how do you hide elec. cord when mounting lcd tv to wall?

We want to mount out 15" LCD TV to the wall in our kitchen. It will be mounted at eye level so we may watch while sitting at a peninsula.

We understand how we can run the cable wire through the wall and hide that, but what do we do with the electric cord? It has this 3"x4" "box" attached to the cord. I know we cant bury that in the wall. It's very obtrusive. I'm sure others have come across this situation, so any suggestion would be helpful.

Use what is known as a clock receptacle behind the TV. It is reccessed and allows the TV to be plugged in without a bulge from the plug.

The LCD series use an external power supply similar to laptops. The recessed wall clock outlet is a great idea. If there is clearance behind the set with the wall mount brackets, you can hide the supply back there tied up with velcro or tywraps. If there isn't, you may want to install a full recessed box to stow the supply, outlet, and cable entry. It all depends on how handy you are.

Thanks for the reply mwkbear.I agree with you about the viewing angle and I have ordered a mounting bracket that will tilt and swivel.I wanted the LCD because we really wanted to keep the size of the screen smaller than the larger plasma tv's.We are going to use a 22 in screen just so we can sit out on the porch and watch golf or Nascar or whatever but we didn't want a tv cart or any wires snaking across the floor.I hope we will be able to see the picture since my wife said the guys just installed the cable and electric. I guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks when we mount the LCD.

OK...so i am going to try continue this thread after..umm...4.5 years! From above post: "you can chop some grout out between the bricks and put your wires in there and re-grout with cement over that". I would like to know if this is feasible in my case since it might be the way to go for me. I have 7ft wide and 0.5 ft deep stone wall (rough surface) running from floor all the way to ceiling (high; 14ft or so). It appears there is an inch or two of concrete connecting the stones and the wall behind it. The goal is the same - put a tv on this wall above the fireplace. Doing the wiring by removing one of the stones and running electrical behind the tv is surely the best way, but the labor charges are above what i want to spend. So that brings to the question: Since there is a mantle which leaves only ~3inches of stone exposed (and hence the cable if i run it down behind the tv and behind the mantle) I have only 3inches cable exposed from front view and ~6inches from side view (depth of stone is 6in). Do you think i can remove some of the mortar mix in between the stones, run the extension cord cable + hdmi + cat5 through the groove, put a duct tape and cover it with matching (hopefully) mortar mix? Is it also possible to remove a little bit of that cement (vertically connecting the stones with the wall behind) and do the same concealing patchwork to run the wire down? Let's see if anyone picks my ques

Thanks beekeeper, that gives me some other ideas. That particular style doesn't blend with my decor but it certainly is a more affordable alternative. A few posts down, someone gave a link to how you can build a frame for the tv which also sounded interesting. She suggests adding a canvas to the front to hide the tv itself, which I like, but there has to be a better way than having to remove the canvas each time you watch tv. I know Candice had some type of roller device, which I would like to research further. The main reason I don't want to use a "pop-up" mechanism is that I want the surface of the console underneath to be available for decorating vignettes - especially during the holidays. Wonderful kitchen!! And I have serious DeskAreaInKitchen-Envy. *insert pout icon here* Last year we looked high and low for a silver-framed TV for my Mom. Just wanted a little one so that she could watch TV in her little eat-in kitchen area while she pays bills, etc. None to be found. Someone offered us an almost new, 9" white, color portable, not flat screen, not LCD....just an older model TV. We took it. I found an iron shelf that fits it like a glove. At first, that glaring white TV stood out like a sore thumb in that darker corner of the kitchen. Only in my mind.....because nobody else saw the thing as sticking out like a sore thumb. Like hubby told me, it is what it is...it's a TV. No need trying to pretend it's something else or isn't there. So, longer story a bit shorter.....only took maybe a month to adjust because now, I don't even know it's there. I think if you get a black frame TV, just make sure it's thin enough not to stick out too far. Some stick out as far as 11 inches....not so 'flat panel' huh? lol Heck, if I had a desk area like yours, I don't care if I ended up with a hot pink TV.....it would go on the wall, right where you want yours to go. :)

Please tell me more about these "full recessed outlets". I'm trying to hide a cord of an electronic dart board and the clock outlets do not seem deep enough.

Build a small pocket back into teh wall and place a receptacle in the pocket. Place whatever equipment you need in the pocket.
Watch out for heat.

You might also want to consider a recessed outlet kit (see link below). These kits take any decora outlet (110v or low-voltage such as coax cables) and make them recessed.

They also have a cover you can use that you can drill a hole through for your cable and make a very clean look. We used them in our home theater and they look great.
