Sooooo, what's everyone working on now....

Since this is a free site again (YAY!! So extremely happy to be able to post!)and there are more people, what is everyone working on?

I have been making some really cute snowballs (joint compound, styrofoam balls, glitter) Just have to say that I am becoming addicted to glitter!! Used to hate the stuff!They have such a great assortment out there now as far as color and size of the flakes! ANYWAY, I've also made a Candy Cane to hang on the front door. Made that out of painted muslin, added a grubby tag and some little pinecones. Plus I have alot of other projects that are half finished, but what crafter doesn't?LOL!! So, what are you working on?

Well, I've got alot going on right now. Muslin cinnimon buns, primative candy canes, dough ornies, 2 stained glass windows, a quilt, some pet beds for gifts, some xstitch, and some wooden gifts, candles, and a new (made by me ) outside decoration for our yard. I'll never get it done this year!!!!!!!!

Wish you guys would share some pictures of your projects. I have never seen muslin cinnimon buns or candy canes. I love primitive things.

When does everyone start fall tomato seeds? I'm going to sow some peppers, eggplants and basil, plus a few flowers. Just wondering if I should do the tomatoes or wait on them? Had a salad yesterday with lettuce, radishes, jalepenos and fresh dill, all from the garden I think the lettuce is nearly done but still not bitter or bolting! Maybe from the cooler nights and partial shade? My Japenese eggplant has over twenty fruits, some almost ready to pick. The bigger eggplant (don't know the variety) has lots of tiny fruits but they take longer to mature. TomToes planted in Feb are loaded down with fruit Marglobe and purple Russian) but the ones that were planted late are just now blossoming. Hopefully, they'll have time to set before we get hit by heat. Basil is the best I've ever grown. Chard is a monster, can't figure out what to do with it all. I'm planting okra, melons, watermelon, kabocha squash, and a zucchini this weekend. Will move my red ripper peas from their not so good spot to the new garden and build a trellis next week. Is it too late do you think, for a few Christmas Limas? Most of mine were eaten by pill worms.

just put in an agave celsii, desert milkweed and a couple of salvia greggii. I'm probably also going to move some of my potted aloe (I THINK I have about 6 little aloe ferox in pots - that's what the tag said anyway!) and some of my columnar cacti into the ground now that it's not one million degrees. I'm waiting for the arrival of my bare-root Arizona Cypress - but I think they're going into pots for the first year. I threw some collected desert marigold and globe mallow into the ground and tossed a little water at them. . . we'll see if anything happens - if nothing else, I've provided some yummy seeds for the ants. Like others on the thread, I also have to space out my plant purchases as I'd rather not have my car repo'd just because I couldn't pass up a fall plant sale! So I'm hoping to put in an Ironwood, desert willow and maybe a couple of others in December. Now if I can just get all my relatives to give me nursery gift certificates for Christmas. . . .

Not all that much of working on the native plants that I grow as well as do cultural research with (Selaginella, Lycopodium, and moss species). Got a variety of native plants in pots and some species in the landscaping in my front yard my time is currently restricted to finishing up on reroofing my home-and this is a slow paced job. My primary objective at this time is to finish up on the web journal of the Tetragonostachys section of the genus Selaginella (the species that are typified by the eastern species S. rupestris) with the last plant that I have yet to confirm an identification of though I am leaning heavily towards S. leucobryoides. These journals are to provide both information and assistance on important characteristics of the species for identification purposes. The most interesting project I have had recently is the sowing of seeds of Aquilegia mexicana, a yellow flowered columbine) and their successful germination. They have set out their first set of leaves and when much larger I will be breaking up the flat and repotting into individual pots and possibly planting into the front garden, somewhere?? Well, tropical storm Lee has passed by and this morning when I walked outside at six, I turned right back around and grabbed a jacket! It's suppoed to be down in the low fifties tonight. That is unheard of and a good 10 to 15 degrees below normal for this time of year. Not complainting, though! I spent the morning tying up tomatoes. Sometime in the night after the heavy rain and wind, my Texas Tomato cages fell over with heavily loaded bushes. There doesn't appear to be any permanent damage though. It also knocked over my heavy wrought iron arbor/bench, which I would never have thought would happen. I guess the wind got under the Purple Hyacinth Bean vines and used it as a parachute. Again, no real harm done. I was reading over on the Vegetable Forum that parts of Michigan got frost last night. Oh, my. I think I'll stay with the ferocious heat we have here in the summer in payment for summer vegetables until Thanksgiving or so. Will be spending the day tomorrow planting pansy seeds!

Well I have finished my sales for this year, so I am not currently working on anything to speak of. I made the muslin cinnamon buns last year and they were a lot of fun.I also make cinnamon clay which I make into ornies or small cutouts for my pot pourri. I have started to play around with some stitcheries but have kept those to ornaments at this time.Irene

Mostly sewing now, making things at my co-workers request. I'm off until the 28th so I hope to get my christmas presents completed. Nice to see new faces in here!

I'm mostly quilting...I just finished a table runner, need to bind a baby quilt and have 3 more in mind for Christmas...Too many ideas, not enough time...
Would love to see or hear more about the cinnamon buns....So happy to be able to post.. Dorothy

I have completed 9 tea cup bird feeders. The nice man at the home improvement store cut the PVC piping for me! I have also completed 12 dish towel angels and a scrapbook/photo calendar for my in-laws. What to do next????

Hi, You will see there is another posting here asking where to get these patterns. Try there as I got my pattern from Fiddly Cat which was the originator of all these if I am not mistaken. Basically they are made with 2- l5" strips of muslin by 3 " wide.Sew these into a tube leaving one end open and stuff lightly or you will have trouble rolling up.Sew up the open end. Gently roll up the stuffed tube into a bun shape, secure with a few stitches. Then push up the bottom in the centre to look like a cinnabun after its been cooked in the oven.Then you stain your bun with i.e. tea or coffee, vanilla and cinnamon . I use a sponge brush to brush all over.Place in low oven on towel on baking sheet.Watch carefully so it does not burn appprox 15 mins or so(keep checking) After it cools you put on the icing. You have your choice of surebonder fabric stix or Joanne's carries white fabric glue sticks . The first comes out white from the g gun and the second comes out clear and then dries white. One is shiny one is not. In any event, you drizzle the icing all over the bun letting it drip down the sides including the stitiches holding it together.I also added some cinnabun fragrance oil to the bottom of the bun and in between the rolls. Mine from last year still smells like fresh baked. Very easy to do and ever more realistic. I will try to post a link for you to see a picture.Irene p.s. I dusted the tops with a little cinnamon

Hi all. Just a lurker here. I am working on necklaces. I really love the one that I have made for myself and family loves them as well. They are rice necklaces...I put each of my children's name on a piece but for my MIL I put a name on front and back of all the grandchildren..18 of them (that's why I did front and back). Then I got some small viles off ebay and put the rice in them and fill with oil. Seal and then hang on a thin silver chain with small glass beads. I have seen them online with a kind of cheapo look, but these are much classier. I wear mine daily and MIL wears hers to church.
I will be starting Christmas gifts soon. I know I have a couple of pair of ice skates to paint scenes on and who knows what else...you all inspire me.
