RECIPE: apple dumplings with sprite

This is a winner!!!!

Apple dumplings with sprite
4 Granny Smith Apples, cut into 1/4 each, peel and core
2 cans Crescent Dinner Rolls (open and separate)
2 cups sugar
1 cup brown sugar
12 ounce can Sprite
1 1/2 sticks margarine/butter
Â This recipe will make 16 apple dumplings.
In a 9x13 baking pan, (spray with Pam)
wrap each piece of apple in roll, put into baking dish, core side down.Â
Mix sugars together and spread evenly over apples.Â Cut margarine over top, then pour sprite around the edge of baking dish,
bake at 375Â°F until nice and brown.

Friend said she added cinnamon and nutmeg.

Very good warm with Vanilla Ice Cream

Hi all! I'm reporting back having tried Linda's recipe for Apple cake but I wound up using the 1/2 cup raisins plus 1/2 Cup Craisins and about 1/4 cup dried Apricots (chopped up) and the pecans and a handful of shredded coconut, at the last minute. It was awesome! It came out more like a fruit cake, but the best part of the traditional, not so compacted and packed with so many different intense flavors. I highly recommend doing this, if you want a very Holiday-type cake but don't want to use the traditional fruit cake recipes! I think it would also make a very nice Apple-Fruit *Bread*, baked in a loaf pan or two! I loved the 'gravy' (tasted like 'Eagle Brand' condensed milk) but the next day, found I still enjoyed the cake even without the gravy and it did remind me more of a 'bread' than cake, that way! :o) Thank you, Linda, for a good recipe! I promise to try it as it was presented, after the holidays! Right now, I'm enjoying it 'tweaked'--way too much, I'm afraid!! Oh, and I used 'Gala' Apples which turned out fabulous in this recipe! I had read somewhere on the internet that they tested out as one of the better cooking apples--in the top three, in fact, and I couldn't agree more based on how this 'Apple (fruit) cake' turned out!

dumpling wrappers, potstickers, dim sum, and wontons are not synonymous. Dumpling wrappers, almost always round but occasionally square, are thicker than wonton wrappers, which are always square. potstickers are dumpling wrappers filled with a rich filling, folded over and pinched and then cooked in a very special way -- they are put onto a hot pan with a bit of oil, seared to brown and then covered in a bit of liquid to braise under a cover until the liquid is all gone and the dumplings literally "stick" to the pot. dim sum is a collective phrase for a great many "appetizer-like" foods, some of which are "dumplings" but not exactly the kind of dumplings made with dumpling wrappers. wontons refers to the thin square wrappers or to the wrapper with filling. They can be small or large and they can be boiled/steamed or deep-fried. The extra large ones are best truly steamed over gentle heat. For deep-frying, the smaller, the better. Here's my favorite "dumpling filling" recipe to put into wontons or dumpling wrappers (given to me by a little Chinese grandmother about 25 years ago in L.A.; true): DUMPLING FILLING Makes 12 to 24 1 pound ground pork -- shoulder 1/4 pound shrimp -- finely chopped 1 small bok choy -- chopped 1 egg 1 teaspoon cornstarch salt -- to taste 1/2 teaspoon sugar 2 tablespoons sesame oil 1 tablespoon water 1 teaspoon ginger root -- grated 2 stalks green onion -- chopped Chop bok choy coarsely and cook in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain by placing in cheese cloth and squeezing out all water. Chop finely. Combine pork, shrimp, egg, cornstarch, salt, sugar, sesame oil, water, and ginger. Mix well. Add bok choy and chopped green onions. Put small teaspoon-fulls into won ton wrappers or larger tablespoon-fulls into dumpling wrappers. Boil them gently in water or chicken stock until floating. I love dumplings. A must when I make chicken or beef stew. I also make a German style bread dumpling and Spaetzle another type of dumpling to serve with Goulash. Regular Dumplings 1-1/2 cups flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons shortening(butter/margarine or crisco 3/4 to 1 cup of milk Mix dry ingredients and cut in shortening. Add enough milk to make a soft wet dough. Drop by tablespoon on to the top of stew and cover and simmer on low for about 15 minutes. Southern Style Dumplings 2 cups flour 3 tablespoons butter 3/4 teaspoon salt Pinch of baking powder Milk Mix dry ingredients and cut in butter. Add enough milk to make a soft dough. Knead for a minute until smooth and let sit for 1/2 hour. Roll out dough to desired thickness. Dough should be on the thin side. Cut into 1/2 inch strips, 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Drop into boiling stew and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until noodles are cooked. Parsley Bread Dumplings ======================= 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley 2 slices white bread, quartered 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup milk 4 tablespoons butter, melted Combine parsley and bread in processor; whirl until medium Size crumbs. Add 1 1/4 cups flour, baking powder, and salt; process just until combined. Add chicken to a pot and cover with chicken broth or combination of water and broth. Add 1 garlic clove, a few sprigs of thyme and bay leaf. If using potatoes add now. Now add what ever dumpling recipe you are using and simmer until dumplings are cooked. I just copied this recipe from another thread, Glenda. I just read here that you said ginger ale would work here, I think I'm going to give it a shot the next time I have a dessert to make! Thanks.

Someone asked if you could use peaches, so here's one I found

Peach Dumplings with sprite
2 cans crescent rolls
Sliced peaches, canned or fresh (drain if using canned)
1 cup butter, melted
2 cups sugar
1 can Sprite
Cinnamon (optional)
Separate the crescent rolls. Place one peach slice on each section and roll up beginning with the wide end. Place in 9x13 pan. Take melted butter and mix in sugar. Add a small amount of cinnamon if desired. Heat in microwave for 11/2 minutes. Pour butter mixture and Sprite over rolls. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until brown. NOTE: 1 cup sugar is ample when using canned peaches

Where i live everyone uses mountain dew- i still haven't tried them but wonder if the taste would be much different

My hair dresser was telling me about an apple dumpling and Sprite recipe. Wasn't hard to find :)) Can someone tell me what the Sprite does to/for this recipe?

Farm Journal Cookbook (1972 Edition)

Pastry for 2 crust pie
4 cups grated apples
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups hot water

. Roll pastry into 14x12 rectangle. *Combine apples and cinnamon, spread over
pastry evenly; then roll up as for jelly roll (from 12" side). Slice into
(8) 1 1/2" pieces, sealing edges with toothpicks (I didn't need to use any
toothpicks), and place in 11x7x1Â½ pan, sealed side down. Bake 400 for 15
minutes. *Combine remaining indredients in 2 qt saucepan and bring to a
full boil. Pour over apple pinwheels. Return to oven and bake 15 to 20
minutes more, basting twice, until apples are tender. Makes 8 servings.

Note: I adjusted the recipe by using one cup water and one cup cream for the caramel sauce.

The sprite just adds to the flavor, blends well with the butter, sugar, etc.

You can use ginger ale as well.

Peaches vs apples, both are great.

I just eye it with the butter, and sugars, though.
