This post is bringing up many wonderful memories. When I was a kid, our family played Yahtzee just about every night when we were on summer vacation (it was one of the few things that brought us together.) My sister and I would quietly stay up well after bedtime to have "Spit"(the card game) tournaments (it was also a great procrastination tool to keep us from homework--which also worked in college.) Our family also played Hearts, Spades, Sorry, Big Boggle (I can no longer find this version of Boggle) and Risk (there were always a lot of hurt feelings with this game.) When I was 16 I went on a bike trip across Maine with two older sisters--we brought a word dice game called Perquacky and played it in the camping area rest rooms (where there was light) at night (I think we only played if there was some sort of vanity shelf or large sink area. I hope we didn't sit on the floor.) Many of us got together this summer for vacation and we had fun with Texas Hold 'Em. My parents and a couple of my sisters really enjoy(ed) bridge. The games I've enjoyed playing with my kids are Scrabble, Cribbage (a favorite for my daughter and I when we are on vacation--we keep score with pencil and paper rather than a board), Sequence, Canasta, Chutes and Ladders, Life, Careers, Battle Ship, Rack-O and some lesser known games. Several of these come in small boxes and use special cards: Quiddler, Rat-a-tat-cat, Frog Juice, and for small kids Panda-momium and Hiss. We were/are particularly fond of Rat-a-tat cat and Frog Juice. Blink is also supposed to be very good. A game my teenage daughter and I got hooked on for a while is Fluxx--which is a card game with a special pack of cards. The rules of the game continually change depending on the card you play. It is great fun. We wore through a couple of decks. Mary 228: Harry's Hat game sounds like it would be lots of fun. Thanks for the chance to reminisce.

why was there a limit of 5 words put on this anyway So the game would go faster and people wouldn't end up skipping posts because it was taking them so long thinking of words. Plus... I just like to see who can follow the rules. LOTS of rebels here at the KT! lol

Thank you all so much........MOST everything I do is NOT thought-out....I never know how something will end till it's done..........I can't help it. I've never been organized, only at my real job where it is a must. I have been in a funk for a bit, not inspired.....thought I might be through with mosaicing because I was not inspired to do a dang thing.......but finally the juices started flowing again...........this piece took me over a week..it's so simple and I could have gotten it done sooner..but, stopping and starting, working, domestic crap, happily entertaining my grandson, etc...too tired to work at night, etc. and always scrounging to find "the next thing " to slap on this.....if I was organized and planned out...hmmmmm.....anyway..this is on a metal piece that I bought at Hobby Lobby! On sale......it might go into the gallery that I take things periodically...pricing is hard for me..I do not know how to price anything...............but I would be happy keeping this too....as you can see, enough STUFF is never enough Stuff...for me...........I sincerely appreciate all of your kind compliments.....it also helps pushing me out of the dark hole I was in!

Three live hot wires just sitting inside walls was our most exciting find in my last house. One was right below where they took out (and did not replace) a header that was under where two different roofs met. It tended to leak in that area, too. In the farmhouse where I lived as a child we used to find cool things. Out in the pump house, a hole in the wall exposed a wooden butter ladle. And one day someone picked up the wooden thing we used as a step up into the old apple tree to discover that it was a butter press. It would be used like a cookie-cutter on a large, semi-hard slab of butter to cut out a 4 or 5 inch circle, then you pressed the plunger down to impress the butter with a 3D flower pattern. The exploration of my 1955 house in Baton Rouge, LA showed us that previous owners (concentration camp survivors) had created a space the size of a small closet that you could only enter from the attic. There was a ladder going down and a cot inside. From inside the living space, you did not really miss the space much. It was where the living room, den, and kitchen came together. They had a desk recessed into the wall in the den. But what they had really done was to build a new wall in the den, cutting off 4 ft of the room on one end, and recessed the desk into one end of that wall. Because the wall ended right where the entry into the kitchen was, on one end, and where the entry into the bedroom hallway was on the other end, it did not occur to you that the room used to be longer. The living room was on the other side of the desk wall, and for some reason, it just was not obvious that the space next to the recessed desk was missing from the floor plan as you walked around in the house. That room already had a nice closet on a different wall.
