porcelain vs tumbled travertine floor tile

Please help, I'm going nuts. Originally planned on Roca Shellstone Modular BF porcelain tile for floors because it looks so Old World, it can be used continuously from the interior to exterior terraces, and its matte finish is easy to maintain. However, colors of samples that our builder obtained in advance are weirdly unexpected (muddy mushroom blotches WITHIN light-colored tiles), so quality control may be dicey. The only alternative I can think of is tumbled travertine, but apparently that tile requires filling, polishing, and considerable maintenance; I've read that sealants don't really seal against acids and grime. Will appreciate any feedback, we have to decide soon!
