Mntredux, did you get the faux Prada?

I saw your post got derailed! At the risk of the approbation of perfect strangers, I was one of the ones who liked the thread. Backpacks are big in my neighborhood.

I wanted to follow up and ask you about the modaqueen bag. Did you get it? Do you like it? How is the color?

Sorry for delay I just got back from vaca.

Yes, I did. I like it. I haven't seen a brown one anywhere else. The color is nice IMHO. They copy a lot of the details well. The biggest difference I see is an odd one, because presumably it would cost more to do it this way ...but the edges of the flaps are trimmed out in leather (?), whereas there is usually no trim. I think the real test will be how the buckles hold up, since I doubt they are real brass.

You have to love the price. This whole quest has kind of gotten me on a handbag kick. I returned to one with the too-delicate straps and got the Alexander Wang. But that one has a rather stiff structure, and one DD said it looks like I have a turtle shell ... Now that we are back home I need to decide on that one, too.

I picked up a cool purse on vacation at SCAD in Savannah (loved their shop) and will have to post that one! I also bought a really cute tote at my hair stylist's!

Nashville, did you get your Kate Spade bag yet? Do you like it?

Thanks. I don't think I'd want the leather trim, either. Does it show it on the web site?

Turtle shell is probably not the look you are going for. That is one of the issues I have with backpacks, they are not flattering to one's silhouette when worn as a backpack.

I have never heard of the SCAD brand handbags, do tell.

And weren't two people ordering the Kate Spade. Does anyone have it yet?

Today ,I go shopping for mac makeup with my best friend Lily. I like to buy mac cosmetic products and some delicious foods when I come back. I read the book last summer and LOVED it! At the time I had just graduated college and gotten my first "real job" as an assistant in NY city, so I was completely able to relate. The only thing I did not like about the book was the ending- but it WAS realistic, not a typical happily ever after story-book ending... so in a way it was good. I just saw the movie with my mom last night (who also read the book) and although we both enjoyed the movie, we were a little dissapointed. I expected it to be a different, but there are so many things they could've done better. First of all I CANNOT STAND Anne Hathaway!!! She's weird looking first of all, she was WAY too nerdy for this role, and she completely over-acts. I think she's painful to watch. The role of Andrea should've been played by someone more natural, funny/sarcastic, and she shoulve been kinda unmotivated at first- crashing on her friend's couch b/c she has no apartment, eating a lot, drinking, smoking, sleeping til noon- still in college mentality...the way she's portrayed in the book. I think Kate Hudson would've been a good choice. She's a little too mature for the role, but if this movie came out 4 or 5 years ago, she would be it. Anne Hathaway was just HORRIBLE. She was too flimsy and jittery and not funny AT ALL. Ugh she's such a bad actress. Meryl Streep however is a brilliant actress. Anything she does is great! However, the role was definitely written too nice. The character of Miranda in the book didnt have conversations with Andrea, she simply just ordered her around. She was meaner and showed no emotion. Whoever said they made her too human was right... I know however for the movie they want to show more of a relationship between her and Andrea, but the writers could've made her just a tad meaner. And my final complaint is the lack of build up with her outside-work relationships. Lily in the book gradually became an alcoholic, hooking up with shady guys in bars b/c she was neglected by her over-working friend. In the movie she had 4 lines and no personality. Also they made the boyfriend so DULL in the movie. Plus I wasn't feeling their relationship AT ALL. They looked unnatural together. Other than all that, it was a cute movie. I just think they could've made it SO much better. "That's all"

Howdy, I'm Babs. I must confess to being a long time lurker and feel very guilty for easedropping on your conversations for years without introducing myself. I feel like I know all of you and I've learned a lot over the years. Mea culpa for waiting so long. Although I agree with IdaClaire and others about the bizarreness of many of the current RH furniture offerings, I'd like to share an RH experience. In 2004 DH and I moved into a new home and needed a lot of furniture. Between budget and time constraints, we focused primarily on RH, PB and C&B offerings. We were looking at Parsons chairs for the dining room and the quality of the RH chairs far exceeded both the PB and C&B chairs even though the price was not that much higher. The chairs arrived and were lovely. But I miscalculated the size of the chairs vs. the size of my table and ordered 6 chairs rather than 8. So I ordered 2 more. The 2 new chairs arrived and they are clearly not like the others - lighter in weight, the upholstery is not as nice and more like the PB chairs in quality. It turned out that RH had changed the manufacturer from Mitchell + Gold to someone else and I was not informed of this when I placed the second order. Long story short, the RH customer service people were great. I ended up working with one of the national customer service reps who gave me her personal cell number (I know because one time I called I could hear her kids playing in the pool in the background) and gave me daily updates on her efforts to find 2 more of the Mitchell + Gold chairs in my fabric choice for me. She finally went to Mitchell + Gold and asked them to make 2 chairs for me even though the RH contract was over. I thought that this was above-and-beyond quality service. We also purchased an RH (Mitchell + Gold) sofa in 2004 that is in remarkably good condition in spite of the heavy use it receives. So, even though it's highly unlikely that I'll buy furniture from RH again, I've got to say that I was pretty impressed by old RH purchases and service.

Just how naked a rose is likely to be in winter is variable. Part will depend on parentage but mostly it will be climate/location and the current weather conditions. Here, most roses never fully lose their foliage in winter. In fact, other than a reluctance to produce any flower buds in winter, the plants themselves look pretty similar most of the year. No, the foliage in January doesn't look as good as it does in June but it is present! I would think yours are still holding on to leaves because of local weather conditions. And those could change and cause the leaves to drop.

SCAD is Savannah College of Art and Design. They have a shop that sells things made by the students.

The SCAD area of Savannah is very vibrant. Did you enjoy your trip? If I remember correctly, the weather was iffy. Hope it was worthwhile.

The bag is pictured accurately on their site. I have never seen a genuine Prada in brown, so I suppose i can't compare 100%.

As noted below, SCAD is art school with great shops AND a website too. My family loved the shop and we did some serious damage there, but it feels like a "good cause" in a way.

My bag fits none of my criteria. It's not a backpack. It is fragile (white). It has no outside pockets. It is heavy when empty. It is hard to open and close. But, it looks good doing it! Here is my bag:

Note, it is not made by a student. This woman graduated in 2006 IIRC and was already in WWD and J Crew. None of which I knew when I fell for the bag. One of their shticks is that each bag is a numbered limited edition run. (see cool video on the link)

Thanks for asking. Seems everywhere we went people were saying "oh, it's about 10 degrees cooler than normal". Yeah, we noticed! Not too much rain but less sun then we'd have liked.

Still we had a great trip and finished our "southeast sampler". We found a reason to enjoy all 7 spots. Favorite was, hands down, Cumberland Island. But we also enjoyed the plantations in New Orleans, architecture in SC, mountains of NC, Monticello, and the Riverwalk in San Antonio (which we biked, apparently illegally, OOPS).

The link you posted is not actually to the shop. I posted that below. I am looking at the bag like yours in blue; can't decide between that and the duffel with the red stripe. But I did order this one, since I really need an ipad case.

We have a wedding in Charleston in early May. I am trying decide where to spend a few days after; Charleston or Savannah? Anyone? I guess I should start a separate post.
