My slippers don't have holes!

Ok, so I made ciabatta. I made a sponge on Saturday and it rose perfectly - tripled in bulk, and I refrigerated it until today (Tuesday) and it did beautiful yeasty things. I made a lovely light sticky dough and folded it like an envelope twice and I patted it into the characteristic long envelope shape and made finger indentations. It puffed beautifully and I made them again. I baked it and they came out golden brown and they taste divine and the smell is like a bakery. Crusty on the outside and soft and delicious inside. But the interior looks like regular bread with some slightly larger than normal holes - 1/16th of an inch here and there, but mostly smaller and uniform. What causes those giant holes that you typically see? The half inch or better kind?

This is a picture of my daughter's version from a while back. Great holes! Wonder what I'm doing wrong. She's only 18 and said "I just followed the recipe". From the mouth of babes! A born baker.
