Crafts Fairs?-little long

Hi everybody! I have so missed being able to post on here......I hope all of you and yours are doing well!

I just wanted to share some of my crafts projects and fair experiences this year so far...lol

I have had 2 shows--One at the Fraternal Order of the Elks and also the Fraternal Order of Police (since I work in Law Enforcement). I think the shows may have been a little early for people to buy Xmas crafts--but it also wasn't as bad as I expected.

I have kind of semi-retired crafting for a couple of years. I met a wonderful Man and have just been spending my time and energy on him. So, now I am back and joined shows mainly to get my name back on their lists.

The only things I actually sold this time around are:

Bagged Gag Gifts, Survival Kits and poops, encouragwment, joke and bible verse jars. People just LOVED them and SOO enjoyed standing at my display reading and reading! I must've sold over 200 of them! It was great! I also sold wearable pins that I just made out of miniature ornaments. (Not enough time to do much more), Chili Pod Angels, and the BIGGEST seller was the Silver Charmed Bookmarks! I sold them for $8.00 and sold 19 of them! WOW...

Anyway, I just wanted to share with you where I am at this point...lol....Let me know what you all are working on and if you have done shows and best sellers!

Turkey Poop! WOW I sold 36 of those for $3.00 each! Must be because it is right before Thanksgiving...lol

Hi Marci,
This so grand to be able to post again...I just completed a 2 dayer...towels with potholders sewn at the top were great sellers,angels,gag gifts,comfort bears,hug bear(have poems attached)...magnets,sea shell angels...
paperclip angels,and that is all I can think of at the moment...it was a very successful couple of days...
Poop doesn't sell...
May I ask what "silver charmed bookmarks" are?..

LOL, Printersdevil!!! Yes, you really should have a table of some sort for your celebration ;^P Your newly screened porch sounds great, though. Wish I could talk DH into screening one of ours. We don't have mosquitos here, but we do have lots of flies. I haven't heard of any Cinco celebrations being cancelled around here . . . yet. No Swine Flu cases reported in the area so far. DH is a family practice doc and came home exhausted last night from so many of his patients showing up with worry-produced "maybe" symptoms. Lots of calls, too. No real cases so far, though. His PA is on vacation for two weeks, so it's a bad time for this thing to rear it's ugly head. DH is getting home most nights now at 8PM because of all this. I'll be anxious to see your Cinco de Mayo table. I do have a lot of things I can use, but don't expect anything too elaborate; I'm still a novice at tablescaping. Lynn

Jewelry seems to have over-run the craft shows. As well as the order it ready made and sit and sell booths. Good handmade crafts are getting fewer all the time. My friend has been making bowl mitts and has been doing very well. Couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was when she showed me. It is simply a square design, made with 100% cotton and microwaveable batting, like used for potato bags, She puts 4 darts about half up between corners making the square form a cup. The bigger the square the bigger the bowl can be that fits. Simply put it under the bowl before putting it in the microwave and it has it's own pot holder wrapped around it to get it out of the micro and can be left on to protect the surface you sit the hot bowl on. It is a very clever idea and since she has started demonstrating so to speak at her shows her sales has really picked up. just sitting on the table a person doesn't know what it is. I think she sells them for about $5 to $8 depending on the size. Hope this idea helps. I can try to post a pic if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Thanks for the report. You are so right about "unique items" selling. It always has, it always will. We've got 5 shows left for 2010, so we're busy as all get out. We're doing the last four of Castleberry's shows in Salem, NH Nov 12-14, Wilmington, MA Thanksgiving weekend, the big Hartford, CT Christmas show Dec 3-5, and back to Salem, NH the second week in Dec. We also have one more show with Country Folk Art in Albany, NY Nov 19-21. Then we're off until the last weekend in January when it starts all over again.

My big sellers are survival kits. I sew my bags out of cotton material scraps. Right now I should be sewing more bags to pack instead of checking in here. However, I like to see this board moving along so I added my coments.

Dec 3rd is my last craft fair of the season - (maybe of my life -- LOL --I'm getting too old for this stuff !) Good luck on yuor future fairs !

That's great Valerie...sounds like you are having great sales too! Hats off to you!...Now for a question...lol...comfort bears? and hug bears? I make some I think they may be the same...will you share a description or poem...please...

Arnl---survival kits are great! and what a great idea about the fabric bags!

Minnie and Gluecille---Believe it or not I don't even know how to use my digital camera...lol...I just got it and still trying to figure out how to download pics...but hopefully soon I will figure it out, then I'll share pics! But any descriptions or poems anyone needs I'd be more than happy to share....

Ok....Silver Bookmarks:
You'd be amazed how easy these are!
they have the silver bookmarks at Hobby Lobby...they are $2.99--but this weekend they had all there jewelry findings and supplies at 50% off! they have a small beading piece at the end and I bought little silver charms ($.68 each but then 50% off!) and attached them to the end....WOW people just loved them!
How I wish I could show you pictures!
I have 40 people over to my house for Thanksgiving, so needless to say, I may not have time to work with the camera very much before that....but just maybe...maybe...I can!

Toomuchglass---Awwwwwww...you're NEVER too old for this stuff! Keep your chin up and keep crafting my friend! I always say I don't know if I could ever stop from crafting---it's just in my heart and always on my mind! I'm starting to think it's a sickness! LOL every little item I see anywhere, my mind starts wondering what I can make out of it! LOL
I hope you all have success on your shows also.....any coming up???

I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my constant "Oh my God, don't throw that out", and "You know, if you just cut that and glued this you could make a wonderful...." -- my friends just look at me and roll their eyes...lol.
Just finished a two day show myself and as always it was wonderful. It is one that people where I live line up to get in to and come prepared to buy. I made craft kits this year and they sold very well. Very labor intensive project that has been rolling around in my head for a couple of years; decided this was the year to tackle it. I wouldn't do it again, but I did have great sales with them.
Two more shows for me, one is an invitation only and no charge for the table, gotta love that!
Sadly, I think I should seek professional help as I am already tossing ideas around for next year...can someone please make it stop...

Yeah my family and friends just kinda think I need help...lol
My BF always says...is there anything you cant make something out of....and of course my answer NO WAY! Everything has a use...lol
HEY No charge for a table is the best!
I have another show on Sunday at a church here--tables are $25.00--but there are 80 vendors :-O--but I always do real well there....so we'll see!
And I guess we BOTH are in the NExt Year mode too! lol

Hi qtiemom,
Here are the poems I use...I cut out a small fleece blanket and glue it under the arm of the bear..(either bought or made)I tie the poem arounfd the neck of the bear...Then I put the bear inside a cellaphane bag..staple a topper on and there you are...

Comfort Bear
I am not a very fancy bear
I'm plain and rather small
Even so, someone who likes you
Said that I should come to call.
Hide me under your pillow
Or set me on a nearby shelf,
And when you feel discouraged
I will do my best to help.
I brought my favorite blanket
That I snuggle when I'm sad,
It's a present from my Granny,
Made for days when things seem bad.
My Granny always told me,
"Life is like this patchwork quilt.
Just give Jesus all the pieces
And He'll make a pretty quilt"
Sometimes I don't see the pattern
Sometimes He seems far away,
Then I clutch my favorite blanket

Though I don't have all the answers,

My hubby tells everyone I have a serious disease that there is no cure for! Its called being a "Craftaholic"! :o)Don't feel bad, I have ideas already for next year too and haven't even done my last show yet, (next Sat.)

Valerie I am in New Mexico...we had about an inch of snow on Saturday night. But its colder this year so far compared to last year! It was 17 at 5 am this morning! Brrrrrrrrr
But still not as cold as you guys!
I had another show this weekend...but I goofed and posted it on another post...LOL
Can you tell I am tired from the weekend? LOL
