Okaaaayyyy...... If I run HDMI, I would also want the Cat5 for the IR (since the TVs would be on different levels of the house). If I did HDMI over Cat6, I'd probably also need another line for IR in that case too, plus expensive "converters". Does (can) the Cat 5 run along with the HDMI cable? Where would you have them located in relation to each other? If I use HDMI for the main HDTV where the cable box/DVR will be located, I can't then use the component output at all for other TVs--I would have to split and use HDMI, right? It's one or the other signal? Thanks! I'm meeting the LV guy at the house tomorrow to mark what I want and where. Maybe a few more questions: I think we'll use TWC telephone, but I only see the need for 1 actual phone location, the rest will be "satellites" of this. This will be Cat5, right--and you just plug the plug the phone into it? If there are other Cat5s run for computer, do we need to differentiate these (from that used as phone line)? Okay, while I still like the idea of PLEX giving me PC connection to my WiFi - thus to my TV via Roku, I tested my Notebook (Toshiba Windows 7) connections to my existing 24" LED HDTV. When connected between the VGA 15 pin (I think) connectors and picking "RGB" for my input channel on the HDTV my computer display came up very nicely. Of course I have to get audio separately, Then I tried the HDMI connection and found after some difficulty W7 and/or Toshiba will support only two displays - thus with the Notebook screen on and my VGA desk LED display on the HDTV shows a "no signal" for the HDMI. I didn't test to see if the setup would support HDMI and Desktop Displayl (Notebook top closed). I then, after some problems with some long winded W7 updates finally rebooted the Notebook and disconnected the VGA connection. The HDTV picture and Sound come up on the HDMI input - all worked great. Happily I had a 10' HDMI cable on hand - a spare one. This will work, but I need to replace the old living room SDTV or get PLEX working - better get both. I am now looking at at 28" Sansui that is sale priced. It has three HDMI inputs, great, one could go to the Roku, one for the hanging cable for connection to my Notebook W7, and Laptop W8, and still have a spare HDMI which could go to an updated Cable Set Top. And there is still a VGA, I'll likely not use. . My existing SDTV is a 27", and so the 28" LED HDTV has a longer diagonal (really 27.5") but due to the 16:9 aspect ration has a few less square inches of screen, which affects only signals with the older TV aspect ration, whatever that is. Interested in any view/questions.

Keep in mind that you have other options. For example, you can have a wired or wireless devise such as the iTV from Apple (it does not have to be the one made by Apple; I am giving you and example). With such a devise you can send to the TV anything you can see and listen to in you computer, from music to movies, family photos, Internet music, etc.. The TV is connected to the stereo system you may have, hopefully one connected via a HDMI cable. You can do all this wireless (from the computer to the TV), or wired with CAT6 cables. Just look at all the options you may have before you commit to one thing.

The PC IN input you referred to is most likely a "15 pin D-Sub", "VGA" or whatever you want to call it, it takes a standard PC monitor cable. Your computer will almost certainly have one of those. If not, then it should have either DVI or HDMI. I added a link below to a DVI->HDMI adapter that will work with any of the myriad of DVI ports that you might have. Once you have that, any HDMI cable will do. I'd recommend getting either the DVI or VGA cables at www.monoprice.com, they're good quality cables and the prices can't be beaten.
