I'm cutting soda out...so this is going to take some getting used to! :)

WooHoo! I went to the gym yesterday for an hour of cardio. Today I went for 2 hours which included cardio, weights AND an abs class. It felt GOOD! :)

All the gym going hasn't made anything go yet! I'm trying to figure out what kind of diet I need. I'm thinking I may need something low carb. I think that's my downfall! I absolutely love carbs!

Are you doing WW Flex or Core? I found that Core works great for me because it helps break that carb-cycle. You can eat as much as you want --- but only on the core list. So no bread, limited potatoes and pasta.

I have been trying to lose weight on my own for 2 years -- I had dropped 20 lbs and couldn't lose any more. On core for 6 weeks -- I've lost 13 lbs.

You can do it -- talk to your WW leader for some advice and hit the message boards at weightwatchers.com. They will keep you motivated.
