Comments (3)The granite surround look is very trendy right now. If you don't like shiny, ask your designer about honed granite or unpolished stone. I would match the floor with whatever look you are doing on the surround, either slab or tile. You might like travertine or Jerusalem stone both are light neutrals. They have stove spray paint in black if you want to try that to cover the brass. You can order custom fit screens for a tight fit....See MoreHelp with Mantle and Fireplace
Comments (10)Another vote to say that your home, hearth and mantel are really pretty and very elegant! :) I do like the candleholders -- just move one of them to the middle of the mantel -- and move the wonderful turkeys around them. As for the mirror -- it does really suit the room -- perhaps if you hung an empty silvered picture frame on the glass (make sure that the back of the frame is painted too) -- maybe from a ribbon from the top of the moldings? That picture frame would create a focal point on the mirror to draw the eye. Love the cauldron too! Perhaps fill it with a small holiday tree for the season OR simply pinecones OR folded throws for the room. Add a small family gallery photo wall around your desk area -- have family photos re-done in black and white -- mat them simply in white and frame them in white or silver....See Morehelp with my big old fireplace wall - style my mantle!! noon
Comments (21)The rug is from wayfair - 100 Percent wool and super soft!! But it was like having a house full of 10 white cats, oh my!! It’s much better now after about 6 months but for awhile I had to vacuum constantly. It’s worth it though for the price. I have a wool rug in our more formal Living room from a design store that costs over 3,000 and didn’t shed at all like this, but you get what you pay for and the quality of still very nice aside from initial shedding....See MoreHelp with Linear Fireplace Mantle
Comments (6)I don't have a picture but the red brick on my fireplace goes to the ceiling. We have a vaulted ceiling in the family room and the bricks extends pretty far out from the fire box so it is the statement in that room. I've considered dry walling over the brick that's above the mantel, but I've had several people tell me that they don't think it will look right, that the brick is what makes it interesting. It definitely is a more rustic look than having drywall, so I think it depends on what kind of look you want. In my case, the red makes finding paint colors a bit more challenging. I love Karen Rose's fireplace wall with the white brick. I prefer a chunkier mantel. And I like the fact that you're not putting the tv over it (my tv is to the right of my fireplace too). I like when there is minimal decor on the mantel too, like a vase with sprigs on one side and either a couple of candles or a photo on the other....See Morebrickeyee
