Dishes smell 'fishy' after dishwasher
Comments (363)I agree that the smelly problem is also connected with the outdoor air; however, I must also add that the problem can't be totally connected to food/enzymes in the detergent because, when we lived in Nashville, TN - we remodeled our main bathroom and put in a nice, new window so we could open it and get some fresh air...we couldn't even open our old one. Once the remodeling was finished, the first time we used our shower and opened the window, the bathroom started smelling like a old FISH - there was no food in our bathroom. So...our assumption after that was the outside air mixing with the WATER was causing this smelly "fish" problem. When we moved to Maryland...we were visiting our son and he gave us some water in glasses...opened his windows and BAM there was the smelly fish problem again when I picked up the glass to take a drink! Our theory is that there is something being added to the whole country's water supply that is causing this problem once the water comes in contact with the outside air. We currently live in a condo where we don't get much outside air because we have a lobby and we don't open our windows....and we are about 90% free of fishy smell!! I say 90% because the other 10% IS fishy smell which only comes when it is extremely WINDY outside which means the air is coming through our windows and the 1 door we have to our patio. Plus, when it is windy, I put a folded up paper towel on top of my glass of water and that keeps the fish smell out of my glass!...See Morea-fishy, a-fishy, a-fishy-fish...
Comments (33)Oh, all is forgiven, flyleft. I was joshing anyway, although I'd gladly forgo that particular event if not having kids meant I could - not my idea of entertainment! *chuckle* The joys of fibrobrain and pain meds and too little sleep... I just glanced back at the bit above where I said I wished the mammo tech had just taken the relevant parts off to do their thing with them and the King Missile song "Detachable P&n!s" popped into my head, although it was playing in my head as "Detachable B**bies". (Had to look that up, for some reason I thought it was Primus. Not quite my taste in music but I used to work with some chefs who played really weird stuff in the kitchen during prep time. They introduced me to They Might Be Giants - we always played "Minimum Wage" from the "Flood" album just before we opened for the day, synching turning the door key to the whipcrack - so I forgave them a lot.)...See MoreStrange Smells II
Comments (10)Yes, crackers (the high fat, flaky kind) go rancid really fast. And stale, but it's the rancid that stinks. It's hard to know if you can really get the smell out. I've heard that it makes a molecular bond with the plastic, but I don't know if that's true. What I do know for sure is that if you air it out, you might not smell it, but if you close it back up and then open it a few days later, the odor may have a chance to concentrate if it's still there, and stink again. So do seal it up to test it after you do whatever you're trying....See MoreFishy-Smelling Edible?
Comments (1)Some sort of Chenopodium. Basically mostly weeds but edible ones. One species gives us Quinoa, but that isn't the one in your picture....See Moredappachicken
