is this recipe for real or a joke..?

There is an e-mail cake recipe going around that sounds ?? cute:

'Add a box of any flavor cake mix, & add a box of Angel Food cake mix (& ONLY Angel Food mix!)in a big zip-loc baggie & mix WELL! Store mix on a shelf.

To make an individual portion of cake, add 3 tablespoons of the mix to 2 tablespoons of water; mix well & pour into a microwavable dish & microwave 1 minute.'

Now both(& most) boxes of cake mix call for eggs or oil, etc. to be added but they are not added to the above individual recipe so was wondering how it would turn out...? Is this recipe just a joke or is it legitimate?! Anyone tried it?

Not even a good joke - maybe if they had said Easy Bake oven, but a microwave will boil away 2 tbsp of water in much less than a minute. Generally, a cup of water comes to boil in 1.5 minutes, and so 2/3 cup of water would boil in 1 minute.

I seldom use the MW, but this recipe comes nowhere close to being real. Don't try it unless you want a burnt mess.

I agree, it sounds absolutely terrible. I don't much care for cake mix cakes anyway, but that sounds particularly awful with no butter or eggs or anything good.

Well I am sort of amazed that the recipe states that it makes "about" 5 pints since the bulk of the other items cook down to almost nothing. I am equally amazed that you need 1 cup of lemon juice, so that means you basically got 1/3 cup of juice per jar!!! No thanks for me. I'd rather freeze a less acidic type of salsa than to use that much lemon juice with my tomatillos cause they are tart enough for me as is. I understand why they add that much lemon juice... I don't know about you...but I prefer larger batches recipes if they can be had anymore.

Ginger, you know I don't usually come over here, I hardly ever even lurk! But, somehow I did tonight and saw your post about Marlen. It really is bittersweet, I just made "Marlen's Bacon Pull Apart Bread" over the weekend and my cousin asked for the recipe and I mentioned it on the C/F the other day. Isn't it funny/unreal/wonderful how somebody who you NEVER met can touch you in a special way? (I know that you have met Marlen, but I guess I mean me!) I first got to know her on another Recipe Exchange and then found her over here. She was special, she had some extra bright light.

Blonde Cook Book (joke)

Blonde jokes will never be as funny as the real thing. For example: Discussing compass directions with a young brunette receptionist who wanted to know which way her home faced & didn't have a clue. I explained that if she knew which way was East, she could figure it out. I got a blank stare so I asked her which side the sun came up on. Her answer: "The left". The office fax machine was set up so that after inputting a long distance telephone #, each user had to press a 'PAUSE' button before inputting his/her personal code for billing purposes, then 'ENTER'. The instructions were spelled out directly above the machine. At least 3 salespeople complained that they couldn't get their faxes through so the staff would walk them through it. When they got to 'PAUSE', that's what they did - they'd stop & stare at the machine for a few minutes before proceeding! None of these were blonde & all were making mid-6 figure incomes. You can't make this stuff up!

i think the Angel Food Cake mix would contain enough powdered egg whites to make the mix work.

Maybe, ML, I had a Weight Watcher's recipe that just called for a can of pineapple with the juice and an angelfood cake mix, but it tasted like pineapple, at least.

With just water I can't imagine the flavor or texture.

Yes, the recipe said to be sure it was an Angel Food cake mix as one of the cake mixes because it then had the eggs, etc. already in the mix.... yet even those boxes said to add eggs, oil, etc.

OK, I DID try it & actually it wasn't TOO bad!!! I tripled the recipe though ( 9 T. mix & 6 T. water)& I guess as a novelty it would pass & easy to keep on hand! What won't people think up?! Think the grandkids would have fun doing this!

I am shocked that that worked!! Anything I've done like that in the MV has burned or turned to stone. I'll have to make sure that my sister never hears about this.
