craft show report 11-07 to Thanksgiving

The declining gas prices allowed us to drive a little further for some of our winter fairs.

Just checking in and saying we're gonna be at the Green Living Expo in Ventura, CA to show off our green-friendly wares.

We used Fairsandfestivals.net members calendar to plan our schedule this year and it's been great. 2009 should be even better.

Wahhhhh... I'll be a show in Santa Maria today!!! Good luck to you in youe show!!! Keeping on topic, My Freiday Farmer's Market was typical with $65 in sales. Hey, it pays for the gas for today and got an order for two more grocery cart covers for next week - yes, I got a deposit. This is the first of the actual Christmas shows. It's at a high end senior citizen home - I'm bringing lots of oldies Christmas CDs - I'm talking Rat Pack and Bing and Franky baby along with Elvis... I'll report tomorrow. Good luck to ya, sweetie and we want reports!!!

Was set up at Del Tech, its the local community college. It's a 2 days show, last night and today. Yesterday was really slow, only sold $30. But today was great. It was raining cats and dogs all day, so I guess that gave everyone a reason to go out, since they couldn't do yard work. We ended up selling $150, got 2 great leads for a show for us to do in Dec, and we were able to brainstorm a few ideas we've been kickin around. All in all it was a great show and I'm home, exhausted and sore, but happy! Hope everyone's shows this weekend are excellent!

Yes, Jodi! They do get quite healthy, and I am proud of them. To think that they made it in such flimsy nursery pots when it got that cold several times amazes me! I am such an overprotective Mom! The brownish skin layers can be a pain to remove, but I have noticed that if the wet the dead skin, you can easily wipe it off with your figures. When they are outside, I choose not to remove that old layer. First of all, it protects the newer, inside scales from sunburn. In the winter or cooler months, it is an extra layer of frost/freeze protection. I also do not cut the necks, for the very same reasons. I am attaching a link because I really don't have time to upload a separate .jpg file. This is a new bulb to me, and it is called Milady. I was in awe when it first opened because it is so different than the other pinks. Notice the broken color on one of the lower petals... I went to a craft show today too and I'll agree with Kathy, way too many of jewelry crafters. I will say a lot of the jewelry items were gorgeous but I don't wear a lot of it these days. I suppose if that's what you're after, that's good, but me, I'm looking for the homemade country/prim crafts. There were some beautiful crafts of course. I sought out this one gal who makes handmade felt ornies and I spent just under $20. I was a good girl then and handed all my cash over to my girlfriend so I couldn't spend anymore. One gal was selling decorated Xmas trees and she had sold all of them except for two. She was then taking orders. They were really nice. One was a fall tree and the others were Xmas. The painted gourds were awesome and I could have grabbed the Halloween painted one for $25 but as I said, I was a good girl and to keep me from spending way too much which can easily be done with my pocketbook. I have this craft addiction you see... and I just can't get enough of it. LOL, but then again, no laughs cause it can get me in trouble. I especially liked the holiday tablerunners, those were $25 or more. Then the hand lotions, soaps and candles were all around also. The handmade wooden sconces were nice but a little pricey if you ask me. I really need to learn how to use the scroll saw I bought, it would save so much in wood things I need for my projects. One gal whose been at this particular show before does the prim stuff and with no $$ on me, all I could do was look. I think she should sell on eBay, her stuff is that nice and I think folks were snatch it right up. I talked to her to do it and she said she's thought about it before but was afraid too. I told her if I can do it, anyone can. It is disappointing when something you labored over doesn't sell, but then again, that's what eBay is all about. Ok, I'm rattling on here, need to get some housecleaning done, or should I craft instead!!! Sal

Thanks for the report. You are so right about "unique items" selling. It always has, it always will. We've got 5 shows left for 2010, so we're busy as all get out. We're doing the last four of Castleberry's shows in Salem, NH Nov 12-14, Wilmington, MA Thanksgiving weekend, the big Hartford, CT Christmas show Dec 3-5, and back to Salem, NH the second week in Dec. We also have one more show with Country Folk Art in Albany, NY Nov 19-21. Then we're off until the last weekend in January when it starts all over again.

I did a show this weekend - Sat. only. I had a double space ($90). Sales were VERY brisk. My little money box was overflowing. It was fantastic. I couldn't wait for the hr. drive home to count my money, so I found an isolated part of the parking lot and counted up $979. I was so happy but exhausted. I didn't even have time to eat lunch it was very busy up to the very end. I love shows like that! Arlene

Thanks so much for the site. Really helps find stuff in our area. We have alot of craft shows now, even with the snow. I sent the web site to my SIL in Ca, who said there is nothing in her area.

Did my first craft show of the season today. It was at a local Retirement community. Did pretty good, lots better than last year at the same place!

Went to probably the one and only craft show for me this year as there are not many around where I live. Biggest one is $90 for a spot with vendors crammed in like sardines so it all looks like one big blur...I don't do that one.
Further North in British Columbia where I used to live there were quite a lot of craft shows and I always went to a number of them through the year and did well, could usually count on $200-$300 per show which certainly made it worthwhile to leave the house...
Here it really blows - a few small ones at schools and churches that run for 3 or 4 hours.
I went to one such show yesterday. Cost was $15 for the spot, very reasonable. Quite a few vendors, about half and half homemade and stuff like Discovery Toys, Avon and Epicure, which I always find weird.
Anyway, made a whopping $11.50 for the day, sold 1 $10 dollar item and 2 75cent items...LOL. No point in being upset about it, I don't need the money I just do it cause I like to make things. Pretty darn pathetic though and I won't go back. Probably about 50 people through the craft show in 5 hours made for a rather long day...
Bought 6 knitted dishcloths at $1 each which is a great deal for those. Also bought 2 fitted sheets for my bed that have a waterproof liner sewn onto them for $40. Might seem expensive, but since I had my Ostomy a year ago I have occasional night time dryness issues, and $40 for sheets is a lot cheaper than a new bed every few months...lol.
So all in all the day cost me money. But life's like that sometimes...
