Have you a 'Boutique Doctor?

My husband just had to change to a new family doctor because the one he has had for at least 10 years has become a "Boutique Doctor"! He has decided to see 'only' 400 patients and to become(or to continue to be) one of his patients, you must pay $1500 per year! This is just for the priviledge of having him as your Dr. You still must have insurance, copays, etc. just as you would normally. He is not a specialist so any tests, etc. would be handled outside . What do you get for the $1,500, you ask? According to him, you get more of his time (up to an hour if needed) so he can get to know you personally! Really? Who wants to spend an hour with your Dr. unless it is necessary?

When I first heard about this, I told my husband there must be some other benefits, but no. At my husband's final visit (by the way, he only goes twice a year), the Dr. got really upset because DH decided NOT to take him up on his new plan and asked for his records to be transferred to my Dr.'s office. He also would not fill DH's prescriptions for 90 days as he had in the past.

Today, DH and I went in to his new Dr. office for yearly checkup and guess what? No records had been sent! Guess his old Dr. has forgotten all about the 10 years DH was his patient!
