Glass Block Lights - Drill Bit ?

Hi,

I am wanting to make the Glass Block Night Lights.

What I want to do is use the clip type night light that is corded for the light source vs. the string of Christmas lights.

The nightlight bulb is 7/8". I would need the hole to be a little bigger, of course. The problem is with getting a bit.

I can't find a 1" bit - I can find 3/8" and 1/2".

How are you all doing yours?

I'm also wanting to make some blocks with the snap in bulbs. Determined I'd need a 1" bit and ordered a set from Harbor Freight that has a 1" hole saw cutter in it. I was informed this week, they'd cancelled my order and were sending me a refund, because they're "out of stock" and won't be in until Dec.16th! Really ticked me off!

If you are really in a bind, you could take the smaller drill bit , drill your hole and then reinsert the bit working the edges to make the hole bigger. May take longer but it works.

I use a glass drill bit for mine, works on everything I've tried so far. About an inch wide hole, they are available at Lowe's. A lot of women use them to drill those square glass bricks that they put white lights in, I'm told.

There are a couple places you might try. One is National Artcraft in Ohio. I believe the site is www.nationalartcraft.com or you might try Lamp Specialties in NJ. These are wholesalers and they have these items all the time. I don't remember the url for Lamp Specialties so you might try a Google. We used to buy the lights year round from these two companies. They're basically caramics suppliers but you can get a lot of other things from them too.

Hello everyone, I love these glass blocks I seen these last year a craft show. they are great gifts. this past weekend I went to a craft show and saw something different with the glass blocks they are making them as a fish bowl for those beta fish, with a bit of gravel and a plant. in the top they cut a oblong opening, and were selling them for $25. Try eBay for the bits. I just ordered a Forstner bit to drill out a candle from there. Great deals.
