Brother PE 150 Once and For All

Hi all. I've just found this helpful forum, and want to open a can of worms here. I have a Brother PE150 embroidery machine. I know for a fact that Simplicity cards can be used. Does anyone know if White cards can also be used? What other cards definitely fit? I understand the format is PES. Can the Amazing Box or Magic Box be used with the PE150? Let's discuss this machine "ad nauseum," as I want to FINALLY clear up misconceptions. Thanks, and I'm happy to be here. ~~Pat

yes white cards fit this machine I use to have a list but my computer crashed and I lost all my files.There are several that fit this machine I have one.Magic box I was told you can't use with pe-150 The Ulitmate box you can and simplicity box you can.I am not sure about the Amazing box
What do you want to clear up misconceptions????????What misconceptions?

You can use a Magic box with a PE-150...I know, I have one and use it. I also got software with it that will convert .art files to just about any format.

hello let me guess you are using corel drawings. the best tip you will get this year is to not save your designs in pes format in any other software other than pe design made by brother. The code is not right you will find errors like not cutting correctly. I use all diferent kinds of digi software and like you i have a pr600 mk2. If you want to get your design right always save it as a dst file, the pr600 can open it all you need to do is reasign the colours, or if you have pe design import your dst file into that then save the file as pes. One more tip when you use drawings don't save the file in drawings, instead export the file to the modular editor which comes free with corel drawings. In there you can fine tune the pattern expecially the sew sequence as drawings makes a right pig of it. Also you will find in there that drawings has put some weird sequenses in, just select them and delete them, then when you happy save the file from modular as a dst file. Only save the draw extension in drawings so you can go back and tweak your pattern later on if need be. If anybody reads this the pes file was developed by brother who have not disclosed all the code, so any other program will not save it correctly, trust me i know about this ive been diging now for many years and what i have said above will make a big difference to your final pattern. one last tip when you use drawings when it askes for the material you are using pick the standard option as it drops the thread count down because it don't use as strong an undelay

I have an ellageo3 and am getting nothing but the run around from Babylock. Embroidery does not stitch lettering consistantly and the tension slips...they refuse to discuss this as a problem. Hello???? At this point I would not recommend this one to anyone. I have asked for the repair ticket from the factory to see what they did to it while at the factory...and so far haven't seen that. I even get one of those when I take my car in to the dealership !!

So sorry to hear of people's problems with their PE 150. I have had one for 5 years and actually I just finished embroidering 30 jackets for a non profit group. I experienced some of your problems early on. Here are some solutions I found 1)My threader wasn't working and I got out the magnifier- The threader that goes through the needle was bent. I straightened it gently with tweezer and it has worked every since 2) Thread balling up in bobbin- well i bought a better grade of thread no more cheap stuff ( I use gutterman and have used coats etc all work great) the cheap stuff really did a number on the bobbins. I also have used the prewounds and find them nice. I really pay attention to make sure that the bobbin is threaded evenly- I really think that this was the trick. A few times I used the embroidery thread top and bottom for a special project- I had to keep my eye on it. I did catch it balling as well but only once. 3) Thread breaking - I found 2 problems a) the thread spool holder- it always created a problem I bought a thread stand and have not had any problems at all b) I always thread my machine and then pull the thread out about a foot to see that it glides nicely. Sometimes I notice a pull and when I rethread it is fine so I bet I did not have it through the track properly. 4) I download a lot of patterns and one was really awful I stopped the machine. It was actually the pattern!! 5) Stabilize. No short cuts and it is really worth it in the end. My t shirts were a nightmare until I learned to stabilize them properly and I also made use of the stitch density - that was the trick in heavily threaded design areas. 6) Needles- I buy good quality needles and I change them every 2 hours. Boy it really makes a difference and if you are embroidering lots you can hear the difference. Hope this helps someone that is having trouble. Hope you can soon enjoy your machine. I am pleased and bought ped basic as well as using embird to create and recreate patterns.

I bought a reconditioned PE 150 also. I too believe you don't have enough stabilizer. I also have an Iris machine and have taken a couple classes. One thing said, you can't over stabilize. I just did a denim shirt that came out perfect and had 3 laysers of stabilizer underneath and one water soluble on top. The shirt turned out beautiful. I made sure the piece touching the skin on the underneath was a softer one.

Perhaps "misconceptions" is the wrong term. "Opinions" instead of "facts" might be a better choice. I spoke with a very helpful salesperson at my local JoAnn's yesterday. She confirmed that White cards fit the Brother PE 150. That made me quite happy, since I have just won four White cards on an eBay Auction. I think I'm leaning towards the Ultimate Box as opposed to the Magic or Amazing box.

The White and any other PES based manufactured cards go directly in the machine, work the machine menus to pick your design, edit and sew it out.

Your ultimate box will save you loads of money and shortly pay for itself because you can download the freebies and transfer it to the box card, and then insert that card in your machine.

As you may be finding out, the manufactured cards can get expensive with only a few designs per card. I have a few and started looking at each design element on a card to find what can be combined to give a new design. I think I even found a few using the machine's alphabet.

Stitchntime9 and redpenny ... thanks for all the helpful info. I've had the machine for a couple years, and haven't really used it to its potential. My interest is starting to peak again, and this time, it just may go "over the top." I'm a crafter, and always looking for new things to offer my customers. Thanks. ~~Pat

msmeow - Thanks so much. I'm heading for the Ultimate Box as soon as the wallet will allow. It seems to be cheaper than the Amazing or Magic Box. I do appreciate all the positive responses. Will these boxes Magic, Amazing and the others fit ALL of Brothers embroidery/sewing machines? I have no clue what all that is........I am trying to learn a few things about this because I want to buy me an embroidery/sewing machine. I need a sewing machine as well so I was just going to get both in one machine. I've been sewing for years but never did the embroidery yet.
What is a ATA card and will it work on a brother? Also which one of the Brother embroid/sewing machines has the larger hoop area?

I have a Brother PE150. I use the Ultimate Box. The machine takes a PES format.

Ok I have read and learned a few things and found out what the format meant. There are several machines that have this PES format. I like the Brother machines and it seems like their accessories aren't as high as some of the others. Am I wrong about that?

I am a new owner of the SE270D from walmart. I also got the PED basic from walmart. The only bad things so far seem to be: 1) 4 inch field, which I knew from the start, I'm learning to rehoop. 2) gotta get a program that will convert files to .pes (not a big deal, but have found a couple so far I want!) 3) have to find a program that will allow me to resize a design so that it will fit on my hoop!
So, that's it so far, wanna have some fun, get some varigated thread! It's like a whole new world! LOL

Hi I just bought a PED Basic for my brother PE-150 embroidery machine and the darn basic keeps on saying that I have an old original card and I need a new original card. What can I do and what is an new original card and will it fit my machine. I love my machine but the ped basic I bought so I could download patterns on the internet. This is driving me crazy
