Doll hair for Time Out Babies

I made an angel "time out doll" that is praying instead of being in time out. She turned out really nice except for the hair. Unlike most time out dolls that have hats or bonnets to cover most of the head, she will have all hair with a halo resting on it. My question is, how should I attatch the hair to the fabric head? If I arrange the hair in a hairstyle and use glue will that work without stiffening the head too much? I thought about using spray adhesive but didn't know how it would adhere to fabric.I bought the large sized doll hair that does not come with a scalp and for now it's just pinned on. Any suggestions as to how to attatch the hair would be greatly appreciated.

My sis in law uses invisible thread. She just finds a starting point & starts sewing it on. I have never tried it myself. I start at the bottom of the head & work from one side to the other using my glue gun. Move up an inch or so & start gluing again. I do pretty well until it comes to framing the face or making bangs. Then it takes me FOREVER to get it to look like I want it to. Hope this helps.

I also sew the layers on down the seam, then arrange as wanted and use some hot glue, her is a sample of my dolls with their different doo's.

Thanks for all kind comments & good wishes...I am getting better...tomorrow will be day 7 of the antivirus med & dr gave me 3 wks worth of pain meds...the way I understand this "shingles" stuff is that when splotches/blisters heal up that you still have nerve pain for awhile. Well, it is so much better & I thank you for your caring words. My dr.'s won't give me the shot as I have a weird chronic disease & don't know what triggers it...so they would rather not (which is ok by me)...but hoping no more shingles! Quite painful...I thought I had muscle/shoulder blade problems from too much fun outside gardening! LOL! Not talking to Babydoll now...so don't worry about that issue either. Love finding her dishes for the seasons! My Mother would be proud that I am dressing & playing with my inheritance doll! :-) Happy Memorial Day! Jeanne S.

Hi. I just found this forum....it's great! I'm looking for dollmakers/restorers to see if the real hair I have lots of is suitable for their craft. I am not a Business. I have inherited these hair items from my Mother In Law, who was a hairdresser. They are in my Vintage shop, (although they are not vintage, but new, and unused,) along with Vintage items, also inherited. If this link is against the rules here, please forgive me. I just need to find someone who could use them. I certainly will not trash them out for the landfill! The first link is human hair plugs, in many colors. donnajean, I make the bodies all from cloth ..no wood at all, and I add the hair a few strands at a time to make it look more real.. the girl dolls dresses I make also to make sure they fit properly.. the little boys I use thriftstore finds.. I have sold over 50 of these dolls and I still get orders. I have stopped making them for a while.. as I was getting burned out.. I did how ever make one special one for a lady to have a little boy doll look like her little boy and she wanted to give to her mother.. the little guy had bright red hair.. it turned out really cute.. I have seen the ones with the wood and some with just the suffing in a pair of PJs but they do not look or hold up like mine do.. I am trying to figure out how to post the pattern on line as soon as I can I will post the web site here.. glad you enjoyed my dolls, they were like part of the family at times.. LOL

I used Lion Brands Homespun, it comes in many different colors.

You can also buy acrylic hair at a wig shop that is not costly and it is really nice especially for the larger dolls. Go to a wig shop and check them out...You won't be sorry.

Wigs are a good ideal. I've done it before. You can find wigs at yard sales or thrift stores for a resonable price. If you get the right size you can't tell it's a wig especially on the larger dolls.
