I figured heat stressed plants could benefit from it, that's why I got it. On searching the web the most I found was people who got not much result. Some quicker root growth on grasses and a few orchid growers that were believers was the best I could find. People who grow pot seem to use it a lot over here. They also use it for stressed plants. (growing pot is our national illegal hobby) I guess it won't hurt my broms if I use it, or do I have to be carefull with this stuff? Since they are still new plants I'd wait until the soil has really warmed up before planting them outside. Remember that the air temps are going to be warmer then the soil early on. I'm a zone warmer then you so I'd likely wait until mid to late May to plant them outside by you. I'd also just sink the pots instead of planting them directly in the ground. It will make lifting them in the fall so much easier. You can sink a small pot, no need to use a large container. I seal up the bottom drainage holes and cut several new holes into the sides of the pot about halfway up. This allows you to just use a sharp spade to sever the roots that have grown outside the pot when you lift it in the fall. Glad to hear that your cuttings have done well.

Zands, I agree that its not necessary to "Pug" any or all mango trees. I think "pugging" is only suggested for people that want to try and grow their trees "short and wide" trying to achive a shorter trunk...as opposed to letting nature take its course and letting the tree grow naturally. Pugging is best for people that grow in pots/containers or if they have a small yard and want to maintain a more Dwarf tree for easy protection from freeze and if the trees are short...an added bonus is much easier to pick the fruits. If you notice Harry's tree, it has a much taller trunk than what a "pugged" tree would have. But, it is definitely not necessary to "pug" mango trees at all. They will branch out on their own regardless if you pugged it or not. Main difference is it will grow much taller and will reach its maximum height. I pug mine basically because I want to keep my trees small and short so its easier to take care of.

If you folks living in the northern tier states feel somewhat deprived of Vitamin D via sunlight ... how about the Canadians on the prairies above you? Nestled here among four of the Great Lakes, I'm a substantial bit below you - some say that we're even with northern Calif ... that'd sort of make CA rather like CA, no? Hi Matti5, Do you know someone who lives in an area where they grow flax, whom you'd like to visit? Visit a farmer in the area while you're there and buy some raw flax, which won't be costly. The person who rents my brother's farm in Saskatchewan grows flax, and when I go out there I get about a bushel, for which he refuses payment ... ... and I grind my own in the blender. I add it to cooked porridge, in the breadmaker, etc. I suspect that it helps keep my hair shiny (the little of it that's left). ole joyfuelled ... with some addition from ground flax (I've heard that the unground stuff just says, "Hi!" on the way in ... ... and "Bye" on the way out .... ... and hasn't left much useful behind on the trip through). I'd like to try to find someone who can vouch for the validity of that claim. Too bad the ex-, the dietitian, has been gone for a while (but we didn't talk much, for 35 years or so). o j
