If they are just small scraps, you can also put them in strategic places for birds to find in late winter. I included a link to another thread (ha) on the subject. It's quite a treat to find a nest with scraps of your latest project in it! Of course, natural fibers are best, but others can also work as long as they don't degrade into long, nonbiodegradeable string that can injure or kill a chick. I had a similar situation and the fabricator said they don't charge for remnants, only for labor. Therefore, when we get our bathroom remodel underway I am going to check their stock of remnants and they only will charge for the labor to fabricate it. I know another fabricator that does the same thing. I think it is because the original slab has already been paid for by the first customer. When there is a remnant, they dont need to make money off of the stone, but just the labor. I hope this is the same for your fabricator.

Hi there, cejay! I am in Florida - but don't know what area you are in. I am in the Ft Myers Beach area. I make charity quilts for a children's hospital. Last year I focussd on preemies and made eleven. This year I want to make more for older kids. Char, the pattern is called Barn Dance, but it doesn't indicate the name of the block. It's really simple. I bought the pattern more to support my local quilt shop (along with a $38 Lemoyne Star ruler). The center and four corner squares of the block are cut at 3 1/2" square. The squares that "snowball" the inside corner of the corner squares are cut at 2 1/2". The strips are cut 1 1/2" wide and then strip pieced and cut at 3 1/2" wide. I'll bet Sharon can come up with the name of the block. She's really good at that.
