What does your craft room/area look like ?

Since the board is kinda slow - I thought I'd take my annual survey about where you do your crafting. I have a spare bedroom that is now my craft room . It's 4 walls with a path going through it. Somewhere in there is another computer ... I remember having to operate the mouse on a stack of craft magazines ! LOL I also have a phone in there - it's funny to watch me scramble when it rings - digging through all the craft stuff that 'accidentally' got piled on top of it to answer it.

Thank Goodness for shelves.

The closet is no man's land. I'd suggest wearing a hard hat if you open the door - something is Bound to come crashing out on you.

I used to have 2 windows in the room ,too.

On sunny days I can see a slight glow coming from behind the stack of Stuff in front of the window. At least I can tell when it's sunny out ! I vowed I would not block my other window - and I didn't. Right in front of the window is clear - the piles of stuff start about 2 feet back from it. I Need 3 foot long arms to open the window. *sigh*

I Have an actual workspace of about 2 square feet. LOL

Now tell me about yours !!!!

PS - my kitchen table also doubles as a craft table once in a while .... since my craft room is so SMALL ..... ROFL !

Mine is clear! I think if I hadn't ended up in the hospital last year, Got out the day before X-mas

It would be full!
but my kids thought I was going to die and got rid of a lot!
I have two bedrooms down here and two up stairs which I don't go up there.
My bowling ball i am working on is on the front porch.
Which I didn't like having a porch so I knocked down the wall inbetween the front room and the porch, so it is carpeted with a window seat. and built in stand at the end of the window seat. Lots of windows! Back porch I did the same. French Doors Tho no Window Seat. Wicker Chair and table. So I can Watch the Birds.
Going to redo a Antique Bedroom Chair after the Holidays,
So it can sit next to the Daybed i have in a
Down stairs Bedroom For me to read a bedtime Story
to my grandchildren, in.
After that i plan to do an extra Bedroom upstairs For Guests. I do several things at once.
Mom says i should do just one and get it done. But i think I can do more!
After all God did give me two hands,
even if one doesn't work right cause of a stroke.

Holy MOLY! You got rid of a ton of stuff, Minnie! How does your craft room look now? I would love to see it.(Oh, I found the pics on page 5, btw.) I just painted my craft room and redecorated it a bit. I'm still not sure I like it, all my friends do but I'm thinking lime green paint wasn't the smartest decision I've ever made. It's pretty shocking.

Hi, all I have used Garden Web for years for remodeling, never thought to use it for quilting/sewing. I am widowed now, and have 2 bedrooms, one slightly larger than 11x15, serves as a sewing room/guest room. Currently, I have a duplex bed w/frame taking up lots of wall space. My family are all out-of-state and can't visit very often. Perhaps once a year single or couple friends visit. Bed is used only occasionally. I have inflatable queen and twin size mattresses (a couple of years ago, had the family down for Christmas). I'm trying to decide whether to a) lose the bed and rely on inflatables; b) trade the bed for a double or queen-size bed which would gain some wall space, or c) deal with what I have. The room will be repainted soon; there's a very pleasant view outside the window, so the sewing machine stays there. Opposite the window wall is a closet, and a small wicker vanity on a short wall. A wicker dresser (partly seen in pic) and the entry door is opposite the bed wall. I'm left handed, so it's cut, stitch, press; from left to right. I'm looking for a better table/cabinet solution for the area, but this works for now. I'd love room for a 36" cutting table.

I have a sewing/craft room set up, which I use almost every day. I can't find my camera cable right now, so I can't upload a photo, but I had a thought about your space. You really need a sewing machine space AND a table space because half of sewing is laying out the pattern, cutting, etc. I'm pretty sure I'm at my sewing table at least as much as I am at my machine itself. So, what might work really well for you is to get an old armoire from your local CL, and create something like the attached for the machine itself. Then you could position the table about a foot and a half out from the wall so that the person using it would stand between the wall and table, and could view tv. You could use the space under the table for wheeled carts which could hold storage supplies. Honestly the best storage I have in my craft room is the 8 foot long pegboard I put up. Everything hangs there: scissors, rotary cutters, rotary rulers, tape measures, etc. I can clean up in under two minutes, which helps me keep the area neat. The third element that is critical to the space is an ironing board. You could easily accomodate that by putting a fold-down board on the wall. They even have attractive cabinets for them now. What do show homes look like in your area?

I don't know who designed the houses shown above as "show homes" but Oaktown's first photo shows a house designed by Bobby McAlpine an architect with a nationwide practice known for one of a kind romantic houses inspired by old building traditions from Europe. The one posted first was inspired by English buildings of the post-medieval period with steep roof, and narrow shed dormers. This tradition was brought to America in the 17th century modifying where it was modified to fit the materials available here, substituting wood cladding for stone & half timber; slate for thatch roofing and double-hung windows for casements. Unfortunately, few examples have survived. McAlpine has a rare talent for using old ideas in new ways with good balance and scale like the architects of the early 20th century: McKim, Meade & White; Greene & Greene; Howard Van Doren Shaw and David Adler who respected and studied the buildings of Europe and Asia extensively. And they did it the hard way on foot with a sketch pad. Later builders and developers used many of these same ideas with no such talent or appreciation which is quite evident in the "show homes" posted above. Bobby McAlpine and Susan Sully wrote a book titled, "The Home Within Us: Romantic Houses, Evocative Rooms".

Mine is a BIG mess at the moment! Craft stuff kinda all over, but I put all the stuff I take out of the other rooms to decorate for Christmas in there, so it looks worse than it is.

A year ago I decided to change the name of my craft room to sewing room, and I re-did all the "furniture" things in it to reflect my interest in quilting, not that I have given up crafting! It is all multi-purpose work surfaces and storage. I did actually do some "decorating" on the walls, the only surface not completely covered with stuff. I really do have a different attitude about keeping it neat now, it seems to help me.

When we built this home three years ago, and I couldn't walk because I was waiting for new knees, I carried a Coleman chair around and directed the carpenters in how I wanted all the closets configured, and my 9' wide craft closet is just full of shelves, some moveable. Works great!

So, after I un-decorate the rest of the house I will straigthen things up and start crafting and sewing for next selling season.

It always interests me in how we all do our crafting, I pick up the best ideas here! So thank you!

I don't have a craft room. It's just boxes and boxes of unorganized stuff stuck in closets. Tonight is my last drop off of completed items that I'm selling in my craft booth. After that, I'm cleaning off the kitchen counters and putting it all back in boxes. I'll pull it out again in a month so I can start on next year's stuff.

I have enough room to walk to my chair... But if I touch one thing on the sides, the boxes start falling....LOL
I will start cleaning after Xmas.. To start all over again...

What's a craft room? We have limited amount of space so I have to hide my stuff wherever I can find room.

I mostly work at the kitchen table or on the counter top to do my crafts.

I have things stored in my toy box/coffee table. Most of my things are grouped in grocery bags...how fancy, huh? LOL I also store some other items in our half bath under the sink since not much else goes under there. My paint stuff is all in a tote that slides under my kitchen table bench. I cover the mess with curtains I made to go around the benches!

Gizmo, I loved that statement, the path to the chair. I also have a path to the dresser that has some fabric in it. The closet doors are supposed to shut?!? It's no mans land in there too.

My "craft" room also is the cats room. It has their food and their litter box, and I also have to put my plants in there over the winter. I too have a small path to the table. I put shelves in the closet this summer and put the door in the basement. There great, if I could just get to it now. There used to be a hutch in there, but I have not seen it for awhile. There are plastic bins, boxes, and grocery bags for storage. I have to climb over a baby gate to keep the dogs out. There is also about 12 different items started on the table, or around the table, or somewhere in there. I will be glad when Christmas is over so I can try to clean it. I have to move all the stuff away from the closet tonite so I can get to the wrapping paper!!!!

Mine is in the basement. And I have it just about everywhere. We got the kids a ping pong table one year for christmas. Let me tell you it's great to do crafts on. Then 2 years ago we got a pool table. I was told I "WAS NOT" to put anything on there. I've been pretty good on not putting anything on there. But, sometimes I bring my stuff upstairs to work. Then I end up taking over the kitchen.

Right now it's a mess,as at this time of the year it also becomes "wrapping central". I actually have a good size room,16x22,and it houses my sewing machines,computor,as well as my craft stuff.
I really want to redo it,but that's an over whelming task.I freak out every time i think of having to move all my stuff.Someday!!!!

Right now, I have a craft room full of craft supplies, projects started but not finished yet,projects waiting to be started and stuff to do in the distant furure. Also in there is hidden all the Christmas presents we have bought for family, my hubby and DD now living with us. There is a small path to my sewing machine and thats it! After Christmas I hope to get in there and clean up! :o)
