Yikes, Oakleyok! I'd heard that our snow-wind-sleet-hail storm hit you all next. That was a bad one . . . again! Do you have your heat still? With DH being from Oklahoma and DS having been at OU for the past 6 years, I'm very familiar with how bad your weather can get. It's those darn ice storms that are the worst, though. Luckily we didn't lose our power, except for yesterday for a few hours when they were working on a transformer.

I was wondering if you got this storm. Our dirt roads are finally starting to melt so I plan on getting out tomorrow. Yay!

Wow! That is amazing! Your fire looks cozy and warm though! Here in Puget Sound we just had our warmest January on record. It is 53 today and my Rhoadies are so confused; they are blooming! Usually mine bloom the end of April- first of May.

That's early for Rhoadies! I wonder why they bloomed so early?

We had two road graders come down our road just now, so this means I can get to the store tomorrow before the next storm comes on Wednesday night!

This is funny, we were supposed to lose power with the ice storm, and we once lost power for 21 days, hence the new fireplace. Anyway, I went to the store and stocked up on all kinds of snack foods. One thing I bought was a can of cheese, the kind that you "spray" onto a cracker. I also bought some Townhouse crackers. My dh turned his nose up at it and wouldn't touch the stuff. Finally I made a cracer for him and he got addicted! lol.

I forget how good that stuff is, especially on celery. Perfect when the electricity goes out. :)

UG! please, PLEASE keep that stuff there by you! Don't want none of it here!!! LOL. Those are pretty pics, and it's a good thing you like staying home so much. We are cold here, but no snow or ice. Thank goodness! I've over this el nino weather.

Dh & I went to a snow sculpture festival this weekend.

That is beautiful! People who do that are so talented.

Tina, where do you live? We're getting another round of snow tonight and tomorrow, and a bigger storm on Sunday and Monday.

Went to the store and stocked up this morning. We've had thick freezing fog for 4 nights now.

I've got a new book and some snacks, so I'm all settled in. lol

LOL, Tennessee - remember? We have pretty mild winters, but the el nino pattern has really changed things this past year. Thankfully, it also changed our summer drought, so I supposed I shouldn't complain!

That's the bad thing about bad weather and being homebound - it makes me want to eat (snack), and that's not a good thing. LOL

I like being at home, but knowing I can't get out and about drives me up the wall!

It looks like you got hit with a bad one, but then again, here in the NE (mid New York State) we're pretty used to adverse weather conditions ;o) I remember in 1996 we had to have our driveway backhoed out because we had 2 snow storms within a week and had almost 5 feet of snow. Getting up and down the driveway felt like we were on a luge course LOL.

I have to say that your furry buddies look mighty comfy and warm. Your dog is adorable with a capital A. What kind is he?

Her name is Duchess, she's a 13 yr. old Boston Terrier.

5 ft. of snow? Good grief, that puts us to shame! They finally graded the ice off our dirt road yesterday morning, they don't melt as fast as paved roads do. This was the type of ice I fell on a few years ago and hit my head, so bad that my life literally "passed before my eyes." lol It's true, when you think you're dying, your life passes before you. It was an amazing experience, but the Goose egg hurt. :)

Ooops! My sincerest apologies. I should have recognized that Duchess is a girl ;o( She's a real cutie.

Very cool photos, especially the chain link fence. Snow - new snow - can make anything look pretty.

Graywings, the fence was amazing! I was letting the dogs out at night with the patio light shining on it (that's a dog fence because of my English Pointer, and it's high enough to keep Coyotes out), and saw the snow on it and knew that was the only time I could take a picture because it'd be knocked off soon.

I framed it and put it in the living room. lol.

Duchess is starting to come down with doggie dementia. I hate saying this but she's driving me nuts! She keeps pottying on the new runner which is wool and silk. Thankfully she stays away from the large Persian! She does it a couple of times a week, no matter how often we let her out to go potty. Oh well, she's still my baby. :)

oakley, it's incredible - the weather you've been getting. We expect it up here in the northeast, but I thought places south of the Mason-Dixon line weren't supposed to get winter.

tina, I love those snow sculptures. DS1 always says that he's going out to build a Calvin & Hobbes style snow carnage sculpture, but usually builds a fort which then stays long after the rest of the snow has melted.

Ignore the candycane Christmas lights. Here in upstate NY, we have to wait until a big melt to take the lights down. They get iced over under layers of snow melt and there's no way to remove them until a big thaw.

oakley ~ We have a 13 yo pug, Tootie (maybe 14...we adopted her). She has diabetes, is partially blind and deaf and has "issues" with occasionally tinkling in the house. She seems to do it on the small mat near the sliding doors, but once in a while she would do it on the W2W carpet in the den/office. We've started keeping the doors closed to the rooms that have carpeting...if she tinkles on a throw rug we wash it. Sometimes the texture or smell triggers the urge to tinkle so maybe it's something in the rug that she's reponding to. When Tootie was first diagnosed with diabetes we had discovered that she had tinkled on our wool area rug. For some reason she chose that particular rug. We ended up having it professionally cleaned and sanitized and she hasn't gone on that rug since. Maybe it's the wool smell? Just a thought. BTW, even though Tootie drives us crazy, we love her to death and think of her as our baby. I can definitely relate ;o)

I love that fort! Brings back many memories. It snowed overnight but it was wet and melted. Sunday night we may get another whopper of a storm. It must be El Nino like someone above said. Usually it only snows about 2 or 3 times a winter, we've had two major storms in a month, with a 3rd coming this weekend.

Mrsmarv, I don't know if it's the wool smell or not because the Persian is all wool. We have two large runners and those are the ones she goes to. I may spray some Febreeze on it lightly to see if that will keep her away.

When I leave the house for more than a couple of hours I roll up all the rugs so she'll do her thing somewhere else. One time she got up on a rolled rug and did it. Sometimes I think she does it on purpose to anger me. lol

I would be careful with the Febreeze. There have been rumors of problems in using it around animals. Can you gate her in a bathroom or maybe your laundry room, etc. when you are gone? Have you talked to your vet about this? I wonder if you used *puppy pads* if she would use those? There is some reason she is using certain rugs, if you could figure out why, you might could clear things up.

Msmarv - TOOTIE! I love that name. We have friends with a teen daugher - tootie has always been their nickname for her.

Your winter snowy photos are gorgeous and idyllic....Oakleyok, can I come over to your house and sit and stitch in front of your warm and cozy fireplace with your Boston Terrier? My husband grew up with a BT and says they sometimes shiver and like to snuggle with a warm body....

I think I figured out why Duchess potties on those two spots. The new sitting room is part of our old living room. The hallway is the same. She would tinkle in both spots before the remodel,but we had w-w carpeting in there too. Now it's all wood floor except for the runners. And the new room, well, she won't touch it.

I think she's simply using her "old" spots because of the runners that are there. She was really hard to potty train years ago, and has always been obstinate. lol.
