Bev, you absolutely MUST go to the Butterfly Gardening forum. There is a lady on the forum (probably several), but one I know of for sure, who is a teacher, and is very active on the forum. If you tell them you are looking for seeds for a butterfly garden, you will absolutely be inundated. They LOVE to give and are so wonderful and joyous about sharing their love of butterflies and moths. Every question you or your friend has will be promptly answered. They are the most wonderful people I have ever met on the forums. They would almost have to be, to love and want to preserve some of our most beautiful creatures, wouldn't they? They will be so thrilled to help out. Please tell them that I sent you over there, and let them know why you're there. Tdogmom is one of the members, she is the teacher, and will have so many suggestions and ideas to help your friend out. This is so exciting. I love to hook people up with our butterfly group! I may even have some extra seeds they sent me for sure. Someone just sent me extra hairy indigo seeds, which is a host plant for the marine blue butterflies. I just checked the USGS website "Butterflies of North America". They have a map you can click on for your state, and it will list the butterflies that have been reported in your state by county. This butterfly, the Marine blue, has been reported in Texas, and it looks like possibly in the Lubbock area. Anyway, please go to the Butterfly Gardening forum and request seeds and info for your friend. They don't have an exchange yet, but tons of people will offer to send you some. I had a copy of Canning for Dummies but GoodWilled it a while back. I didn't have an issue with the book as such; I just had too many books (still do, LOL) and that focused so much on the basics it wasn't particularly useful to me. IIRC, that book relies heavily upon USDA and BBB standards. I just did a search "inside the book" on Amazon. All appears pretty much as I remembered, safety-oriented and conventional. Such methods as oven canning and steam canning are prohibited, steam pressure canners must be used for low-acid product, altitude adjustments are provided for pressure canning, etc. etc. One remark which stands out is that canning is not the place for "recipe innovation." Careful measurement is critical. All very good and appropriate advice. I would guess that the instructors chose the book as less dry and more "approachable" than the BBB. On that count I think they're right. My one concern is that the book was published in 2003. That's 8 years (allowing for at least a year to write and come to publication), and I doubt it's up-to-date on such changes as the wait time at the end of the boiling water bath and pressure canning cycles. I do think you will find 99% of the information reliable and beneficial in terms of demonstration; hopefully the instructor has kept with changes from the last years. I really think a lot of it has to do with the instructor's credentials and commitment to staying up-to-date. Keep an eye out and if you hear/read anything which seems at odds with what you remember from this site, post and ask. Also keep the NCHFP bookmarked as a favorite and check it frequently to verify anything doubtful. I would always check the NCHFP site for processing times. Being online, it's generally ahead of print on the latest. One good test would be to see if the course instructor can provide the NCHFP URL without looking it up, LOL. I hope this helps. Carol

You can use some regular felt on some things. It has a lot of differnt fairies, which are very pretty. It also has a lot of other dolls. The dolls are sized from 1 1/2" 2 12/" 3" 3 1/2" and 4" is the tallest. They have men, ladies, and children dolls. They have Hansel, Gretel, and a witch doll. They have a Royal Family -- king, queen, prince, princess knight, jester, and a wizard. They also have a Harvest Folk group -- shown on a page with fall pumpkin houses(not included in book) parents, boy, girl, mother & baby, older kids. They have a page called the Driftwood Clan -- shows a rustic house (plans not in book) shows all differnt size dolls -- boys, girls, parents, babies, twins, pirate -- 17 dolls on that page. Also has a page of felt pins --all are appliqued & beaded - the shapes are round, oval, hearts, 1 shows a small fairy on a fall leaf -12 in all. Another page has small felt appliqued purses(looks more like wallets_ 8 styles. Another page has felt appliqued checkbook holder and cellphone cover. Another page has felt appliqued Balsam Pillows - 3 designs. Another page has a 3D look felt appliqued picture -- size says 8" x 11" -- has 2 color border - house on hill with tree & leaves, sky -- bottom half is rectangle garden with flowers, boy, girl, dog, bottom has 3 fall leaves. Last page has a square 7" x 7" picture -- main color & then border color - 6 differnet fall leaves, center leaf has a fall fairy on the leaf sleeping. I hope theat helped answer your question. I love this book and think it was worth the price I paid for it. My family loved the fairies. They had not saw them before. Linda
