Mine's in medium bark in a plastic pot w/ thick sphag on top because it dries out fast. This spring, the new bark will have sphag mixed in. I don't remember a scent, but they're supposed to have one, right? A question - some of my leaves have a few small black spots on them. An experienced grower here said they were normal and not to worry. Now the buds have what look like the same kind of spots. Does yours do this? (I can post pix in another thread, if that would help.) I know exactly what you are talking about and can even picture it in my mind. As I remember, the legs were 2 X 4's attached to a larger piece of wood for the body and the head was cut out of wood and painted. Smaller blocks of wood were nailed to the ends of the two 2 X 4 legs to fit into the shoes, which were then nailed on from the bottom of the shoes up into those little blocks.

The elves are generally purchased. Those elves have been around since I was a kid, and I'm in my mid-fifties. I you wanted to make one, perhaps the Magic Threads patterns would be a place to start.
