42' Built in Fridge Questions
Comments (1)I'll be interested in the responses. I'm in the same boat you are. I looked at the Thermador SbS yesterday and for the money, the inside plastic seemed kind of cheap. I wasn't impressed. Fell in love with the Sub Zero but that's not going to happen. So, I'm onto the Monogram or Profile or KA now. The guy at the showroom showed me the hinges on a non built-in model. You can see how the doors would need some extra clearance to open properly. The built-ins just look better IMHO but it's a delicate balance between asthetics and cost. I'm struggling with this....See MoreVentilation: 36' vs 42' for 36' range top
Comments (13)We have a 42" wide & 24" deep hood mounted 30" above our 36" cooktop. We're a tall family...ranging from 5'10" to 6'6" and still growing! So far, the only time anyone has hit their head on the hood is when my DH stuck his head up into it to check out the "squirrel cages" and didn't bring his head down far enough when he exited...he hit the back of his head! I don't think you should worry too much about head-hitting. Mounting your hood within the manufacturer's recommendations is more important. As to 1200 cfm, it sounds like you won't need makeup air b/c of the "California Cooler" ventilation. What some people don't understand is that the higher cfms have many pros: If needed, you have the higher power to remove anything from the kitchen (including smoke from burnt toast! yes, experience!) You will be able to run your hood on a lower speed more often and the fan will be quieter running on low or medium than on high. With lower cfm hoods, you may have to run your hood on high a lot more and the fan is generally louder than a higher-cfm's fan running at a lower speed w/equivalent cfms. The more bends you have to make in a duct run, the lower the actual cfms are. So, if you start out w/low cfms, any bends (or excessive distance) will lower the actual cfms even more....See More36 or 42" SxS Fridge/freezer with ice dispenser
Comments (3)The 42" SxS JA,Thermador, and KA are all made by Whirlpool and are essentially the same. The JA used to have exclusive use of the variable speed compressor but I believe that is no longer the case. The Bosch freestanding fridges are generally considered to have poor icemaking capacity. The freestanding Bosch is not made by nor engineered by Bosch. It is made by Daewoo in Mexico. The freestanding KA is considered to have a very large capacity to make ice even if the quality of ice and storage area for the ice is not great. The Bosch built-ins and the Thermador built-ins other than SxS are engineered in Germany by Bosch but built in Turkey in a Bosch owned plant. The SubZero's(made in Wisconsin) dispenser is genrally considered to be very problematic. It is very picky about the water pressure and water quality that is fed to the icemaker. IMO nothing beats SubZero and Liebherr for storing veggies longterm but Liebherr does not offer an ice dispenser. If you require large amounts of ice might a seperate built-in ice-maker be an option? Then you could pick the fridge independent of the ice-making/dispensing consideration and have more room to store veggies and meat....See MoreAnyone with the Kitchenaid 42'' built-in french door fridge?
Comments (16)Hi there helou! We have the 42" built in version of the KA side by side and have been using it since November. We were lucky to get the floor model for half price at a local sale so we bought it months before the remodel. We have not experienced any of the problems that soigne mentions. Ours has a "max cool" button that if you load it up with a bunch of warm items or leave it open for a while, you just touch the button and away it goes - no problem bringing it back to cool quickly. We love the operation of the drawers - much smoother than others we tried and it seems to keep our food very well. I was looking at the french door model, but the 42" can fit a full size cookie/catering tray in the frig side -no problem, that was my main goal and we saved $4,000 buying it on sale. Plus, after realizing I could fit such large size items in this frig, I preferred not bending over to get stuff out of the freezer all the time....See Moredeeageaux
