It's been a long time since I started a thread!

It's a nice, sunny day in NJ and I am off today. We picked up the "girls" in Delaware on Friday morning and they are so sweet. They are skittish but on the whole doing well. They love sitting in the bay window in the family room. We have named them Misty and Callie...they are bright and catch on quickly. They get groomed next Saturday and I will post pics then.

Suzanne, how is SP doing?

I see that several of you have lost weight and congratulations on that!

I'm starting AGAIN today. I have no choice now as my doc has put me on Lipitor and said I have to change my way of eating. I pigged out this weekend and begin, for real, now.

Hopefully with things settling down I will be around more. I have to catch up with everyone.

Good Morning!!

Donna, congrats on your "girls"! I REALLY want a dog! Our neighbor will be breeding his chocolate lab this fall and I am planning to get a puppy then. Ok, so you have to start again... we have all been there and you can count on our support. Tell us your plan so that we can help..

Maddie, any cooking fiascos this weekend? Will you be in school over the summer or will you take a much needed break?

I believe I'll take your collective advice and enjoy my day & have a great week! : )

Happy Saturday!!! Yes I'm seed planting now - but in different ways. I cannot plant until after the last frost day - normally in Ontario Canada it's the 3rd weekend in May. Right now I am starting some stuff to grow indoors - even a few tomato plants. I have ample south facing windows. Some of my veggies are to share with friends too. Things like some of my slow growing flowers - lavender - I like to start a huge tray indoors. Since the onion seeds are from big onions, I'd be lucking in spring to have small bulbs from the seeds. The herbs will eventually go outside. My next venture is using water jugs I saved from the summer to do 'Winter Sowing' - had lots of success with that over the years everywhere I lived. Trudi who started it all now has her own website and has moved on but left terrific FAQs at GW. My other focus for this week is challenging others to tackle a box a day to declutter (it's on the KT). Makes this unpacking a little more fun. Misery loves company! LOL. Last night we had friends over for dinner and cards. We had a riot. I had waaaaay too much fun. Let myself go too much but mentally it was all worth it. Haven't laughed like that in some time. Besides laughter burns energy. I'm carrying on today. Did not get my cook ahead done because DH and I spent the afternoon giving this place a good cleaning over (felt fantastic afterwards). My new friend Catherine last night mentioned a nearby town (she lives just outside) is starting a quilt club. She's interested and so am I. We're going to check that out. While we go quilting our boys will enjoy male bonding. I'm getting more social activity in the country than I had living in the city. You can take a bus in the city to a shopping venue or park but that's not socializing. This is better than prozac! Besides I have a ton of quilting magazines I might find good homes for. So lets really get out there an enjoy this weekend. My continued love and support to all of use - my arms are open for sharing hugs. Whew! Dee~I didn't think I was going to get in in time to wish you a Happy Birthday on here either. I didn't realize that others were having the same problem. I had been reading on here today though. I hope you enjoyed your day. NH Suzanne~I am pretty sure I know what the sign means. Milkdud~Good to see you are still staying busy. Tikanis~Not 100% about the dating thing but I didn't read exactly what you are doing except on this page. My sis is about to marry someone she met on one of those & I'm very leary of him. My DBIL & DSIL met on one & they have been married a couple of years. Not certain how that is going either. Seems fine except for one thing. They are living in 2 different parts of the world. For the next 3 years I guess??? Marci~Good to see you here. I knew you would be here today. Maddie~Good to see you here too. Donna~I'd love to see your pics. Wodka~Glad to see you are doing so well too. Raeanne~Will have to catch up with all of you soon. I am still doing lots of quilting. Making lots of purses right now. It is great practice before tackling the big project of a quilt. Everyone will be leaving for back north soon. I really dread it again this year. We moved in December & love, love, love our new location even though it wasn't far at all. The neighbors are much friendlier. Hi Everyone! I'm glad to report I stuck to my plan last night - only had one light beer and one fake beer and 2 med slices of pizza. Drank a huge glass of water too. Ending this week I'm still ahead having 20 bonus point left for the week. I've almost recovered on the scales from last weekend - tomorrow is my weigh day. Planning ahead is worth it. No, I did not get all of the snow moved. I can now see out 1/2 the window. With the temps warming this week, I will be throwing more snow on the drive to melt and will continue to do so until I can get through my patio gate to the back door and clear the front window snow bank. I can only do so much and have to wait for the snow to melt before I can toss some more. It's good exercise and fresh air - so I don't mind. Waiting for my swimsuits to arrive in the post (ebay) - going to start playing in the pool at the nearby sports center. Planning on walking there one way and probably busing back now that the sidewalks have been clear. Any water activity really has helped me in the past tone up and get rid of flab. It's also a treat for me. Dodi, I've only been through your area once on our holiday driving down to Boston area - beautiful is an understatement! I can understand why you drive to town to do your walking! Raeanne what were you working on? I'm going to check out August Rush on the internet. We watch movies at home so I may have to wait. Where is Lake George? Besh do you have any other children? They grow up so fast. Marci what is on the agenda for next week - any time for yourself in there? Milkdud would you please send some of your heat my way? I wanna garden so bad it's driving me nuts. I can smell the snow melting. Yes, it has a particular smell. How is Aubrey today? DeeMarie - what type of work do you do? Are you still feeling refreshed from your holiday? I loved working on projects in my career - I'm an administrative junkie at heart. Patti congrats on your weight loss too - trying to find your post on it but I keep getting lost! Can you update me please! After rereading the posts - I think my crock pot is getting hauled out today. I can't believe I see so many of them in charity shops all the time. There was a smaller one available last week and a bunch of tall mason jars which I'm thinking of returning on Monday to pick up. I have a craving for lima beans and crock pots do them justice. QOD: What was your first childhood toy that you claimed as your 'buddy? Mine was a stuffed, butt ugly monkey. I traded a toy tractor with my foster brother for it. We were moving from Ontario to Manitoba. My foster brother needed special care that was not available in the military camp we moved to. It broke our hearts to part with Brian. I was so creative I called him Monkey. Monkey had many surgeries in his life, many baths and finally disintegrated in my late 20's to the point of no return - may Monkey rest in peace. Let's make today count! It's sunny -3' and going to a balmy +2'C (34'F). Might have to do some snow tossing! Cheers, Peggy

Hi everyone! We've had a horrific storm system blow through yesterday. Got cedar boards outside for the garden - watched those fly by literally like matchsticks in the breeze. A few are now in trees. Listened to our new home roof creak in the wind - very unnerving. It was about 100km/hr all over parts of Ontario yesterday. The strongest wind I've felt since leaving Scotland (winter was gale force winds normally Jan-Feb). Been really focused with my usual - plants. Seedlings, seeds and plants. Did I mention my plants? Somehow managed to cook meals, clean the house and do laundry in between. Like most areas this spring - too frigging cold to do the normal plantings of cool weather crops. Haven't been doing too bad in the food department. Trying to remind myself everyday to drink water more, coffee/tea less. Actually picked up some generic orange juice (can't afford $5.00 per carton and up. Barely afford coffee but we've given up so much with soaring food prices there is a limit. Cooking better meals again. And still maintaining my weight in the healthy range - overall pretty happy with the efforts of the last 5 years. I'm the turtle in the race. Every winter focused on smaller goals and then maintenance until next winter. My success so far has been applying a gradual weight loss and making healthier habits lifestyle. And now - The Royal Wedding I woke up at 7am EST and caught the event live just as Will & Kate were returning from the church. My goodness she chose a beautiful gown - very classy. I couldn't help but smile the whole time watching and they kissed twice! So happy. The queen was even caught smiling a lot. Kate sure has a beautiful family. Her sister looked smashing too. They look in love. I wish them a bright future. I'm looking forward to the pitter patter of little feet too. Such a wonderful day. I popped onto the thread with newbie Cathy8091 - I'm hoping to coax her into joining our Merry Band! If you see her thread - please feel free to jump across and welcome her. We all need support and this is such a big family with big hearts! Have a fantastic day everyone. Good Tuesday all,

Donna, congrats on your new babies! When I saw you started the thread I knew you had good news!

Sweet Pea is doing well. She is over the worst (fingers crossed) but it will be a long time (months) before she is sound enough to ride. Maybe all summer... Still she is bright and lovely and not in so much pain. She is such a good soul.

Tikanis, I used to have black Labradors. When I had to put my Jack down 20 years ago it broke my heart and I have not owned a dog since. People think it's weird that I have so many animals and no dog! They are one great breed of dog if they are well bred.

Okay, where is everyone now? I am missing you all. Check in please. Are we losing everyone to Facebook or something?

Mornin' Glories!

Hurray for Sweet Pea! I am so happy to hear how she is improving! Suzanne, I grew up with Labs and I love them. I haven't had a dog in a long while either, and am really looking forward to it.

I am working in my office this morning. I'll see three patients later, then have some business related errands to run.

It's a beautiful sunny day here, about 65* out there now. Let's all just play hooky! : )

Donna - How exciting for you and your new babies. They are lucky to have found you. I put an envelope in the mail to you yesterday, it may arrive a day late :(

Suzanne - I drove past some playful horses this morning and thought of SP. Glad to hear she is doing so much better.

Tikanis - Sure, pick my day off to play hooky LOL.

Not much happening here. I did start a BIG painting today - the canvas is 48"x36" - that is my largest to date. It barely fits in my car LOL. No plans for this weekend, but next weekend we go to NJ to celebrate my MIL's 90th. DD#1 is flying in from San Diego for it.

I hope all the MIA's are up to something fun.

Hi all!

Donna, I must have missed your post about adopting your new furbabies, and I'm so sorry! What breed are they, and where did you get them from? I'd love to have a dog but with 3 cats and school, I'm afraid that I wouldn't have the time to properly take care of one. Someone in the neighborhood has a huge Golden, and (s)he is just gorgeous. I swear that I'm going to dognap it for an afternoon just so I can hug on it. Nothing like a dog hug! :)

Suzanne, I'm so very glad that SP is doing better!

Tikanis, no, I'm a glutton for punishment, and am taking an anatomy this summer. 4 nights a week for 2 hours for 8 weeks. With a prof with a rep for a mean streak. I must be insane. Must be. There's no other reason for it. We're deep into muscle tissue right now, and I'm having lots o' fun with A lines, and M lines, and, and, and.... :)

Things are good here, though. MIL is holding up better then I thought, or would have ever given credit too. She has her very bad days, and I avoid her at all costs then, but so far, so good. I've held my tongue until I think we're going steady (:)), and have developed a habit of (ahem) not "hearing" things, but other than that, things are well.

We're getting the garden ready for planting in a couple of weeks, and I'm looking forward to that as a finals stress break. We're growing the plants from seeds again, and this year seems to be better than last year; I wish DFIL was here to see how good his son does. I think he'd be proud.

Gotta go--have stats staring me in the face, and it's not pretty!

Maddie - I like to think of you as eccentric not insane LOL. Glad MIL is handling things better than anticipated.

I am planning a small vegetable garden this summer. I haven't done that in years and am excited about it.

For those interested in Food, Inc. - There will a documentary on PBS tonight, I think at 8. I have my DVR set and after watching it I may make my garden a bit bigger. It was unclear to me if it is movie that is out or a documentary on the movie or something else. I didn't have time to look into it. But it should be good.

I wish I could share my tomato plants with you all!! I have 85 Heirloom plants with most of them looking for homes! I tried ten different varieties this year. Praying that we don't get late blight again this year. After watching Food Inc, more than garden size will change in your life. Powerful.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I had a package in the mail from Raeanne - adorable cocktail napkins with some cute "broads" on it saying "when it comes to dieting, remember one simple rule....if you can't lose it, decorate it." She also sent me a beautiful card and some tokens for your pocket which everyone should have..a heart for love, a peace sign for hope, an acorn for long and healthy life, an angel to watch over you and the world because in the future it's in your hands. The little sack is in my bag right now! Thank you my wonderful friend! I hope you do make it to the Jersey shore - I'm waiting for you!

Maddie, I adopted 2 female Bichon Frise from a rescue. The girls are 4 years old and are puppy mill moms rescued from an Amish mill 6 months ago in Lancaster, PA. Their foster family was wonderful and, while they have far to go in their socialization skills, brought them incredibly far. They are sweet, good and housebroken. All they need is TLC and patience. We're searching for a good trainer who can help us help them without traumatizing them. I love this breed - I had my Lacey, who I lost last July, for 15 1/2 years. They are being groomed on Saturday and I will post pics after that.

I am definitely going to have to watch Food, Inc. I would love to have a garden or even an herb garden but the critters around here would eat everything. Right now we are battling moles.

Getting my act together to head to my mom's house for dinner.

I've been MIA this week because I've been concentrating on healthy eating and lots of working out. I've got my mojo back, and it feels so good! This morning, I made Dr. Oz's turbo-charged weight-loss soup. I must have burned a few calories just chopping all the veggies it required! lol
