Comments (10)Very Interesting News for EVERYONE. I just got a call from the Benjamin Moore store that sells the paint to the painter. Apparently BM just came out with a new version of Moorgard and Moorlife that has a LIFETIME warranty like Duration. The best part is the price does NOT change. Just like Duration the product is thicker and uses some new technology. I hate to be the guinea pig but a life time warranty for exterior paint sounds appealing. The only catch is the warranty is available only on the Exterior paint line. Apparently they didn't upgrade the interior paints. That will probably come later. The new model number is N105 and N103. The additional (N) in the part number is the important part. That specifies that the base is the new concentrated mix that comes with the lifetime warranty. If anyone else familiar with this? Thx Big Tex More Info: http://benjaminmoore.com/wrapper_pg3.asp?L=prod&K=xprods&N=prodext&groupid=8&productid=255#article Here is a link that might be useful: New Lifetime Warranty for Benjamin Moore!!!!...See MoreSmoke Smell in My House (Where There's Smoke, There's Fire!)
Comments (18)The recurring theme here is that people call the non-emergency line and then are surprised when the fire department shows up with all their trucks anyway. But there is a good reason for this: People are frequently embarrassed to call the fire department and tend to minimize the problem when reporting it ("Oh, it's just a small fire on my stove that I can't quite get to go out; no real problem other than I can't breath right now"). By the time the fire truck rolls in a few minutes later, it turns out this was in fact a real problem and needed all the gear and tools that the firefighters have access to on their trucks. If the caller only reports the smell of smoke, it's quite possible there is nothing much to worry about. There also is the possibility that the moment somebody investigates and opens the door to where the fire has been smoldering for hours, air rushes in an a major fire starts within seconds. At that point, you really don't want to wait another 10 minutes for the trucks to roll in. You need them right then and there. I don't know about all jurisdictions. But in most cases that I am familiar with, the fire department will happily come out to you and investigate, even if it turns out to be "nothing". And you shouldn't get charged for it. But there always could be exceptions. Also, if they subsequently call an ambulance, that's when you might see charges....See MorePainter pressure washed house exterior today
Comments (9)No, I didn't discuss clean up with him before hand. He's painted my house a couple times over the past 30+ years, so he's no stranger, and he always washes down the house first and scrapes where needed. I just didn't expect this much of a mess this time. Guess the old paint was really loose or he had the pressure washer on full blast. Like I said, maybe he was coming back to clean up, but he should have called if that was the plan. Getting it off the dirt is going to be the tough part. I tried a little, and it didn't come up very easily. Plus it was wet. Thank goodness the one side of the garage that faces my flower garden with the stone courtyard has Va.Creeper covering it so can't be painted or I would have had a heck of a mess on that stone! Then later this afternoon it poured rain here, suppose to rain tomorrow night too. He waited this late in the season to start the job, hope it wasn't a mistake. First Spring was too wet, then summer too hot. But he's been a painter for years and years, he ought to know what he's doing. Let's hope for an "Indian Summer". I remember when I bought my house in 1978, it hadn't been painted for a very long time, was grey and weathered. He used a lot of caulk! ha Then in subsequent years, mainly the Western and Southern sides of the house would need painting most, so I had him re-paint those. The rest of the house always looked pretty good, he uses an oil based primer....See MoreKaren15
